Thou shalt not make unto the any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the lord thy god is a jealous god, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the lord thy god in vain: for the lord will not hold them guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work. But the seventh day is the Sabbath to the lord thy god; in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, not thy maidservant, not thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. 2 Praises To God and prayers Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. Give god thanks for hearing our prayers. Jack Downard: He needs God s protection around him. Judy McCallum: Heath issues. Carolyn Unnewehr: Having problems with her balance. Deanna White: having medical issues. Wynne Skelton: Fell about 13 ft. from his tree stand, hitting his face on the ground. He is healing well. Due to space, his most recent update is posted on our website. Prayer for all of God s people who have been affected by the disasters happening around the world. John Monahan s stepdad & mom: He has dementia and compressed discs in his back. She has cancer. Miriam Ammel: She is at home recovering from her cancer treatment. You can support her at: Virginia Harmon: She has a stage 3 cancer called Adenocarcinoma (non-small cell lung cancer). treatments for the next couple of months. Brenda Hartnett: She is fighting many health issues. She also fell recently. Minnie Lindsay: pray that God will comfort her, strengthen her as she has health problems. Continued prayers and updates Verna Walker: She has been suffering from several health problems. Marlene Brown: She is healing after a recent fall. John Booth: Still having health issues with his feet, and other problems. Faith Ammel: She is very ill. Rachel Bollig: She is still fighting severe breathing problems and is now in a nursing home getting treatment. Larry Deese: He has been battling cancer for several years and has really gone down in the last few months. He is fighting double pneumonia and the prognosis is not encouraging. We were unable to update the new prayer requests due to a problem with our computer system. We are working to correct the problem, and God willing, will be able to share the requests in next month s issue. It is so important that we receive updates on any prayer requests. If we have not received an update within 30days of posting the prayer request, we will remove them from the list believing that their prayers have been answered. Working together to spread the gospel of Jesus, the Christ God s Word vs. Traditions By Stephen Hicks Quite often, brethren choose to hold to traditional teachings, even if they are proven to be wrong according to God s Word. They will stand their ground and hold to tradition rather then to accept what the bible really teaches. Jesus, went against many traditional teachings, as He ministered the truth of God to the people. Let s look at a few of them. Matthew 15:1-9 (KJV) Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. The scribes and Pharisees were questioning Jesus about His disciples breaking the traditional law, established by them. Box 0476 Cagayan de oro city 9000 Philippines As of the printing of this newsletter, we had not received any new communications from Pastor Nestor. Last month Pastor Nestor reported that the work in the Philippines was going very well and that God was blessing the work of their hands and was bringing more people into the family of God. The brethren were working on a new church structure for the Camotes Island church brethren and were working to build another church structure. The students have graduated from the bible training school and are presently working in the field and doing the work of spreading the gospel. The churches there continue to travel, holding services and home bible studies in all of the different locations they visit. Even through typhoons, flooding, and other weather problems, they keep doing the work. As we have written many times, the needs of all of the churches in the Philippines, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya continues to grow as more people are added to the church each week. Please pray for all of our brethren overseas and here in the U.S., because the needs are great everywhere. We, thank all of you for your continued support. Without it, we would not be able to service the needs of all of God s people. May God bless the His churches overseas and here in the U.S. We are unable to post any new pictures from the Philippines due to the main computer crashing and refusing to restart. All of the pictures are on that computer. We are working to get it repaired, but will need to wait until we have funds available. 7

Box 667 Suna-migori Kenya, east Africa Due to constant rain and flooding, many of the brethren in Kenya were not able to attend the Feast of Unleavened Bread this year. Over 3000 were in attendance at the three feast sites and celebrated before God, worshipping and fellowshipping together. They are not preparing to celebrate the Feast of firstfruits/pentecost on the 20th of May. If the rains have stopped by then, there should be a very large turnout. Due to an anonymous gift, we were able to purchase 100 bibles to be given out to the brethren of the churches there. We continue to buy more bibles as we can with the help of all who give. The brethren of Kenya wish to thank everyone for the support that they have provided for food, rent and other needs. The photos on this page were taken during and after services at the Suna-Migori church. The church building is used for the people and visiting guests to come together to worship, fellowship, sing and to enjoy meals. All of the churches continue growing as all of the ministers work hard to spread the gospel of Jesus to all who will listen. Please continue to pray for them all, that God will provide for their needs. Thanks again to everyone for their support of the work there. 8

9 Some of the Pastors working in Kenya Pastor Solomon and the ministers in Nigeria are working hard to share the good news of the coming Kingdom of God. Several other churches have asked to join with them and are requesting that we teach them the truths of God s Word. When we wrote to you in last month s newsletter, we told you about the church structure that had collapsed there. They have worked to collect what they could to start rebuilding it, and you can see the progress in the picture below. Pastor Michael Odima with his daughters with the Church. Thanks to the offerings we had received from the brethren here, we were able to send Pastor Solomon $300 to help with the structure and to buy a few more bibles. Pastor Solomon reported that he had baptized 29 new members in the last few weeks, so the churches in Nigeria continue to grow. If anyone would like to support the work there, please send it to us at the address on this newsletter, and we will see that it gets to them. Mark 7:5-9 (KJV) Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. One of the main reasons that people accept traditional teachings over the truth of the bible, is because they want to be accepted by their piers and don t want to become a outcast. Because of this fear, they continue to walk and even teach contrary to God s Word. By doing so, they are offending Him. Colossians 2:6-10 (KJV) As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: Read the gospels and see how many times Jesus said, I tell you the truth. He spoke the true Words of God, the Father, and He wanted the people to know that they were walking and teaching tradition instead of the truth. By holding to traditional teachings, are you breaking the commandments of God? If it is contrary to what the bible teaches, then yes, you are breaking His law.
