Welcome to the TRINITARIAN CONGREGATIONAL PARISH OF CASTINE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST Castine, Maine July 17, 2016
Order of Worship TRINITARIAN CONGREGATIONAL PARISH OF CASTINE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST Castine, Maine Proper 11 July 17, 2016 Pastor: Church Musician: Deacon: Lector: Ministers: All Members 9:30 am Rev. Tim Hall Paul Dickson Dianne Yates Paula Dunfee GATHERING AS A COMMUNITY OF FAITH We welcome you to worship in this special place, and hope that you feel free to greet your friends and neighbors as you arrive. Please let the playing of the organ prelude signal a settling time of quiet and meditation as we prepare ourselves for the Word of God. PRELUDE Introductory Voluntary Dance of the Blessed Spirits GREETINGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS INTERLUDE/ACOLYTE C.W. von Gluck *CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsively) Come and worship! Be still and aware of God s presence within and around you. Come and worship! Be still and know the presence of the Triune God, the Father to whom we come, the Son through whom we come, the Spirit by whom we come. 2
Hear God s word: Be STILL and know that I am God. *OPENING HYMN Our God, Our Help in Ages Past P 1 *PRAYER OF INVOCATION (Unison) We gather together today, O God, to seek your face. To feel your love. To know your Word. Fill us, we pray, with your Spirit. Touch us with your presence. Hear us in your mercy. Love us with your grace. Challenge us with the love you feel for all of your creation, and form us to be a part of that love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. A TIME WITH ALL GOD S CHILDREN PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) Almighty God, Spirit of purity and grace, hear our confession and have mercy on us: for those times when we have refused or ignored your call to us; for the promises that we have made and set aside; for all the excuses we have used to hide from the true cost of discipleship in your name. Wash us now, in your grace, as we hold our shortcomings up for your divine forgiveness. A moment for silent prayer ASSURANCE OF PARDON *GLORIA PATRI (Unison) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. 3

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Bruckner Notes: (NC) New Century Hymnal (black) (P) Pilgrim Hymnal (blue) (R) Pew Bible, Revised Standard Version (N) Pew Bible, New Revised Standard Version *All who are able, please stand Psalm 52 Why do you boast, O mighty one, of mischief done against the godly? All day long you are plotting destruction. Your tongue is like a sharp razor, you worker of treachery. You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking the truth. You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue. But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. The righteous will see, and fear, and will laugh at the evildoer, saying, See the one who would not take refuge in God. but trusted in abundant riches, and sought refuge in wealth! But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. 6
I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. I will thank you forever, because of what you have done. In the presence of the faithful I will proclaim your name, for it is good. Announcements Ministry of Feeding Hunger knows no season, and despite the warm weather and relaxing times, our ministry of feeding continues. And so we ask that when you head to the market for groceries and such, please consider shopping for a few extra items of non-perishable foods for those who live with the very real stress of food insecurity. Then drop by the church or Emerson Hall, and with a prayer of hope, drop those items into our collection baskets. Each month we distribute the food and personal items we collect to food pantries in Blue Hill and Orland. With your love, you can make a difference in the lives of local families. Thank you for your prayerful support of our efforts to end hunger, one meal at a time. On the Prayer List In the work of our church, we continue to pray for the sick and afflicted in our congregation and throughout our community: Lloyd Snapp, Monte Nitzkowski, Cyndy Willis, Mimi Dickson. 7
Be sure to check out our Continuing Prayers list in the church vestry for the names of friends and members needing long-term care, prayer, and support.
