2 I have a good life. I am really really happy I ve got a family. My family is a big family of 6 and I am the second oldest. My Dad is a big strong guy and he sometimes is playful, although he does work on his computer a lot. And then it goes to my Mom. She is pretty playful and I m thinking that she is actually kind of the most playful parent I ve ever had. I have an older sister named Maggie. She actually sometimes encourages me. In my story, you ll find out that she has encouraged me ever since I was little. When I was born, I got a lot of attention. And then my little sister Violet came and I lost a lot of the attention. I felt like I got kicked out of the family and then my big sister Maggie, she helped me have courage by telling me that I wasn t alone. She said that when I was born, she lost attention too and that it s ok to feel like you re not having that much attention because now we have a new sister that we get to be friends with. We decided that we would work together to help our Mom and Dad with my little sister. I helped by playing with her and sometimes my Mom even let me feed her. When I fed her, she laughed and it was funny. I got some of my attention back! When Violet was old enough to walk, my Mom said, How would it be if you got a little brother? I said, It would be great! I didn t want to be the only boy anymore, besides my Dad. My little brother s name was Abe. He came from Ethiopia. The first time we ever got pictures of the kids in Ethiopia, we were looking through them on my Mom s computer. As soon as it came to Abe s picture, I said, That s him! That s my little brother. But Mom told me we didn t get to pick which kid would be our brother, we would just have to wait our turn and see which kid could be adopted first because they needed lots of papers. Do you know why I said he was my brother? Because I felt like something came through me when I saw his picture. I jumped with glee the day my Mom told me that

3 Abe WAS going to be my little brother. I was right! We prayed for him a lot and had to wait a long time before we could bring him home. We would get new pictures of him every once in awhile and would see him changing. Mom cried a lot because she wanted him home. We would pray every single day that it would happen. Then my Mom left to Ethiopia to bring him home. When I feel like I m going to go down and have a sad reaction, I think my Mom is there to help me, no matter how hard it is. I was pretty sad when she left, I cried almost every night waiting for her to come home and I actually felt like God was telling me something that she would come back safe and she would bring back a little brother with a good heart. We thought they were coming home on a Sunday, but on Friday, we got a message from my Mom that she would be home a day sooner! I was really glad and my Dad took a video of my sisters and me dancing and jumping up and down. Finally it was time to go to the airport. I felt really glad because since my Mom was coming home a day earlier, that just surprised me and it really made me concerned about something. I was concerned about having a little brother. I was worried that they wouldn t come back safe or that maybe I would feel like I lost attention again. We had a bunch of our friends and family at the airport waiting for them to get here. I started to ask Dad, Why are all the people holding signs? And then my Dad said, They are happy because the people they love are coming home. We have waited a long time for this day and people are happy! The second I saw my Mom, I ran up the stairs to see her, even though someone told me later it s against the rules to run up those stairs, I just couldn t help it. When I saw my little brother for the first time, I found out it was actually a pretty good deal. He looked sort of the same as he had looked in the pictures. When I first saw him, I tried to hug him but he just turned his head. It made me feel

4 kinda sad, but he ended up being pretty loving to me. From that day forward, I knew that I d have a little brother for life, and whenever I felt lonely, he d be there. I thought it was GREAT to have a little brother now. But, he didn t really like me at first. Whenever I tried to play with him, he would make a mad face at me but I would just laugh and keep doing it. I played with him a lot, and he actually started to like me. Now, he is my little brother and he just loves me! Since my family of 6 has a full family now, I m actually glad that I have a little brother, but sometimes I m mean to him. Other times, I love having him around. Now I m pretty sure that all the kids get the same amount of attention in my house as me. Now I m 8, and I m pretty sure that I got more things and I m actually grateful about my family and how it s turning out to be so great. I play with my sisters and my brother a lot. I ve learned a lot from having a big family. It s pretty fun. The hard part is my brothers and sisters sometimes try to get me in trouble and I don t like that. Sometimes my brother even throws stuff at me and it s hard for me and making me feel like I m not a good brother. But when I know my Mom tells me I m a good brother, I know that I can gain my confidence back. Having a big family is really good and I m glad that I actually get a family. If I was homeless, I wouldn t feel as loved as I do now. Now everything is happy for me. When I m doing things like having fun, I know that my parents will support me. I want to be a scientist when I grow up because it seems fun and I also want to make my dream come true to make Pokemon come to life. If you know about Pokemon, you ll know what I mean. They don t exist in real life now, but it is just a matter of time before I can make Pokemon come to life. When my sister makes fun of me for it, I don t let it

5 stop me. How am I not supposed to do what my dream says? It would be better than just standing around. I also want to make inventions like a robot who fights wars. My big sister Maggie wants to teach sign language to kids who are deaf when she grows up. I m saying, I think that d be really great for your life Maggie. I know you re really good at it, so why not? My little sister Violet wants to be a dentist, which I don t really know about that, but I m sure she can follow her dream, just like me. It wouldn t be that fair if only I followed my dream. Abe wants to be a scientist just like me when he grows up. I m glad my parents had 4 kids because my brother and sisters are a lot of fun to play with. Mom says she hopes we ll always be good friends.
