1 Lesson One Your Heart as Mission Control: Master Electromagnetic Center and Source For All Bodily Circuits In this lesson, Dr. Northrup discusses the first spiral from the heart to the solar plexus and then to the throat and how this affects the organs of those areas. She will elucidate why the heart is the true master gland of the body, and why matters of the heart always trump everything else. The 4th Chakra: The Heart Center The 4th chakra is related to your capacity to feel, to express your emotions, and to participate in true partnerships. It governs the lungs, blood vessels, shoulders, ribs, breasts, diaphragm, upper esophagus and at the center of it all the heart. The high traits of the 4th chakra are: Wholehearted living. Willingness to speak from your heart. Caring passionately with your whole heart. Ability to offer wholeheartedly and also accept graciously. The low traits of the 4th chakra include: Chronic resentment, sadness or grief. A miserly approach to life. Over giving. Inability to receive. 1

2 Your Heart as Mission Control Your heart is the true master gland of your body, controlling all the others. Your heart (and cardiovascular system) is the master electromagnetic center and source for all other bodily circuits. The electromagnetic field of your heart is over 1,000 times larger than the electromagnetic field of your brain. No matter what you believe or have been taught to think, it is your heart what you deeply feel that matters most. No matter how logically your brain interprets a situation, your heart s choices and desires trump everything else. Brene Brown, the famous shame researcher, finds that those she calls wholehearted are shame resilient. They live courageously. The word courage comes from the Latin word for heart. To face life fearlessly with your whole heart is to live courageously. Examples in our cultural vernacular include sayings like: Her heart wasn t in it She died of a broken heart She has a heart as big as Texas Her sentiments were truly heart-felt and moved everyone in the room The Grinch had a shrunken little heart, no bigger than a walnut Secretariat, the great racehorse, was all heart She gave it a half-hearted attempt. 2

3 Ponder the following questions: 1. What is your heart s deepest desire? 2. What is the most courageous thing you ve ever done? 3. How do you move from a broken heart to a wise heart? Is it possible to live fully without having your heart broken? List the experiences that have broken your heart. How have you lived courageously in spite of a broken heart? The First Energy Circuit: From the Heart Chakra to the Solar Plexus Chakra and then on up to the Throat Chakra In the diagram, note that the first spiral starts at the heart and goes down to the 3rd chakra and then up the 5th chakra, in ever-widening circles. The first spiral governs the power of will and speaking the truth. 3

4 The 5th Chakra: The Energy Circuit Around the Throat The 5th chakra governs the thyroid, throat, teeth, mouth, and gums. It is related to our ability to speak our truth at the right time and in the right way. The high traits of the 5th chakra are: Being able to articulate our truth in a way that others can hear it. Having the right relationship to time versus never having enough time and always feeling rushed. A strong will. Having the ability to stick with something until it is finished. The low traits of the 5th chakra include: Never speaking up for yourself. Swallowing your words. Spewing your emotions and words out without considering their impact on others. An undeveloped personal will. The 3rd Chakra: The Solar Plexus The 3rd chakra governs the digestive system including the stomach, pancreas, liver, small intestine, gall bladder, kidneys, and adrenal glands. It is the physical center for self-esteem and personal power. The high traits of the 3rd chakra are: Being proud of one s worth versus being conceited and a braggart (traits of those with low self-esteem). Knowing the difference between your responsibility to self versus giving oneself away to others. Knowing how to digest and refine all aspects of life. The low traits of the 3rd chakra include: Overworking and/or overeating to quell the pain of not feeling worthy. Addictions of all kinds which are ways of abdicating responsibility for self. Being overly responsible for others, while neglecting and abandoning yourself. Not being able to stomach your life. 4

The Power of Will and Speaking the Truth Connecting the 3rd and 5th chakras results in: These high traits: Having a gut feeling (body intuition) about something.

Being willing and able to verbalize your feelings in a timely manner. To share your truth, and in a way that others can hear it. These low traits: Addiction is a disorder of the 3rd and 5th chakra. We quell our personal pain with addiction to substances or processes that put us out of touch with what we know and what we feel. Workaholism is the addiction of choice in those who don t feel worthy. We overeat or over imbibe (take in through the mouth and throat) because of feelings of inadequacy and self-worth. We abdicate responsibility for our own lives and those of our loved ones. Adrenal burnout comes from low self-esteem putting the needs of others before your own because you don t feel worthy.
