2 A blessed and joy filled Easter. SJV SENIORS CLUB Our Wednesday May 4 th meeting will be held promptly at 1 PM at the Evergreen Center. The entertainment will be provided by the Woodbridge High School Choral Group. Refreshments will also be served. Come and enjoy! A RETREAT FOR THE SERIOUSLY ILL GENNESARET, a retreat designed to provide a spiritual and temporal oasis for men and women suffering with a serious illness, will be held the weekend of May 20, 21, at the Archdiocesan Retreat Center, located in Kearny, NJ. The retreat will begin Friday at 1:30 PM and end with a closing Prayer Service Sunday at 1:30 PM. There is no cost to you for the retreat. For further info all Peggy Walsh at , Maire Merritt at , or Linda Capobianco at A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly EASTER SUNDAY: THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD Do not be frightened: he is not here. He has been raised exactly as he promised. Come and see the spot where he was laid. Then go quickly and tell his disciples. He has been raised from the dead and now goes ahead of you to Galilee where you will see him. That is the message that I have for you. Do not be afraid! Go and carry the news to my brothers that they are to go to Galilee, where they will see me. Well it is Easter. It is the time we have been preparing for. It is the most important day for all Christians. We look back over the weeks of Lent, our prayer, fasting and good works. We relive the paschal mystery of Jesus dying and rising. We look at our lives today. Jesus still lives. The message is one thing, what to do with it is something else. The visitors to the tomb are told go quickly, tell the disciples, and if you go to Galilee you will see Him. Easter calls us all to witness. Why hesitate or delay? Are we afraid of such joyful news? More action follows. Do not delay and go and carry the news. Our willingness to carry out these commands might reflect how meaningful was the Jerusalem event of two thousand years ago or our own fear or disbelief. Notice the message is directed to an unnamed you. Notice too that the message is to be brought to waiting brothers and sisters, who need to know that Jesus lives today. He lives in the most vulnerable, the hurting, the poor, the marginalized, and our task is to help them recognize Him. Accept the gift of the message and take action. St. John Vianney School News Happy Easter to all of our students and their families! School will be closed for Pre-K through Grade 8 from Monday, April 25, through Friday, April 29, for our Easter vacation. School will reopen on Monday, May 2. Openings are available for many grade levels for the school year. If you would like more information or would like to register your child, please call the school office at Our next Open House will be on Wednesday, May 25, from 6-8 PM. Both buildings (Pre-K and Main) will be open for you to visit. How Americans Spend Their Time It has been reported that by the time the average American reaches age 50, he or she will have spent a full 10 of those years in front of the television set. Other studies reveal sobering insights into how much free time we spend each week on recreation, shopping and socializing. For Christian stewards, re-prioritizing time in order to share our God-given gifts means challenging those cultural values. Stewards of our Bodies Taking care of ourselves getting proper nutrition, exercise, rest, etc. is a crucial aspect of stewardship. For if we don t take proper care of ourselves, how could we possibly do any other aspect of stewardship? Lord Jesus, help us to realize it is not riches or fame or power that gives life meaning. Rather it is generosity and service to You and others that brings fulfillment and makes life worthwhile. May all we do help us to build Your Kingdom. Amen.

All students in grades 1 7 were given information regarding the 2011/2012 registration during the last week of March. Some of you have already registered your children. Doing it now eliminates the possibility the form will be misplaced or you will forget about it. Please pay special attention to the due date. Registration will be accepted as timely if it is received on or before June 17, The benefits of a timely registration are two-fold: you have the opportunity to select whether you prefer Monday or Thursday classes, and the registration fee is cheaper! Recognizing that some parents may not register by June 17 th we will accept late registrations for a little more than an additional month until July 29, Parents who return the materials during this late registration period will not have the opportunity to select a class night preference and will be required to pay a $15 late fee per student. Please understand that July 29 th is a FINAL date. Any registrations received after July 29, 2011 will be returned. This is a firm date. If the materials did not make it home with your child you can download from our website or stop in the office and we ll give you another copy. I do not know who the incoming first grade students are so I cannot send notices to their parents. Parents with children who will be in first grade in September can stop in the Catechetical Office to pick up the materials. Until mid-may the office is open on Monday and Thursday evenings. If you cannot make it during the day, take advantage of the evening hours. You can also register your children on Saturday evenings or Sundays after Mass. I have the materials in the sacristy. We will need a copy of the Baptismal certificate for all new students. YOUTH MINISTRY Happy Easter! This time of year moves so fast! It seems like we just finished DYD and Living Stations yet our Spring Retreat experience begins this Friday, April 29th. Participants are expected to arrive at the Youth Ministry office no later than 5:30pm fully packed. Parents, if you missed the parent meeting for the spring retreat weekend, Appalachia, and the National Catholic Youth Conference, there is still a very limited time for you to acquire the necessary time sensitive materials. For information regarding
4 the Spring retreat Weekend, Appalachia, or the National Catholic Youth Conference, please contact John Cook at or by calling the office at SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Easter is not just a day; it is a season 50 days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. Your response to practice Almsgiving in your Lenten journey of spiritual renewal has been gratifying. Consider continuing this practice until Pentecost and maybe beyond. Your donations to the Poor Box will be used to assist our less fortunate neighbors. They will be used to purchase food, pay delinquent utility bills, and support other charitable programs of the Society. To our benefactors and supporters at SJV, the members of the Society thank you for your generosity. May the love, peace, and joy of the Easter Season be yours. Do what we can, and God will do the rest. St. Elizabeth Seton Easter Season Spiritual Programs As a follow-up to our Lenten mission we have planned programs during the Easter season for continued spiritual formation. These programs are open to all. There is no fee or homework for either program, but registration is requested so we can adequately prepare materials. Spiritual Programs What Makes Us Uniquely Catholic? Tuesday evening, May 17 th A one evening follow-up to our Lenten mission in the form of a group discussion on being Catholic. Together we will explore the rich heritage of our Catholic faith. Additional sessions on specific topics may follow. I Believe Wednesday evenings - May 4, 11, 18, and 25 A vibrant 4-week video mini-course on the Creed discussing the basic beliefs of a Roman Catholic, presenting Catholicism as an intimate, personal relationship with God, and providing Catholic answers to the questions that the Creed was composed to address. All sessions in the Church upper conference room beginning at 7:30pm. Please contact Deacon Joe or Rose Ragucci via jragucci@sjvs.net or call if you would like to register for either or both of these programs. Please call if you would like to attend a morning session (if sufficient interest). PRO LIFE The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at 7:30 PM (note time change) in the Church Board Room.
