1 Mid S ou th Round Robin Volume 1, Issue 1 The Buzz In Bible Bowl News in the Mid South November 2009 National Bible Bowl Mission Statement: Bible Bowl creates an atmosphere that enhances knowledge of God s Word, Christian character, community and discipleship. Mid South Website Inside this issue: Crème de la Creme 1 Penny Drive Time 1 National Tournament 2 When I was in high school, I had a delightful friend named Rita. Rita often wore a t-shirt that had a saying: Crème de la Crème!. To my understanding that meant cream of the cream or best of the best. Rita always hoped to live up to that ideal and it didn t escape my imagination totally either. As parents, we are admonished via scripture to bring up a child in the way he should go. While that takes on different meanings for each of us, Crème de la Crème by Janice Higdon the general concept is to do the best you can/should for the children with whom you have been entrusted. Parents in today s culture have a zillion avenues to consider when approaching this task. So often, we are not faced with a good or bad choice for our children, but a good and best choice. For our family and most likely for yours (since you are reading this Buzz-In), Bible Bowl falls into the best category providing a fun, challenging and accountable way to incorporate the vital discipline of Penny Drive Time scripture memory into the lives of our kids. The investment of a daily decision to incorporate this habit into the lives of our children is based on the hope and promise that God s Word does not return void. Our prayer as parents is that it not only goes into their heads, but springs to life in their actions and thoughts- impacting multiple generations to come. May they go forth and yield fruit becoming the children of God- crème de la crème. Mid South needs your help to collect as many pennies as we can for National Bible Bowl. The goal nationwide is $12,000. National Bible Bowl is awarding 4 prizes to the top 4 averaging round robins. Here are the four prizes: New Electronic Buzzer Board 1 Team Registration to Nationals 4 Individual Player Registrations to Nationals 2 guest rooms at Nationals at $75/ night for up to 6 nights per room So check your pockets, your penny jar, floor mats, couch cushions or wherever your pennies are hiding and bring them with you to our November meet!

2 PAGE 2 THE BUZZ IN VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1 National Tournament Update This summer, the National Bible Bowl Tournament will be held in two different locations at two different times. The 2010 Beginner Bowl National Tournament will be held in Cincinnati, OH on June 13 June 15. The Sheraton North/CoCo Key Water Resort will be the venue this year. Rooms are just $75 a night and tickets to the adjacent CoCo Key Water Resort will be $12 a piece. The 2010 Bible Bowl National Tournament will be held in Denver, CO on July 1 5. The Sheraton in Downtown Denver will be the site. The contract with the Sheraton in Denver had to be renegotiated and there was not enough room to host both the Beginner Bowl and Bible Bowl tournaments. Thus, the decision was made to have two venues for the 2010 National Tournament. For further information, go to the Bible Bowl website. New Bible Bowl Rule Highlights Here are some highlights from the most recent Board of Directors announcements: Instead of 2 Category and 2 Word Game questions per round, it is now 4 of either Category or Word Game questions per round. 1 General tossup in each round will have an explicit Memory Verse reference before the actual question. So if you study up on the Memory Verses and references, you could get a quick buzz in each round just off the verse reference alone sweet! Of course the other team may be working on their Memory Verse references as well. This will be study tips from Bible Bowlers in our own round robin. This month we have some tips from Shanan. Stephanie Higdon is a fan of Study pro. She says, Study-pro helps me learn keywords. Sometimes I play the keyword test until I m sick, but it s totally worth it. It must work pretty well because Stephanie scored a perfect 150 on last month s test. Another team member of Shanan, Philip Winn, uses the following approach to learn the text. I memorize one verse at a time. Then I read it over and over again until I can quote it perfectly. After I have finished memorizing a large group of verses, I try to quote it all to myself. If can t quote it, I re-read it many times until I can. Sometimes I play the keyword test until I m sick, but it s totally worth it. Stephanie Higdon Lisa Higdon shares that on Study-pro, you can hone your keyword recognition with the keyword test, or work on where keywords come from. In Crush em, you can even try to pick out the keywords out of a bunch of random words in the feature known as Catch em. Quiz-pro is the most effective way for me to study and review my text. Lisa was able to increase her test score by thirty points more than her average last year as a result of fifteen minutes of Quiz-Pro every morning. QUIZ PRO LINK!
