Martin Luther Deacons Meeting The Deacons will meet on Tuesday, April 2. Please pray for our deacons as they continue to seek God s guidance and vision for our church. Missions Board The Missions Board will meet on Thursday, April 4, at 7:00. The agenda will include a review of our goals as well as planning for Solidarity Sunday. John Donne ( ) Ladies-Take-a-Break The Ladies-Take-a-Break will meet on Tuesday, April 2, at 9:30 a.m. to study the very timely topic, The Son is up! based on John 20. This group of women regularly pray for and encourage Andy and Karen Vaters. From time to time, they forward a monetary gift to them as a practical expression of their encouragement and love. It s amazing to learn what a difference our efforts make. On one occasion, Andy and Karen took a $50 gift from these ladies and gave it to a newly married Guatemalan couple. With the money, the couple were able to install a concrete floor in their home rather than just a dirt floor. How nice to know that for years and years, the testimony of the love of a group of Canadian ladies will endure and be evident on the floor of a small home in Guatemala. Thank you, ladies, for your example. Church in Prayer Life Group This group will not meet on April 3; they will resume on April 10. Launch, Explore, and Experience These groups will not meet on April 5; they will resume on April 12. Darrell and Laura Lee Bustin Guardians of Hope Canadian Baptist Ministries began the Guardians of Hope program in 2004.

Help is provided in many ways including education, small business development, innovative farming techniques, health care, spiritual care, and provision for orphans.

3 Darrell and Laura Lee Bustin Guardians of Hope Canadian Baptist Ministries began the Guardians of Hope program in Through this program, Canadian Baptists help churches in Kenya, Rwanda, and India respond to the AIDS pandemic. Help is provided in many ways including education, small business development, innovative farming techniques, health care, spiritual care, and provision for orphans. At a recent Guardians of Hope conference, participants were asked what it means to be a guardian of hope. One replied, We are strengthening others for the hope of the future!. Another said, As Guardians of Hope, we are showing our faith in deeds of love. We care for and visit the sick in their homes, and speak to our communities so that we can prevent the spread of HIV. Darrell and Laura Lee Bustin are our CBM Partners in Mission. They previously worked in Indonesia but are currently living and working in Rwanda. For now, they are immersed in language studies in Kigali. Their daughter, Bronwyn, studies at home. She is preparing to go to university in Canada this coming June. Their son, Caleb, attends school. Along with learning the language, Darrell and Laura Lee are busy with ministry. Darrell recently preached his first sermon in the regular worship service of their local AEBR church (Association of Baptist Churches in Rwanda). His message was about God s unique love. In February, they participated in a Guardians of Hope Leadership Training Conference. Laura Lee led a devotional and Darrell spoke on the integrity of Christian leadership. According to In Rwanda, the Guardians of Hope project stimulates micro-enterprise development through matching grants. Village saving and loan programs enable the groups to save and borrow money to expand their activities and improve the sustainability of their projects. Increased household income of guardians caring for AIDS orphans, as well as those living with HIV, is a central goal of the project. Please pray for Darell and Laura Lee as they try to acquire a new language. Also, please pray for the work of the Guardians of Hope in Rwanda. To learn more about what CBM is doing in Africa and around the world, you can visit their website at Denis and Diane Sherbeck Denis and Diane, the couple we sent to Pakistan as missionaries twenty years ago, are ready to return to Pakistan after an 11 month furlough. However, they do not yet have their visa from the Pakistan government. Therefore, they must defer their return until the visas are provided. Please pray that their visas will be processed and sent quickly. In the meantime, after many speaking engagements and much travel during their furlough, they are tired. As they have an enforced delay, please pray that this will be a time of rest and renewal.

Tozer The St. John s and Area Council of Churches April 12 The St. John s and Area Council of Churches is pleased to announce that Major Jim Champ, President of the Canadian Council of Churches (CCC), will be our guest speaker at this year s Annual General Meeting and Dinner to be held Friday, April 19, 6:00 pm. For the past 10 years, Jim served as the Ecumenical Officer at the Salvation Army Headquarters in Toronto and, during this time, served as a member of the Canadian Council of Churches Governing Board. He is the first Salvation Army Officer to hold the position of President of the CCC. Those who know Jim experience him as an engaging, collegial and well-spoken person. Persons of all denominations will be heartened by his message. The AGM dinner and program will be held at the Salvation Army Mount Pearl Citadel, 135 Ashford Drive, Mount Pearl.
