2 OUR AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God, the maker of Heaven and Earth, the ruler and preserver of our lives. I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, my Lord, and Savior. I believe in the Holy Spirit, who proceeded from the Father and Son, who is the giver of life. I believe in the Bible, the Universal Church, Holy Baptism, and the Lord s Supper. I believe in the Resurrection of the dead and life in the world to come. RESPONSIVE READING By Grace Through Faith Ephesians 2:4-10 (NKJV) LEADER: 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, CONGREGATION : 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), LEADER: 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, CONGREGATION: 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. LEADER: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. CONGREGATION: 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. LEADER: The Word of God, for the People of God ALL: GLORY BE TO GOD! BENEDICTION Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow; Praise Him, All Creatures Here Below; Praise Him Above, Ye Heavenly Host Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

4 *SUNDAY, JANUARY 22, 2017* CATCH THE VISION, FULFILL THE MISSION, MAKE THE TRANSITION MT. VERNON BAPTIST CHURCH-WESTWOOD A PLACE WHERE JESUS IS LORD, EVERYONE IS LOVED, AND NO ONE STANDS ALONE THE MEMBERSHIP EMPOWERMENT CORNER Being A Joyful Church Member Have you ever seen a grumpy church member? Grumpy church members tend to complain about everything that the church is doing. They are constant critics of the pastor and staff. They view the church as an organization where they pay their dues to get their privileges, and they are grumpy when they don t. Chances are you ve met a grumpy church member. We all should recognize that no church is perfect and certainly not Mount Vernon Baptist Church. We are aiming to be the best that we can be. I am proud of who we are and where we are headed as a church family. While we recognize the imperfection of all churches, we should not allow that to keep us from being JOYFUL CHURCH MEMBERS. Being a joyful church member is a matter of attitude and perspective. A joyful church member: 1. Counts it a blessing and a gift to be part of God s Christian Family. 2. Is grateful for the freedom to serve God. 3. Does not nitpick and look to find fault. 4. Arrives on Sunday to share in the worship experience instead of grade the worship experience. 5. Encourages others to be Joyful Church Members. 6. Freely gives of their time, talent, and treasure. The Bible says to the Church in Philippians 4:4, Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I say, rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. Let us commit to being Joyful Church Members and make our church a better place to worship Jesus Christ, grow spiritually in the Word of God, and enjoy the fellowship of other believers. Mount Vernon Baptist Church-Westwood Our Mission The Mount Vernon Baptist Church- Westwood exists to honor God in all that we do, proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and live by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our Vision Our vision is to be a unified church, passionate in worship, devoted to Jesus Christ, and committed to changing the world. Our Main Objective We will accomplish our mission; see our vision by providing effective, creative, and nurturing ministries which meet the needs of all that the Lord sends to us. Motto A Place Where Jesus is Lord, Everyone Is Loved, and No One Stands Alone
