Ten for Ten: Tithing is One-Tenth By definition, the tithe is one tenth or ten percent of our income which we give voluntarily to God. The tithe is intended to be a guide and a useful benchmark for giving. The tithe is the first ten percent of our income. It is an offering that we give to God before we do anything else with our money. If we give only what we have remaining after meeting our needs and wants, we are giving Him our leftovers. Our Ten for Ten program helps us put God first with our money. DATES TO REMEMBER Ladies and guests of the congregation, please join Zion's LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) for an evening of fellowship, "quilting" (hand tying), and refreshments. A short business meeting for members will follow quilting; non-members may stay to see what LWML is all about. Zion's LWML is participating in Thrivent's Action Team program (#livegenerously), and we will be sharing how easy it is to assemble blankets for missions to help the needy around the world. We also have a limited supply of Thrivent's free "Live Generously" T-shirts. This event will be held on Monday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m. If you are a Thrivent member, we will also show you how easy it is to plan a service project and receive a $250 grant through Thrivent for your project, whether it is for a church or school project, or for the community. Hope to see you there! NEW MEMBER CLASS begins this Sunday, February 10, from 6-8 p.m. in Ministry Room A. If you have any questions, please call ABE will meet Tuesday, February 26, at 5:30 p.m. in Pastor s office. CAB will meet Tuesday, February 26, at 7 p.m. in Ministry Room A.

2 CDSC will meet Monday, February 25, at 6 p.m. in the school library. Psalm 100 begins Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord. On the weekend of February 23, 24, 25 we will have the opportunity to drop loose coins in the cups at the door to call attention to help alleviate Hunger locally and globally by means of the Crop Walk to be completed at Zion Sunday March 31. Pick up donation envelopes at the Welcome Center or from Ed and Alice Engelhardt. Get a few supporters and during the month of March Walk to alleviate Hunger. Drop off your donation envelopes at the church office. Twenty five percent comes back locally to the BCEFPN (Bay County Emergency Food Pantry Network) and is used only for food assistance. INSTALLATION OF BOBBIE JO UPTON as our Music Administrator will take place during our worship services this weekend with a reception to follow each service. LADIES GUILD will be hosting the Wellspring Auxiliary on Monday, February 18, Min. Room A. Refreshments served at 7 p.m. with devotions and meeting at 7:15 p.m. Program: Bottle Auction Fundraiser-call Carol Hutter at with questions. All ladies of the congregation are invited. SHUT IN VISITATIONS will be February 13 and 14. The next TRANSITION TEAM meeting will be Wednesday, February 20, at 6 p.m. The Transition Team member s names are posted on the website, if you have any questions you can ask a member, they will be glad to tell you what has been covered. SCHOOL NEWS Zion School s Facebook page is up and running. The more members that like our page, the farther we can spread the word about the school and church. You can do this by going to Facebook; search for Zion Lutheran School; like the Page. Preschool Round Up night is February 21 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. A light supper will be served. The evening will focus on our preschool and Kindergarten programs.

3 Bottle & Can Drive Our Cheerleading Team is collecting bottles and cans as a fundraiser for their new uniforms. If you'd like to support our girls, please bring your bottles and cans to the South entrance to the school. There's a large collection box next to the door. Thank you for your contributions in advance! SCRIP NEWS Scrip orders are due weekly on Mondays by 4 p.m. at the church office. BABY BOTTLE BOOMERANG: Remember to return your Beacon of Hope baby bottle to Zion by Tuesday, February 12. Donations of any size are welcome. ORPHAN GRAIN TRAIN -MICHIGAN More than 4.6 million Mercy Meals were shipped last year from branches of Orphan Grain Train in addition to clothing, blankets, medical and hospital equipment, and more than 50 other categories of humanitarian goods. Would you like to help the first branch of Orphan Grain Train in Michigan? The new branch is centered at Sebewaing and will soon be launching operations. The 8,000 sq. ft. work and warehouse Center of Orphan Grain Train--Michigan is where donated goods will be received and processed. Half of Orphan Grain Train relief is distributed domestically when crises occur in our country. The other half is distributed world-wide into 67 foreign countries. Creating Confident Caregivers is a six-week FREE program for family

4 caregivers providing at-home care for a loved one with dementia. It uses the Savvy Caregiver program, designed to provide knowledge, skills, and information to improve caregiving. Classes are two hours per week for six weeks. Tuesday mornings: March 5 thru April 9, 10:00 a.m. to Noon -or- Wednesday evenings: April 17 thru May 22, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Advance registration is required.
