Our parish mission is to sanctify souls through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Sacraments in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter was founded in 1988 as a Clerical Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right. The mission of the Fraternity is to sanctify priests through the traditional liturgy of the Roman Rite and to place them at the service of the Church. Public Devotions: Holy Hour and Benediction on Fridays at 6:30 pm. Rosary before Sunday 11:45 am Mass and First Saturday at 10:25am. Marian devotions following Wednesday evening Mass. 3 Know the Mass Psalm 121 Taken from the Douay Rheims 1. I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: We shall go into the house of the Lord. 2. Our feet were standing in thy courts, O Jerusalem. 3. Jerusalem, which is built as a city, which is compact together. 4. For thither did the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord: the testimony of Israel, to praise the name of the Lord. 5. Because their seats have sat in judgment, seats upon the house of David. 6. Pray ye for the things that are for the peace of Jerusalem: and abundance for them that love thee. 7. Let peace be in thy strength: and abundance in thy towers. 8. For the sake of my brethren, and of my neighbors, I spoke peace of thee. 9. Because of the house of the Lord our God, I have sought good things for thee. Laetare Sunday, the 4th Sunday of Lent, is named for the opening words of the Introit, Laetare Jerusaem - Rejoice O Jerusalem. These words are taken from the Prophet Isaiah who, in this last chapter, foretells the end of the tribulations of the Jews and the call of the Gentiles. As one whom the mother caresseth, so will I comfort you, and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. (Is. 66:13) Psalm 121 is chosen for the 2nd half of the Introit, for the Gradual, and the Communion of this Mass. Its joyful tone matches the prophecy of Isaiah and where he foretold the victory of Jerusalem, Psalm 121 captures the gladness of the pilgrim who has finally arrived there after a long journey. The exact time that this psalm was written in unknown, but in the midst of Lent, we could put it on the lips of those returning from Babylon after 70 years exile in a pagan culture. Jerusalem housed at its highest point the holy temple or house of God (v.1). Jerusalem thus was the pinnacle of all cities. Not only was it well built and beautiful (v.3), a mighty fortress on a hill, it was where God dwelt with His people. For this reason it was the center of Jewish worship and law (v.4-5). The psalmist turns to a prayer for the holy city in verses 6-9, that it may ever remain at peace. Peace is blending of order and tranquility. In it one can be at rest and unite himself to God more perfectly. 3

4 Announcements Summary of Last Sunday s Sermon Holy Week Retreat Sanctifying grace, received at Baptism, is the most precious gift a person can have in this life. It is the life of God in the soul and the seed of everlasting life. Fr. Insco will lead a silent retreat at the Archbishop Brunett Retreat Center at the Palisades from April for men and women. For more information and to register, visit palisadesretreatcenter.org. This event is Mortal sin forfeits sanctifying grace and makes the soul uninhabitable for God. Dying in mortal sin is to die in a state of rebellion against God and ushers a soul into an eternity without God, hell. organized by the retreat center. There is no temporal good which comes before sanctifying grace. Holy Week Schedule See page 6 for the Mass and Confession times during Holy Week. All Masses from April will be at Our Lord said, fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Mt. 10:28) Bastyr University Chapel. Stations of the Cross/Holy Hour And again, if thy right hand scandalize thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is expedient for thee that one of thy members should perish, rather than that thy whole body be cast into hell. (Mt. 5:30) Stations of the Cross will take place 30 minutes before the Wednesday and Friday Masses during Lent. There will be no holy hour on Wednesday evenings during Lent, but on Fridays there will be simple exposition Mortal sin consists of knowingly and willingly violating God s law in a serious manner (grave matter) after Mass until 9pm. The remedy for mortal sin is first and foremost confession. All unconfessed mortal sins must be taken to confession and told in kind and number. The Sacrament of Penance is the sure and certain manifestation of God s immense desire to save us from spending even a moment in mortal sin. First Friday and Saturday Stations of the Cross will precede the 12:10pm Mass on First Friday. Little Flowers will meet at the normal time after First Saturday Mass. State of the Archdiocese Holy Communion strengthens us with the very Source of life of grace and should be received devoutly as often as possible. Daily prayer prevents us from growing lukewarm during the week and keeps our guard up. This report was released on March 11th.
