1 FORT HOWARD COUNCIL #5382 STAR COUNCIL DESK OF THE GRAND KNIGHT Greeting, Well I think spring is finally here and the tough winter is in our rear view mirror. First off I want to thank the council for all your efforts in the recent events: Tootsie Roll Drive, Mothers Day Carnations and Brat Fry. Our good works and fundraising are well received by the community. THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HELPED OUT! Check out the photos on the Activities Page 6. This weekend is our annual St Jude/St Pats Parish Picnic. On Sunday, we are once again sponsoring buses and welcoming the nursing home residents from Golden Living and Marla Vista. If you are able to volunteer your time, we meet in the upper parking lot at St Jude around 9:15. The buses will start arriving between 9:15 & 9:30. We assist the residents off the bus and wheel them into mass for 10 am. After mass we wheel them down to the cafeteria for lunch. We typically have them loaded back up by 1 pm. Then starting at 1 pm in the upper west field, we will be sponsoring the Punt/Pass/Kick and Free Throw Contests. Please try to help out with any or all of these events. Also, make sure you encourage your children, grandchildren, nieces & nephews, or neighbor kids between the ages of 8 & 12 to come participate. The more the merrier! We have a KC Corporate Communion coming up in June. We come together as knights to share in the mass. We are asking for you to try & attend 9:00 am mass at St Jude on June 15th, sit up front together as families, wear your shirt if you have one. Some of the brother knights usually will bring up the gifts. This is also Father s Day, so a great way to start the day and celebrate being a knight and a father, if you are lucky enough to be one. Next week is our final scheduled Council Business Meeting Thursday June 5th starting at 7:00 pm. We are hoping to have two additional new members celebrating their First Degree. Please come join us at the meeting next week to celebrate the accomplishments of this past fiscal year. Mark your calendars, we are having an Induction Ceremony Wednesday June 18th at Annunciation, for our new officers. We will have the ceremony in the church at 6:00 pm and then immediately following have a light potluck dinner & social to celebrate the new Officers for next year. As many council members & families are encouraged to attend. The more members attending will help make a bigger impact for the celebration. These are our new leaders, as Knights we need to show our Support & Unity. We also have the KC Family Picnic scheduled for Thursday July, 17th at Perkins Park Pavillion starting at 6 pm, see page 2 for details. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support in helping me as your Grand Knight over the past two years. The council thrives because of the great spirit and unity of our brotherhood. Although I am stepping aside for new leadership, I will remain active as I enter my new officer role as 3 yr Trustee. I am confident that your new Worthy Grand Knight, Gary Northway will bring his wide array of talents and help this council stay vibrant & energized. Please extend your support to Gary & his wife Ann as you have shown to Kim & I over the past two years. Remember them in your hearts and prayers. Did you know? All four Parishes of the Quad-Parish community have a long established prayer vine/tree? The prayer vine/tree consists of a chain of people who communicate the names of those requested to pray for. Each prayer vine/tree person gives the name to another person who keeps passing it on to others and each person prays for them. The more people in the prayer vine, the more prayers are said. There are no formal meetings. Anyone who is interested please contact the Quad-Parish Office ( ). Our council has also established a on-line prayer vine, go to and click on prayer request. Motion passed Report of Admission Committee: (NTR) First Degree Exemplification: Three new candidates took the First Degree. Grand Knight Report: The 40 cans for lent was a huge success with over 5100 cans collected for St. Pats, Food Pantry. Thanks to all who help collect the cans from Annunciation, St. Joes, St. Jude and St. Pats. The 40 Days for Life Campaign has ended and thanks to Steve Deneys, Steve Steinmetz, and Jim Jerabeck for joining Kevin Hanson on the weekly vigil. The State Convention was held April 26 & 27 and Jack Wrbanich was elected as State Advocate. The Tootsie Roll Drive will take place May 2-4 at BMO Harris Bank, Kwik Trip and Festival Foods; help is needed please help make this another success. If any Knight has access to and would like to receive the news letter via please let Kevin Hanson know. Receiving the letter by will help save on the increasing cost of postage and printing. A reminder that membership dues need to be paid, if you already have paid thank you, if not please send your payment in as soon as possible. Reminder that the Council is looking for new members, do not be afraid to ask someone you if they would like to join the Knights. The Knight of the month May is Steve Steinmetz; Family of the month of the month is Jim and Holly Pecard. 7 PAGE 7 The St. Jude Picnic will be held on May 31 and June 1 st, help is needed on Sunday June 1 st with the Punt Pass and Kick and Free Throw contest. Also help is needed with the local nursing homes residents coming to the Picnic there will be two buses. The buses cost is $ each a motion was made and seconded to approve the money for the buses. Motion passed. On Mother s Day, Sunday May, 11 we will be handing out Carnations after the three masses at St. Jude and Annunciation. The cost of 200 carnations is $ a motion was made and seconded to approve the money for the carnations. Motion passed.
