1 March 27, 2016 First Presbyterian Church Easter Sunday Glorify. Grow. Mission Statement: We, as the Church, are the Body of Christ equipped through prayer by the Holy Spirit to glorify God; through passionate worship, nurturing fellowship, sacrificial service, respectful evangelism, and active discipleship, we encourage and challenge all ages of our congregation and community to grow in relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ask an usher for a large print bulletin, Bible, or hearing enhancement device. Prayer cards, visitor information cards, and offering envelopes can be found in the pews. Please place them in the offering plate. Preaching: Rev. Rich McDermott Liturgist: Rev. Fred Babb Organist: Arlene Small UTA Brass
2 The Worship of God 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. Words in bold are spoken by the congregation. Invites all who are able to stand. Easter Lilies are given to the glory of God. Dedications on page 5. Gathering Preparation for Worship John Ortberg On the first day of the week the women brought the spices they had prepared but found the stone rolled away and an empty tomb. Two men in dazzling clothes spoke to them: Why do you look for the living among the dead? Welcome Introit Fanfare for Easter Jane Marshall Christ is risen! Alleluia! Now is Christ risen from the dead, and is become the first-fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. Call to Worship Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! This is the day which the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Hymn 248 Christ is Risen! Shout Hosanna! Hymn to Joy Prayer of Confession Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you shattered the power of sin and death. We confess that we remain captive to doubt and fear, bound by the ways that lead to death. We overlook the poor and the hungry, and pass by those who mourn: we are deaf to the cries of the oppressed, and indifferent to calls for peace; we despise the weak, and abuse the earth you made. Forgive us, God of mercy. Help us to trust your power to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the joy of life abundant given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! The Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Passing the Peace Greet those around you with, The peace of Christ be with you. Hymn 232 Jesus Christ is Risen Today Easter Hymn Community Joys and Events 2

The most loving and just and compassionate man who ever lived had been totally betrayed, falsely accused, unjustly tried, brutally beaten, and hung on a cross to die. 3. So whatever it is that happened on that Sunday, the first day of the second week of April in A.D. 30 has proven to have immense and even exponential vitality, and has literally changed the of our planet. 4. Because the Bible says, Then they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not them. 5. Isn t it amazing, in both the Lucan and the Pauline accounts, that there is no fear about stating the objections to believing in Jesus resurrection? Both Luke and Paul s utter confidence in the truth of Christ s resurrection shines straight through their accounts of the. 6. Friends, Christ was indeed raised from the dead, and promises that when we trust and believe in him, he can bring us new life right now, a kingdom life, a new creation life, and that life will not be defeated at the grave but will continue for all. be thy name; Thy king -dom come; Thy will be done on Earth as it is in heav - & Give us this & Lead us & For not day.
