1 A Message from Pastor N. Jerome McClain, Sr. My brothers and sisters, we join the many across the globe who mourn the continued violence which has become epidemic in our present culture. The most recent being the mass shooting at The First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. While some question the mental state of those who perpetrate assaults on our safety, many are either not willing or simply blind to the mission of Satan. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8) Such words may appear as poetry to those who are not endowed with the Spirit of God, but to us it is a call to vigilance, especially in times like these. Pastor Frank and Mrs. (Sherri) Pomeroy lost not only a 14-year- old daughter, Annabelle, but many other daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. One report lists 26 people killed and many others wounded or suffering from the effects of the assault. According to the Washington post, Inside the church, the deceased actually ranged from 18 months to 77 years of age. While we mourn their deaths we shall also allow such to be the glue that brings us closer. We shall remember that Jesus said, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. (Luke 9:23-24) Yes, the event on November 5th was tragic but not in vain; because we as brothers and sisters in Christ may celebrate their grand entrance into the kingdom of God and awake to the wiles of the enemy and the promises of the Lord. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. (1 Peter 5:9-10) We, the members of Julington Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida pledge our

2 prayers and support, where able, to the church and families of The First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. We bid you God speed. Each class will be conducted after church services between 1:00-2:00pm in the smartroom. The instructor is Rev. McKenzie. Please see below for specific class offerings. Sign-up will be held in the entrance to the fellowship Hall. The class schedule is as follows: November 19-3rd Sunday Basic computer use (Optional: Bring Your Own Laptop) November 26-4th Sunday Basic Cellphone Use (Bring your own IPhone or Android devices) December 3-1st Sunday Basic Applications Use (Social Media, Church Website, financial apps, etc.) We will only have 1 hour for the class so prompt attendance is required. Attention High School Students The high school unit has scheduled a meeting with all high school students (9 th 12 th grade) on TODAY, November 12 th immediately following service in the education building. (Room TBD) Parents of high school students are asked to attend for the first 15 minutes of the meeting. If you have any questions, please see the Youth Director.

3 Education Corner Into the Word: November 2017 Fall Quarter Covenants with God Our third unit of study touches on some distinctive qualities of the new covenant in Jesus. The prophet Jeremiah (lesson 11) foresaw this covenant as he looked ahead to God s intentions to remember their sins no more. (Jeremiah 31:34). The study from Hebrews 12 (lesson 12) notes how Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant. Appropriately, that lesson is followed by instructions on observing the Lord s Supper. Christ instituted this example as a way for us to remind ourselves of the basis the new covenant under which we live. The book of Hebrews 8:6 states: But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. This verse is and assured reminder to us, that the new covenant in Christ is infinitely better than the old. It is a blessing and privilege to live under the grace of Almighty God! (Sign-up prior to November 26 th is required for this event The Women Ministry and the Youth Department are working together to ensure all children practicing for the Christmas Program on this date will also have time for the cookie bake & exchange.
