1 T H E Happy Easter! To Early? Maybe you are reading this before we gather for worship on Maundy Thursday (7pm) and give focus to: Come to the Table. And maybe, just maybe, you are reading this before we gather for worship on Good Friday (7pm) to hear how Jesus Demonstrated Faith Over Circumstances. By the way, the Good Friday sermon title above, was the one more of you suggested than any of the other three referred to in last months newsletter contest! Beyond you participating in worship at Emanuel I invite you to join me at the annual Noon time Good Friday Community Worship Service in downtown Lodi at First United Methodist (southwest corner of Church and Oak Streets). All of the above leads us to Easter Sunday and all our celebrations! We begin the special day of His Resurrection with our SonRise service (6am), followed by the start of our annual Pancake Breakfast (7am-10:45am), which leads us to our 8:15am celebration with our Choir and Holy Communion, and then the fun Easter Egg Hunt (10am) followed by our 11am worship celebration including again our Choir and Holy Communion. All of the worship and fellowship opportunities above, are blessings for you to share with people you care about. Pray about who YOU can invite to all that Emanuel has to offer. Let me shift gears: They will know we are Christians by our love! Do you know this song? Do you try to live the lyrics out each day? Here at Emanuel, we are striving to express Christian love through our actions. Here are some examples: On Tuesday evenings, at 7pm, one of our small groups are going to engage in a new study called 40 Days of Community and you are invited to join them beginning April 3rd! This study comes from the same people that blessed us with What on Earth am I here for?. On April 14th we are joining hundreds of others in a community movement called LOVE LODI! On April 28th we are blessed to join The Walk for Life annual fundraiser that the Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC) hosts. Oh, by the way, as you know we support the Salvation Army right here in Lodi and this past year we helped them serve 102,078 hot meals, provide 27,243 nights of shelter, and gave 16,262 food boxes to the hungry. We are showing Christian love as we live out Matthew 25! I wrap this page up by offering two final points. One, I give thanks for Delores Harnack for her faithful service to God and Emanuel Lutheran. She blessed us as our church secretary and I ask you to pray that God leads someone to Emanuel that can be one of His faithful servants. Two, if you are a Thrivent member would you please contact me asap. They are giving two, $250 grants per member, to assist ministries Emanuel is involved in. Let s not leave thousands of dollars on the table that could assist us in our mission! Pastor Chris Are you experienced in the disciplines of security? Are you a retired or active Police Officer or First Responder? Do you have a CCW license? We really need to know for everyone s safety. 2 CELEBRATING! Grief Support Group Next Meeting April NOON Social Hall This is the place to be comforted and encouraged by others in similar circumstances. Contact Carol at for more information. It s not too late to get signed up to have your picture taken or retaken on Wednesday, April 18! If you missed the first time or would like a redo, sign up at the Welcome Center or call the Office The new pictures will be added to the Directory while keeping the precious pictures we already have and everyone in the book will receive a new one! Keep on Keeping on! We love all the special knitted and crocheted items that are showing up in the basket at the Welcome Center! These will all go to World Vision s Knit for Kids program. If you don t have time to make something, you can also donate yarn! The goal is 100 items so please keep up the good work! Items and yarn can be placed in the basket in the Lobby. Sunday, May 6 The Wednesday morning Women s Life Discovery Bible Study will be on hiatus after their April 4 meeting. The group will return on September 5! It s been an honor and a privilege to serve at Emanuel and, while I look forward to more time with my grandchildren, I am saddened by the thought of leaving my job here. I will miss you all! How blessed I am to have worked in a place that makes saying goodbye so difficult.
