2 Attendance November 10-11: 1,025 persons Stewardship November $13,186 Fiscal year-to-date: $324,693 Prior fiscal year-to-date: $295,586 After the gifts have been prepared and placed on the altar, and after they have been incensed, the priest turns to the servers. The serves are holding a pitcher of water, a bowl and a towel to wash the priest's hands. The priest says a prayer saying, "Lord, wash me from my iniquities and cleanse me from my sin." This gesture and prayer was and is both significant and practical. The washing takes place immediately before the priest touches the host to begin the consecration: practically his hands need to be clean. The words of the prayer further signify the importance that the priest be purified of sin before he speaks the words of Christ: This is my Body, this is my Blood, during the consecration. This action and request has been considered by some to be an empty gesture, However, if the significance of what is about to take place is really understood it is in perfect harmony with the liturgy. Luke Spehar in Concert Luke Spehar, a nationally known Catholic singer/ songwriter and recording artist who has toured with Grammy-Winner Ben Harper, will be at St Edward's parish on Dec 8th. He will be performing an Advent concert beginning at 7pm. Born and raised in Minnesota, Spehar's music reflects the elegant and thoughtful nature of the Midwest. All are welcome, free of charge! St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Pastoral Message Dear Parishioners, I have some important news to begin this letter. As some of you may already know, Carol Frahm, who has worked for the last five and a half years in the office of St. Mary's, will be retiring on January 31st, She has been working diligent at the parish since July of Officially, she worked under the title 'The Director of Parish Activities', but in reality, her role has looked more like a business manager. Please be sure if you see her in the next few months to wish her well. We can only hope to find someone with such devotion to the parish to replace her. This means also that we will need to find someone to take care of her responsibilities. We are now actively searching for a business manager for St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish. If you know of anyone or you yourself may be interested in this position, please contact the office. We are working out the details of this position and will need to determine whether this position will be fulltime or part-time. A full description of duties and necessary skills will be posted by December 1. Also, please welcome Monsignor John Dewane this weekend. He has been a regular substitute for us at the parish. I am out of town for the opening weekend of deer season. I don't often have the occasion to be with family during the year so I try to take the opportunity to see as many of them as I can at once. Opening weekend of deer season offers me one of those chances during the year. I do cover a hunters Mass on Saturday night for all the people coming out of the woods after opening day. So, although I will be away from St. Mary s, I will have Mass with another group of people in Pickerel, WI. See you next weekend after Thanksgiving and have a wonderful holiday. Please pray for the safety of all those heading to the outdoors this weekend. Prayer for Hunters- Lord, I thank You for the opportunity we are given to enjoy the beauty of nature during this season. I thank You for the time alone to think and reflect on life. I thank You for the time with hunting friends, enjoying good fellowship, good stories, meals and drinks. Thank You for the beauty seen during the hunt and for the game taken and shared. I thank You especially for a safe hunt for myself and for all the hunters who share the field. Parish Life Thanksgiving Day Mass Thursday, Nov. 22 9:00 am Thanksgiving Office Hours The parish, faith formation and school offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23. There will be NO 8:10AM MASS ON FRIDAY NOVEMBER 23rd. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, Nov. 26. New phone numbers for St. Mary staff On Mon, Nov. 12th the phone service for St. Mary s transitioned to all digital service. This change allows each staff person to have an individual phone number. Knights pancake breakfast to benefit students trip The Immaculate Mary Council of the Knights of Columbus will host a Pancake Breakfast Sunday, November 25th in the gym. The Knights will serve Buttermilk, Blueberry and Potato pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs and all the fixings! Breakfast will be served from 9 am to Noon. A free will offering can be made. All proceeds will benefit the St. Mary School students participating in the trip to Washington. D.C. next March. Bishop offers written responses to listening session questions Bishop David Ricken is sharing written responses to questions that he received during the listening sessions about the sexual abuse crisis conducted throughout the diocese earlier this fall. These written responses have been published in the diocesan newspaper, The Compass and the three-part series is available for review at Pick up your Christmas greenery next weekend If you ordered wreaths or other Christmas greenery through the Baumgart Family, please make time to pick them up before or after the weekend Masses on Saturday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 25. 4 School News Fourth Grade Science Students were challenged to use their problem solving skills to engineer a free-standing structure using only candy corn. They thought of their concept for building with candy corn, tried it, and had to change strategies as they found out if their ideas would work or not. Non-traditional building materials make for a great STEM challenge! Faith Formation Youth / Children 4 St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Greenville, WI 2nd Grade Sacraments Parent Meeting Reconciliation and Eucharist There will be an information meeting for parents only, on Wednesday, November 28th. FF children still have class that week. The dates of the sacramental events will be available at the meeting. There are two sessions to choose from: 4:30 or 6:00. These meetings are during Faith Formation class time which makes it easier for you to attend. It is required that at least one parent or guardian attend the meeting to receive the necessary workbooks and materials pertaining to the schedule for the rest of the year. Registration is also required for these sacraments. This form will be available at the meeting as well. 7 Community News 'Waiting in Hope' retreat for women Advent is a time of preparation. To help women prepare for the season, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross are offering an Advent Day of Reflection on Dec. 1. During "Waiting in Hope: Embracing the Unexpected," attendees will find inspiration from the lives of Mary and the women in the genealogy of Jesus. How did they wait? How did they prepare? How will you? St. Francis Convent is at 3110 Nicolet Drive in Green Bay. While the event is free, registration is required as space is limited. To register visit Lunch will be served. Holiday Craft/Gift Fair The 2018 annual Holiday Craft/Gift Fair, sponsored by Sacred Heart Church in Manawa, will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 9am to 3pm at Little Wolf High School, 515 E Fourth St., Manawa.
