1 Nurture The Rising Generation Hold On, Hold Dear With No Fear It is our responsibility sisters to give all we have to help raise and love this precious generation. At times we think and ask ourselves is anything we do noticed. Let that not be in your thoughts. It is our responsibility to take care of our little ones that Heavenly Father has trusted us with. We have a responsibility to strengthen one another and help each other achieve this imperative duty. Never forget that these little ones are the sons and daughters of God and that yours is a custodial relationship to them. President Gordon B. Hinckley How Can I Nurture a Rising Generation? Here are some moments that young mother s, teenage mother s, and grandparent s have shared. Hopefully you will be able to glean a new idea from some of these insights. - pend time with your children they grow up to fast. - Make nowflakes in the winter and hang them above your dinning room table. -Take time to teach them the gospel by reading in the scriptures -Have a picture of the temple in your home -Give them the love for reading. Read to them when you are traveling instead of watching a movie. -Teach them young to want to serve a mission -Take time to play games with them -chedule a kids day. Put aside other things or take a day off work. Visit a museum, go fishing, have a picnic, go to the park or visit the library. Just do something out of the ordinary.

2 -Take your children to a rest home and let them visit the elderly and adopt a grandma or grandpa. Make it a point to visit regularly. -Teach them the value of working and finishing the job they started -Decorate for the seasons and holidays and let them help -Teach your children and grandchildren about our avior Jesus Christ and read from the Book of Mormon with them -Have a picture of the Prophet in your home -Have a picture of the avior in your home -Let them see you reading the scriptures -If your grandchildren live far away it s great to have a web cam on your computer so you can see them everyday and read stories to them. You can even get really creative and play hide-n-seek. (I really enjoy this with my grandchildren in New Jersey) -You can also use the web cam to host a quarterly family night. All your children who live far away can participate at the same time and you are able to connect and be as a family even if you are far away from each other. -Have family traditions. ome are kept for 2 or 3 generations Christmas Eve Party with Family with Piñata and talent show -Teach by example. A child will not always remember what you say, but they will remember how you made them feel. -how family support. upporting each other at family events, baseball games, dance recitals. -Have your home be the home where all the friends want to be so you not only are nurturing your children but others kids and making them feel comfortable too. -Try to remember to include your kids in the simple things around the house - doing the dishes, fixing meals, house work, gardening and things of everyday life -Have a family night and tell a group story. One person starts with a sentence and the next person adds to it. ( It could be from the Book of Mormon or a fun made up story) -Tell your children about what you did when you were growing up. What the music was like, what you like to do and something about you that they might not know. This could bring you a little closer to your teenagers. -Pack a cookie sheet and some magnets when going on a trip for young children. Or try the poetry magnets for your older children and see what they come up with.

3 -Play the Who Am I question game, or reverse and describe a person in your group to the other players. It might make a world of difference to someone who is struggling at that time. -Try to Eat at Least one meal together as a family. It is amazing what you can find out about your children at the dinner table. -Wait up for your teenagers. If they know you are going to be there waiting for them they might change the course for that night. It is a moment for a one-on-one with your child, to hear about their evening, whether it was a date, or night out with their friends. -Take pictures of all your family and grandchildren and make flannel board pictures. end them to all your children and they will have pictures of everyone in the family to make up and tell stories about them. -In the Daily Herald on Monday Nights they have a page with ideas for you to do as families To Nurture means to cultivate, care for and make grow. Nurturing requires organization, patience, love and work. Helping growth occur through nurturing is truly a powerful and influential role bestowed on women. The responsibility mothers have today has never required more vigilance. More that at any time in the history of the world, we need mothers who know. Children are being born into a world where they wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. However, mothers need not to fear. When mothers know who they are and who God is and have made covenants with Him, they will have great power and influence for good on their children. ister Julie Beck (General Relief ociety President)

4 Never Give Up, this life is all about the JOURNEY. Remember that the most power and influence we have starts in our own HOME Our rising generation is worthy of our BET effort to support and strengthen them in their journey to adulthood. In every action we take, in every place we go, with every Latter-day aint young person we meet, we need to have an increased awareness of the need for strengthening, nurturing, and being an influence for good in their lives Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Presidency of the eventy We just don t know when we might come in contact with a child or a youth that might need us or that we might have something to offer. We each have something to give. It doesn t need to be something grand it just needs to come from the heart. Then we will truly nurture the rising generation.
