Studebaker Corral President s Message The holidays are here again and it seems like we just finished them. The older I get the quicker the years go by. Helen and I would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season. I haven t done anything on the old Studebaker lately, but I do have a question for those of you who haven t replaced the valves and seats on your cars. I had a good sized bottle of lead substitute gas additive for about 10 years. I used the last of it this fall and when I tried to replace it I could not find another. Please let me know at the next meeting what you are doing for lead replacement. The next meeting is the Christmas Party and election of officers. I d like to remind everyone that this is their chance to volunteer to be President, particularly if they have a loud projecting voice. -Loren Nelson- Events 7. December Meeting Details 8. Studebaker Calendar International Meet Details Editor Commentary December marks the 24th month that I have been performing the role of Hillholder editor, with significant assistance from my patient wife, Guadalupe. A funny thing happened recently: I received a note from a long-time member of the North Georgia SDC indicating that another member doesn't have the current club roster. My first thought was, "Why am I being told about this since I am the Hillholder editor not the Membership Secretary?" Then it occurred to me that I always perform the role of broadcasting messages to the membership; I am the keeper of the list. So it's perfectly logical that when our Membership Secretary publishes a new version of the roster, I should be the one to send it out to everyone, just as I do the Hillholder each month. But only now, nearly two years into this role, did I reach that realization. So thanks everyone for your patience. I know that Jim Carto will be publishing a newly revised one in a few months, but in the meantime you should now have the current (October 1, 2017) roster. Better late than never, eh? 4 Standard Items: North Georgia Chapter SDC Minutes Sunday, November 5, 2017 Miss Dot s Diner and Sweet Shop, Loganville President Loren Nelson called the meeting to order at 3:11 p.m. He thanked Wayne and Terry Ziemer for hosting the meeting at this location. The sign-in sheet was passed around. Terry Ziemer moved, Barbara Miller seconded, to approve the October minutes as published in the November Hillholder. Motion carried. Tim Taylor moved, Helen Nelson seconded, to approve the September Treasurer s Report as published in the November Hillholder. Motion carried. President Loren Nelson congratulated club members celebrating birthdays or anniversaries in the month of November. Reports: Barbara Miller, Treasurer, provided a report for the month of October. The complete report appears on page 3 of this Hillholder. Jim Carto, Membership Secretary, encouraged people to pay their 2018 membership dues now rather than wait until later. A new membership directory will be forthcoming soon and will include only those members with paid dues. In our thoughts and prayers: Charlotte Delli is undergoing chemotherapy. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Announcements: Membership secretary Jim Carto is accepting 2018 dues payments now so that a new club roster can be published earlier. See Jim about paying your $10 renewal fee for Barbara Miller received a box full of photographs from Bob Hughes, a former club newsletter editor. If you are a long-standing member of the club, you might remember Bob and you might find yourself in one or more of these photos. Barbara will bring the photos to the December meeting, and everyone is welcome to take home any photos of interest. The Buchanan family, friends of Charleen and Billy Carey, attended our meeting for the first time and immediately joined. We are delighted to have them as new members. They own a Studebaker street rod. Wayne Lee announced that Streetside Classics on Thornton Road in Atlanta (Lithia Springs) is having their annual Toys for Tots car show on Saturday, December 2, from 11:00 to 2:00. Bring a toy and you will receive a raffle ticket for prizes. (Limit of 10 tickets per person.) Call for more information. At 3:24 PM, Wayne Ziemer moved, Barbara Miller seconded, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Door prizes were generously provided by the hosts, Wayne and Terry Ziemer. Loren and Helen Nelson won the 50-50, and the club banked $

Some material edited out of Turning Wheels is included in the book as well as updates and several new items written after the Turning Wheels series was published. Some Thoughts is aimed at the first time restorer but will be of value to the more experienced. It is not intended to be a how to restore book but gives a look at the decision-making processes, tools, spaces, and basic skills needed to do a restoration. It also provides a framework to help structure a project and contains several chapters of Studebakerspecific advice. Dan and Barbara Miller, Next Generation of Studebaker Drivers As you know, September 9, 2017 was International Drive Your Studebaker Day and our North Georgia Chapter held its meeting that day. Rochelle and Alan Ziglin planned to attend driving Bullet, their 1951 Commander Starlight Coupe. However, their younger son Eric and his wife Jenny surprised them by bringing their two grand kids, Mason and Bailey, to Atlanta from New Orleans (1,000 mile round trip). So even though they missed our meeting, they did go for a ride in Bullet with their kids and grandkids. The grandkids are wearing the adults "Drive Your Studebaker" shirts that Charleen and Billy Carey had made for the Chapter several years ago.
