LNS, a brief history... The London Nautical School was formed as a direct consequence of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912.

2 LNS, a brief history... The London Nautical School was formed as a direct consequence of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in The board of trade enquiry recommended the necessity of introducing several nautical training schools to improve seamanship. The London Nautical School is the only one of those training schools that remains with a nautical and maritime ethos. The original location was in Rotherhithe as an annex of the Rotherhithe New Road School in 1915 led by the then Headmaster Commander Archibald Walter Buckle (Royal Navy) who was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for bravery in World War One. In 1937 the school gained its own site in Silwood Street Surry Quays, and became known as The London Nautical School. In 1965 we moved to Broadwall, Waterloo, and then to our present location in Stamford Street, Waterloo. In 1987, the ILEA proposed the amalgamation of the school with two other local schools. This led to a successful campaign to achieve independence through Grant Maintained Status and LNS was one of the first schools to become grant maintained in The school became a Sports College in 2003 enabling us to develop our strong sporting, nautical, and maritime curriculums.
