5 I found this weekend to be extremely fun, yet incredibly insightful. I am so glad to be a part of the first group to do such an activity.

6 Insightful Meaningful, purposeful it s not like just seeing pictures and hearing about them. Actual experience connects and sticks in the mind and out of that get new perspectives and respect.

12 Janet Zisk This is the most FUN I ve had since I came to Kamehameha!

13 I was able to learn about the very beginning of Kamehameha Schools (topographically) and see how it all looked when we first built this campus.

14 In the 24 hours that I spent with you guys this weekend, I had a blast. I think it was very cool that since we were a small group and all stayed in the same house, we all kind of developed a bond that we didn t have before, beyond just saying hi in the halls at school. This weekend gave us all the opportunity to get to know each other more intimately.

15 For the past three years that I have been attending this school, I never really thought about the forest behind the school. If anything, I just thought they were a bunch of trees.

17 Don Harvey Students weren t just taking photos. They were experiencing nature and moving with what s been revealed to them.

20 Watch your head! Watch your head!

21 To learn that there are ancient rock walls, and other rock structures back there was a great shock to me. No one had ever even mentioned it before. Now, I don t just see a pile of rocks as a pile of rocks they are there for a reason, because someone put them there and they hold significance to our culture.

22 This is different from what I usually do. I go home, clean the house, watch the kids and feed them. Didn t even know they existed. So much the school does not use.

23 I am grateful for the fact that this was also a hands-on activity, instead of one of those things where you watch slide shows and take notes. It was fun to get out there and hike and actually see a few of the structures that our ancestors built.

24 As I stood before the rock walls in the forest, I was in awe, thinking about the fact that hundreds of years ago, our people actually stood where I was standing, and they touched the rocks that I got to touch, and they walked through the same forest that I did. It was like a much-needed connection was made.

25 It is one thing to read about plants in a book with pictures, but it is a totally different thing to actually see everything in their niche, working together.

26 Nothing modern around felt nice to do that get away from chaotic life didn t feel like we were on campus. There are classes that talk about nature, but they have nothing to do with being with nature.

30 When the haumäna returned from the hike, they held very different energy - grounded and connected within.. This is the real gift of nature.
