2 Have you met Ron. James? You might have run across our dear friend Ron, performing on-stage (often with his brother, Brian) at one of St Andrew s functions. Ron was born in the UK and was a child in London during the World War II bombings. He is a retired businessman who worships at St Andrew s and is a fantastic friend and helper to so many of our folk. At the 8.30am Services, he operates the audio recorder; he is an active member of St. Andrew s Fellowship; sings at the Village with St. Andrew s Singers; performs with song and banjo at the Seniors Lunches and Theatre Restaurant events, and is always at our Blokes Breakfasts. He is always there helping when the show is over for the day. Ron has a strong Christian faith and has never lost the twinkle in his eye. We are very blessed to have you with us Ron, so thanks for all that you do at St Andy s. The 8 Cow Wife (The following story was copied from the Marriage Week website ) Johnny Lingo lived in the South Pacific. The islanders all spoke highly of this man, but when it came time for him to find a wife the people shook their heads in disbelief. In order to obtain a wife you paid for her by giving her father cows. Four to six cows was considered a high price. But the woman Johnny Lingo chose was plain, skinny and walked with her shoulders hunched and her head down. She was very hesitant and shy. What surprised everyone was Johnny's offer -- he gave eight cows for her! Everyone chuckled about it, since they believed his father-inlaw put one over on him. Several months after the wedding, a visitor from the U.S. came to the islands to trade and heard the story about Johnny Lingo and his eight-cow wife. Upon meetmeeting Johnny and his wife the visitor was totally taken back, since this wasn't a shy, plain and hesitant woman but one who was beautiful, poised and confident. 2
3 The visitor asked about the transformation, and Johnny Lingo's response was very simple. "I wanted an eight-cow woman, and when I paid that for her and treated her in that fashion, she began to believe that she was an eight-cow woman. She discovered she was worth more than any other woman in the islands. And what matters most is what a woman thinks about herself." To view the Marriage Week website, go to Blokes & Sheds Men s Breakfast Saturday 11 th February 7.30am Guest Speaker: Gray Knight Trials and Transitions - Becoming a man in the 21st century. I. D. A. SERVICE Although the IDA Service is usually held on the first Friday of the month, this year the first Friday, 6 April is Good Friday. This has caused the April IDA Service to be cancelled. Welcome to the next IDA Service at 10:15am on 4 May. 3

5 Playtime PlayTime is on at St Andrew's every Monday during school terms from 9.30am to 11.30am in the Auditorium. This activity gives mums a chance to have a cuppa and chat while watching the children enjoying playing, craft, music and interacting with others. Each term includes an outing to a park or play centre, and we finish the year with a Christmas party. We are constantly looking to expand our group: mums, dads, carers and grandparents are invited to join us. Just call in and see what happens! Same-Sex Marriage Proposals Before Parliament Many people at St Andrews have already signed a petition against these amendments, and thank you for your support. There are now three same-sex marriage bills in the Parliament and a vote is likely after the winter recess in August or September, These Bills have been referred to a Senate Select Committee, which is receiving submissions from members of the public and other interested parties. You can write to this Committee, Submissions close on Monday, April 2. Senate_Committees?url=legcon_ctte/marriage_equality_2012/index.htm Like to know more information on this vital issue? 6 POSITIONS VACANT at St. Andrew s From August/September 2012 Congegational Chairperson ( Chair Manager - female or male) 4 meetings per year, congregation contact and liaison person St. Andrew s Centre Manager Controls bookings, users, keys etc. Publicity Coordinator Prepare annual Church Planner, Weekly Announcements, advertising. Property Coordinator Repairs, fire service, emergency lighting system, pest inspection. Church Treasurer Oversight and management of finance and budget, with helpers! Roster Coordinator Compile and distribute the bi-monthly rosters. Church Office Manager Maintaining records, database, stationery. Church Web site Manager Oversee our internet site, regularly updating the Church Calendar. All positions are open to Ladies and Gentlemen. All positions are for Love of our Lord and are voluntary. Our regular congregation members know that Bruce Fairhall has been our Church Administrator (and more) for many years and that Bruce and Heather will soon be moving from the Hawkesbury, no doubt with some sad feelings. Bruce placed the above advertisement in the March Newsletter, but at the time of assembling this newsletter, no responses had been received. If the tasks of Church Administrator and these other things that ought to be done, are not done, our administration will fall into chaos. A good response to fill the vacancies would allow a smooth transition while Bruce can provide support. It would also be a kindly way of saying Thanks to Bruce and Heather. 6 Editor.
7 The Pinny Parade By Sandi Herbert Thank you so much for all the folk who came to the Pinny Parade. From a notion said in jest, we had a very good group. The stories varied as did the aprons - from Pat O'Toole who had made her apron at school 40 years ago to Dulcie's odd story of how she wanted to be a hostie with Qantas and has an apron instead. There was David Harper who wore his pastel work apron and a work of art to show, and Mary Avern in a borrowed pinny which had blue wrens on the pocket - it reminded her of the little ones which visit her at the village. Also, Hazel McIver sent her mum s beautiful embroidered pinnys they had little stories attached. Dorothy Butler brought some old ones in need of embroidering which were from 1935, BUT the 'oldest' was Nat's fig leaf apron reminding us of Adam and Eve's Fall. All in all it was a fun time and we made $75 for the Kids Sunday. 7
