1 Fogleman Newsletter Volume 1 Issue 3 Fogleman Publication for the Descendants March 2002 Foglemans' - the beginning of the gnealogy... While there are many researchers and genealogist in the Fogleman family, we will use the work of Jack Shaddy with his permission, on the early ancestors. Several works can be located on the Internet (next issue). There are a few private collections, and proper recognition is not always given to those who diligently work at maintaining the Fogleman identity. Who can say what makes one individual in a family hold the desire to "keep a record" but it is individuals such as these who have for, at least, 250 years maintained this family history data for the future generations of Fogleman's. While this writer cannot vouch for the authencity of the data, the information is presented for those of interest. In January 2002, Edwin Coble forwarded material about Melchoir as well as Samuel. A letter from Ruth Hope Lessley of Paducah, KY held the following excerpts: I expect, that your 1773 Samuel was either a cousin or older brother of my Sarah Fogleman Sides. When in the vicinity of Concord in 1966 I copied some of the baptismal records of Fogleman children and grandchildren but did no(t) sic find Sarah s nor any Samuels. The records of the original St. John s Lutheran church (See QUERIES on page 4) 2002 FOGLEMAN REUNION UPDATE In the usual fashion as last year, the program will be held during the weekend of May 24-25, A tour, guided by Jerry Whittle, will begin at 10 a.m. on May 25 from the Hampton Inn, Burlington, North Carolina, for a convoy to ancestral locations in the county. The first congregation of St. John s church was formed from the Old Dutch Buffalo Creek congregation, which was in the area as early as The building, a log structure, was used by both Luteran and Dutch Reform worshipers as was the new St. John s. The Lutheran records have been translated and put into alphabetical form. The Dutch Reform are in process of being revised and are in possession of a college in Salisbury. To date I have been unable to get any information about them. Therethem. There were a good many Fogleman s named in the baptism of St. John s records but most were older people sponsoring baptisms or marriages of grandchildren and I concluded that they were probably Dutch reform themselves. I had occasion this winter to examine some Maury Co., Tenn. Records for another family and there were Fogleman s there alright. Ms. Lessley further added that Melchoir Fogleman is probably buried at the Old Dutch Buffalo Creek site and cemetery.
