1 PROGRAM PURPOSE: Purpose Statement: CU LEAD exists to equip and inspire leaders to be exceptional in all areas of life. Through the exploration of a Biblical definition of leadership, leaders will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to implement positive change through effective stewardship, influence, and service. Explore o Biblical definition of leadership o The individual s leadership blueprint o The individual s passions and goals Equip o Knowledge o Skills Inspire o Established leaders sharing their personal stories o Opportunities for involvement and service o Through leadership development and coaching Key Scripture: Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (English Standard Version) o In the same way Christ followers are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14) Christ followers are a city on a hill (Matthew 5:14) Christ followers must not hide their light. (Matthew 5:15) Christ followers must put their light on a stand for the world to see. (Matthew 5:15) o Let your light shine before others Christ followers are God s light to the world o May see your good works People will see God s light, the gospel, through the works of Christ followers I Corinthians 11:1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 2 PROGRAM PROCEDURE: Leadership Defined: I Corinthians 4:16 Philippians 3:17 Philippians 4:9 o As I am of Christ Christ is the example for Christ Followers Leadership is the stewardship of one s God-given gifts, abilities, and opportunities. Leaders seek to influence and serve others. Stewardship o God created everything (Genesis 1) o God provides everything (James 1) o Opportunities are given by others and the goal must be to serve others Influence o Leadership is influence and not based on a position or title o Imitate Christ (I Corinthians 11:1) Service o Servant leadership takes personal discipline in order to serve others (Philippians 2) o Service must be our default action (John 13) Student Learning Outcomes Cedarville students, who go through this program, will know their strengths and weaknesses and will be servant leaders by living consistent lives, demonstrating competence and earning an audience which produces influence in the lives of others Cedarville students and guests who go through this program will be able to define leadership as stewardship, influence, and service Cedarville students, who go through this program, will be given opportunities to develop and grow their leadership skills and resume CU LEADership Conference Main/Plenary Session o Purpose: To explore a Biblical definition of leadership P a g e 2
3 To equip and inspire leaders to be able to recognize stewardship, influence, and service in their leadership and in the leadership of others To reflect on their leadership journey and respond to how God is challenging them to lead and live o Three year master plan for main/plenary sessions. Year One Leadership Questions Why Lead? What is Biblical Leadership? How do I lead? Year Two Leadership Key Words Stewardship Influence Service Year Three Guest Speaker Breakout Sessions o Purpose: To explore a Biblical definition of leadership through the discussion of specific topics To equip leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead To inspire leaders to be exceptional in all areas of life o Breakout Session Categories: Stewardship All of our gifts, abilities, and opportunities are given to us by God. Every opportunity we will ever have will be given by God through others. We are just stewards (Matthew 25:14-30) Influence Leadership is not based upon a position or title but on the influence we have with others (Matthew 5:16) Service Leadership must not be about power and prestige but humility and service. Service must be our default action. (John 13) o Breakout Session Tracks Descriptions: CU LEAD 101 This track is designed to introduce and discuss the question of why Biblical leadership is important and needed. CU LEAD 101 is designed for juniors and seniors in high school. CU LEAD 201 This track will review the question of why Biblical leadership is needed and then introduce and discuss the question of what Biblical leadership requires and demands. CU LEAD 201 is designed for Cedarville University students who are interested in serving in a student leadership position through Cedarville University. P a g e 3
4 CU LEAD CU LEAD 301 This track will review the questions of why Biblical leadership is needed and what Biblical leadership requires and demands. CU LEAD 301 will introduce and discuss how Biblical leadership can be personally applied to the individual s leadership journey. Purpose: o To educate, equip, and encourage student leaders of Cedarville University with a review of the Biblical definition of leadership (Stewardship, Influence, Service) o To gather the students serving in leadership positions for the upcoming school year for a time of prayer, challenge, review, and encouragement CU LEAD Social Media Purpose: o To educate, challenge, encourage, and inspire leaders with a Biblical definition of leadership (Stewardship, Influence, Service) through pictures, quotes, videos, and graphics o To highlight scripture that speaks on stewardship, influence, and service through pictures and quotes Social Media Platforms: o Facebook facebook.com/culead.ville o Twitter _LEAD Involvement Fair Purpose: o To connect students with co-curricular opportunities to practice Biblical leadership (Stewardship, Influence, Service) in churches, ministries, and student organizations approved by the Student Life and Christian Ministries Division. o To provide students organizations, ministries, and churches the venue to share their involvement opportunities. o To foster a campus culture of active and intentional involvement.
