] VOLUME XIV ISSUE # APRIL - JUNE YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO THE ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEETH ANNUAL SESSION OF THE GRAND CHAPTER OF MARYLAND HARMONY THROUGH MUSIC WORTHY GRAND MATRON SISTER CLAUDIA A. EATON 1 WORTHY GRAND PATRON BROTHER EDSEL B. CROUSE
Report from Sister Jean Oliver-Haynes - I had a great visit today with Catherine Stevens in Punta Gorda today. She is doing great... will perhaps leave rehab in a week or so and then will be with her granddaughter for a couple of weeks before she plans to head back to Hagerstown! She mentioned how many cards she has received and really appreciates the prayers and thoughts. Her birthday was March 13, celebrating her 101st birthday. MEMORIES OF OUR GRAND YEAR
FROM OUR GRAND CONDUCTRESS SISTER DIANE SMITH Dear Sisters and Brothers of Maryland Eastern Star. I would like to thank the members of the Grand Chapter for your love, support, and belief in me to serve as your Grand Conductress this year. I cannot help but marvel how fast this year has gone by. I thoroughly enjoyed traveling all over the state and greeting so many of my Sisters and Brothers. When I visited chapters, whether for a Grand Visitation or just a visit, I always felt welcomed and right at home. I look forward to traveling next year and meeting many more of you. There have been many stories that could be told as well as lessons learned but I have had a great year, one that I will always cherish and remember for a life time. May God s richest blessings be with each of you as we enter a new Grand Chapter Year. See you in my travels. Star Love, Diane Smith, Grand Conductress of MD FROM OUR GRAND CHAPLAIN SISTER GAY S. TOPPER It has been a great honor to serve as Grand Chaplain of the Grand Chapter of Maryland for This is an honor not only for me but for the members of Marlboro No. 61. I am happy to have been a part of the Grand Family for Sister Claudia Eaton, WGM, and Brother Edsel Crouse, WGP, during their Harmony Through Music Grand Year and have truly had a wonderful time. I have especially enjoyed getting to know the other members of our Grand Family and spending time with them. In our musical Grand Family, each Grand Officer may have sung a different note but we have done our best to work together in harmony to create a beautiful choir. During our Grand Year I traveled many miles, attending Schools of Instruction, Grand Chapter Sessions in other Grand Jurisdictions, special events for the various youth groups, and Grand Visitations to our subordinate chapters. I was often called upon to substitute as Chaplain and enjoyed participating in the meetings of those chapters. It has been an honor to offer prayer before many events during the year and especially to participate in the Bonnie Blink Palm Sunday Service on March 29. I enjoyed tremendously my travels as Grand Chaplain and the events I was able to attend. I want to thank Sister Claudia and Brother Edsel for this appointment and allowing me to be a part of their Grand Year. It has been an experience I will always treasure. I also want to thank my two wonderful traveling companions Sisters Sylvia Spriestersbach and Bobbie Andrukitis for their support this year. They definitely made the entire year lots of fun. Congratulations, too, to Sister Karla Light, Julia Halla No. 107, Grand Chaplain for I know she will have a wonderful year. Thank you to all the members of this Grand Chapter for their support and good wishes during the past year. I hope I have filled the station of Grand Chaplain in a manner that has been pleasing to my Sisters and Brothers and brought honor to our beautiful Order. Star Love, Gay S. Topper Grand Chaplain FROM OUR GRAND ORGANIST BROTHER D. LYNN NEWMAN I am sending you my memories of my year as Grand Organist. I was pleased to meet many new star sisters and brothers and everyone is a joy to be with. It was quite a surprise when Sister Claudia asked me if I would serve during her term as Worthy Grand Matron. I always looked forward to the Grand Visitations, meetings and special events to catch up with everyone. Some of my fondest memories are the good times I have had with the members of the Grand Family. From co-directing the Grand Family band to providing the "big blue limousine" for Sister Betty, we have had a lot of fun. I will always appreciate my seat mates, Sister Jean and Sister Pat, and our ability to get in and out of trouble with our talking. Yes, we have had fun, even though a little road weary from all the mileage, and I will always remember the honor of my appointment. In Star Love, D. Lynn Newman, Grand Organist
FROM OUR GRAND ESTHER SISTER JUDITH A. HALL As Grand Esther, I would like to say what an honor it has been to serve the Grand Chapter as an appointive officer and a dream come true! It was exciting to be a Grand Star Point (my very first Star Point!) and especially the courageous and loyal Queen and wife. I have enjoyed visiting the Chapters across the state, our various Grand Chapter events and other Jurisdictions, making new OES friends and greeting old OES friends too! It has been fun bringing music to the Grand Visitations as well laughter with our various musical renditions. I have also enjoyed the great food, fellowship and fun at the Oktoberfest, Quarter Auction and Puttin on the Ritz events. WGM Sister Claudia and WGP Brother Edsel, have done a wonderful job conducting our Grand Family with tunes of love and laughter. The Grand Star Point Sisters and I have really shared lots Notes of friendship and love. Our chords of togetherness will always be a musical highlight for me this year. All the other Elected and Appointed Grand Officers have been a wonderful group of Sisters and Brothers to travel with throughout the state. I loved how all our various Tones of personalities blended to present a Performance of sweet Musical friendship that we will all share for a lifetime! I thank all the Sisters and Brothers for their support and a year filled with many harmonies friendships and memories! Last, I would like to leave everyone with this thought: If you ve ever been a Grand Esther or a Chapter Esther, you know when I say, that we hold our heads a little bit higher because it is so regal to hold this position. It s such a marvelous story. Who hasn t wanted to be queen for a day? But, it took much courage and boldness for Esther to approach the king without being invited. She was literally risking her life. We too may have to risk all that is dear to us when we speak up for what is right. But like Esther, we can be sure that the results of our efforts are in God s hands. Sister Judith A. Hall Grand Esther FROM OUR GRAND WARDER SISTER E. BETTY JORDAN Being a Grand Officer was an honor and a great joy. Being able to travel the Maryland chapters as well as other jurisdictions was a pleasure. The trip to Germany was a real experience. I was very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful Grand Family where I made lasting friendships. I want to thank Sister Claudia and Brother Edsel again for my chance in a life time. This has been a wonderful year. It was a great experience, visiting the chapters, making new friends and renewing old friendships. The Grand Family is a wonderful group of sisters and brothers. I am thankful for being able to serve the with my Grand Family. E.Betty Jordan, Grand Warder
FROM OUR GRAND SENTINEL BROTHER ELBERT SWINEY Special thank you to our Worthy Grand Matron Sister Claudia and Worthy Grand Patron Brother Edsel for my appointment as Grand Sentinel.
