2 From The Commander! Reflecting on my first six months, I am still blessed with the support I receive from many members of this post. I feel some joy in noting some goals on which we have made progress. Our membership is moving along at a very successful rate. We are currently recruiting many younger members, which we must have to survive. Everyone is doing a great job in this area and I tip my hat to all of you. The patio is moving along. It is about to become a finished reality, despite some setbacks. It will be a nice addition when completed. Thanks to the UASS crew. The club committee is working hard putting great events on our calendars every month. We each need to promote these events and turn them into landslide events. I must also accept my mistakes. Our financial status is little changed, even after increasing revenue in areas such as the kitchen output. There is no immediate overnight answer. I can only promise to keep chipping away. I am very painfully aware of my failure to connect in a positive way with our Auxiliary. This began as one of my most important goals, and I am yet without the right answer. I apologize for the delay and assure you I will keep trying. We have a busy December coming up. Let s make it a happy and productive one. Tina and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season. Pro Deo et Patria Ken Whitecotton Important Dates for The Month! 4 Greetings Everyone! Junior Vice Commander & Club Committee Chairperson I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and you were able to spend it with family or friends. I wish to thank everyone involved in making our recent District 5 fundraiser such a great success. The band was awesome, and I know those who attended had a great time. Special thanks to Cowboy Bill (Bill McClain) who spearheaded and provided a superb dinner the night before Thanksgiving at the Post. I once again thank all our Comrades, Auxiliary and club staff for making our post successful and truly the Friendly Post. Once again, we have a busy calendar and continue to look for volunteers to help us be successful. Check the club calendar and where you see a club event let us know if you re interested in helping as we have several events coming up that will be fun for everyone. I wish everyone a safe, joyous month of December and thanks to all Post and Auxiliary members, and club employees who continuously work hard and volunteer time to help make all our events successful. The new patio is very close to completion and we have scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony/patio party in January so make sure you check the club calendars. I really hope to see you all at our events. I can t stress enough that we are all working towards the good of serving veterans and I wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas. God Bless our Troops and their Families, Greg Harrell Greg Harrell PAGE 4
5 Auxiliary President Welcome to the last newsletter of the year. We all have many things to be grateful for this past year. Our Post and Auxiliary have completed many of our goals for the year. One of the things we both have worked on is communication. I m very pleased with the progress we have made in this area. Many thanks to Commander Whitecotton and his team. Another one of our goals is to get to 100% with our membership. If you have a family member or friend that has not renewed their annual membership, please encourage them to do so by the end of the year. Our membership chairperson has been making phone calls to those who have not renewed yet. If you need help with your dues please let us know and we will see what we can do to help you out. As the year comes to an end many people consider making donations to their favorite charities. We are asking if you would like to support the Auxiliary with buying gifts for the Children s Christmas Party. If you are not a shopper you may make a monetary donation to the Auxiliary or bring a toy with a $10.00 value. We would be happy to give you a tax receipt for your donation. You have no idea how happy you can make a child this year. There are many families out there that are not as fortunate as we are. Our party is a little earlier this year because of when Christmas falls during the week. We will hold it on Sunday, December 16 th, from 1 pm until 3 pm. Another way to help is by attending the terrific activities we have going on at the Post. Please try to attend one or more during this busy Christmas Season. Blessings to all, Anita Hess, Auxiliary President To Whom It May Concern: Friday Night Fish Fry Update We are adding to the menu for the Friday Night Fish Fry. If you would like baked cod please call the post on Friday before 2 pm to reserve it. It would be appreciated and we can guarantee that we have some for you. I would like to thank everyone who donated to and worked so hard to make our rummage sale such a huge success! Start saving your donations for our spring sale! Thank you Peg Bayer PAGE 5
6 Chaplain s Corner for December, 2018 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -Isaiah 9:6 (New King James Version) As I write this, it is 4 days before Thanksgiving, at about 6:45 AM. I have just come in from a pastoral call for a family that lost their beloved father, grandfather and father-in-law. It is at times like this that I reflect on the importance of spending time with family, while you can. At this time of year, family becomes even more important. Cherish your loved ones, and let them KNOW how much they mean to you.. every single day. Also, during the hustle and chaos of the Holiday Season, please take a moment to remember and pray for those who cannot be with their loved ones during this Season. the men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States. Pray for their continued safety, and that they would be able to come home safely to those who love them. May God s grace and peace be upon you, and upon your families this Holiday Season. May the joy of the Season overflow! Yours in Service to God and Country,. C. Adam G. Grose Chaplain VFW Post 549 Page 6
