3 Restorative Nurse Training Completed! 3 Two certified nursing assistants, LaTasha Davis and Belinda Howard, completed spring semester training to become a senior or restorative CNA. The classes augmented their current skills, culminating in graduation exercises April 20th, The students studied the following topics in depth: body mechanics and transfers; range of motion and ambulation; contractures and splinting; hip fracture protocols; rehabilitative dining and adaptive feeding equipment; and bed and wheelchair positioning. These topics were presented by Laurie Cordaro, OTR/L and Dr. Everald Clarke, PT, DPT. Congratulations to LaTasha Davis, CNA and Belinda Howard, CNA on their completed training. They are on the job every day, competently and compassionately working to enhance the lives of our veterans here at the Blue Goose! -Laurie Cordaro Pet Therapy and Usher Board Bingo

8 Chaplain s Corner 8 Patience July is here and so too the memories of my many summers spent in and on Michigan waterways and lakes. As a boy, my family was heavily into boating and water sports. It seemed that nearly every weekend we were on the boat to either waterski, to rendezvous at the island with friends and family, or to fish with my father. Fishing was the least favorite of these summertime activities for me. I just didn t have the patience to sit and wait for the fish to take my bait and hook. I m quite sure that my fidgeting and constant checking of my bait rig and talking, drove my father nuts. His advice was to be at peace and to just be. To just be was difficult for this young boy. I had to be doing something at all times to keep me interested. This is not a very conducive trait for a fresh water angler. I didn t really appreciate the many hours spent fishing with my father until I grew to adulthood and took up salt water fishing in Florida. The fish were more aggressive feeders and as a result, it was more exciting for me than freshwater fishing. I never knew what fish would be produced after feeling that tug on the line when the fish took the bait. Or so I thought It wasn t until my sons were old enough to share in this passion of mine that I came to realize that they too were saying and doing as I did at a similar age. They too fidgeted, talked non-stop, and would constantly check their bait to see if it was still there. I found myself telling my sons to be at peace and to just be. Like father, like son I now realize the only difference between the fishing experiences of my childhood and adulthood was that I had changed. I learned how to be at peace, how to be patient, and how to just BE. When able to do so, I discovered that there was so much more to experience and see around me; things that fed my spirit and my soul. Things like feeling the sun and wind on my face, noticing the patterns of the water and the waves, seeing wildlife (schools of fish, shore birds, turtles, etc.), and watching the boat traffic around me. The very activity of fishing facilitated the experiencing of the things that nurture my spirit. This past month was my last month of seminary studies. Done (for now) is all the reading, lectures, discussions and debates regarding expression and understanding of God. So much time and energy spent trying to figure out how God works and why God does what he does. Time well spent. But, was this time which we seminarians devoted, like that of when I was as a boy fishing with his father? Should more time have been devoted to peace and just being? To truly know God, we need to be at peace and to just be in God s presence. We begin to know God by experiencing God. Perhaps now, the focus can become the here and the now of God rather than the why and how of God. May the peace of God be amongst us and may we learn to be patient and just BE with God. -Chaplain Larry Jesion
