September 2, To Mr. Frank Barker, a copy of the proposal of sale for the land where the Francis T. Nicholls Junior College will be located. A map of the recommended site is included. 5. Legendre, regarding the report of the LSU Survey Committee for Francis T. Nicholls Junior College. The report is enclosed. b. TLS. April 19, To Mr. R.O. Moncla, stating that Favrot and Reed have been selected as the architects for the junior college. c. TLS. May 17, To Mr. Irving E. Legendre, appreciating the honor of being in Thibodaux. He also referred to a discussion of the junior college in Thibodaux.

7 Irving E. Legendre Collection 7 D. March 8, Newspaper clipping indicating that a New Orleans firm was employed to prepare plans for the junior college. III. PHOTOGRAPHS 5 A. An original mill built in the 1890's which produced about 800 tons a day. The all-wooden structure closed in the 1920's with the onslaught of sugar diseases, Mosaic. Half of the Louisiana mills were closed during this time and cane was delivered in railroad narrow gauge cars. The mill reopened in 1937 and is located at Leighton Plantation. (2 copies). B The mill was rebuilt from wood to metal and enlarged it for fire protection. Most of the same equipment was used. Major improvements were made in the 1960's. (2 copies). C. Postcard featuring the same photograph as above and was used by the bank to show prospective buyers. D. First group of workers in the 1938 original maintenance crew that reopened the mill; 32 then, 50 now. E. Old method of unloading cane with slings in two ton bundles. Pick up with derrick and then sling open to remove it.
