Tiger Tales by Ok, here it is!!!! The first listing of events and show information of our annual show, The 15th Annual Indian Uprising All Pontiac Car Show. And boy do we have events. This year we have not one, not two, but FOUR very special guests. If you ever wanted an autograph or a picture with Linda (Miss Hurst) Vaughn, Jim Wangers, our very own Arnie Beswick, or if you ve wanted to talk to Ken Crocie of HO Racing about engine building or suspensions, this is your best chance. After the tremendous growth the show experience last summer, this years show is expected to be the biggest event of the summer. With over three hundred poncho s expected, the plan is to fill The Kane County Events Center to the brim with Pontiacs, swap vendors, special guests & attractions and lots of food. You don't want to miss this one. If you remember last year, the show shattered all records with attendance. With over 275 cars on the show field and an estimated two thousand spectators, everyone had a great time. With the help of our major sponsors and our membership, the show generated a record $6400 that was donated to The Marklund Charities. And what about awards. Last year over 110 awards were presented to the cars with the most votes. These votes were counted in minutes by a vote tabulation machine for complete accuracy that will be back again this year. The best live DJ in the mid-west, 3-D Sound will be returning again this year with two trucks to play tunes and keep everyone informed of the events of the day. Coming soon, this newsletter will include a show flyer. This can be used as a pre-registration form that we ask you to return if you are planning on attending the show. Not only does it get you on the show field quickly but it also helps the show planning committee to know how much space they need to reserve with The Kane County Events Center. It also helps the committee plan events and attractions when they can get a better guess as to how many people will attend. In a few short days we ll have our first club meeting of the year. Turnout is usually pretty big since we haven't had one since November. Don t forget the You cant win fund currently stands at $ The tin can will surely hit six hundred this month. Remember: You can t win if you don t attend!!!!!!!! One more thing, in the next couple of months, the staff here at Tiger news has a big surprise for the Cruisin Tiger membership. Watch those mailboxes!!!!!!!! Paul Proud to be the largest chapter of The GTOAA Pg. 3
Hello to everyone, President s Page by Steve Lucas As of this writing the By-laws Committee, headed by Joe Panico, are hard at work reviewing and making the necessary changes/additions, where needed, to our Chapter By-laws. Hopefully, they ll be ready to present a finished set of By-laws to the membership for a vote of approval in the near future. Enclosed in this newsletter is a flyer for the 14 th Annual Buick-Olds- Pontiac & Cadillac Swap meet & Car Corral. This year the event is sponsored by the Illinois Valley Olds Chapter (IVOC). They decided to move the swap meet to a new/larger location-bridgeview Sports Dome. If you ve been to the last couple BOP Swap Meets, either as a vendor or buyer/browser, you know it gets pretty crowded. This new location, I ve been told, has plenty of room and you ll be walking on astro turf. People who aren t used to standing on their feet for long periods will appreciate that. Rich Barnas, President of IVOC, thought it was time to make the move to a larger location. If the new location doesn t work out, the event goes back to Dupage County Fair Grounds. Rich & I go way back starting at High School. We both served an apprenticeship with the Iron Workers Local 63 in Chicago. Back then it was farthest from our thoughts of ever being a President a car club three decades later. And the irony about this is, back in the early 70s, Rich owned a 72 LeMans Sport Coupe and I had a ! Paul Weinstein and I are asking for help with supplying content for the TIGER NEWS. Specifically, we re looking for Tech articles to put in the newsletter. A lot of you guys work on your GTO(s) and may have some tips or helpful hints you d like to share with the membership. Members who have been with the club for a long period of time will remember Tech Tips and Helpful Hints in the newsletters. I d like to start this up again. I m asking for a member to volunteer for the Staff position as Tech Editor. His/her job would be collecting material/articles for the newsletter. Anyone who has a Tech Tip or Helpful Hint would send it to the Tech Editor for publication in the newsletter, giving credit to the author. Articles taken from other publications would require permission from publication and/or from the guy who wrote the article. This is done quite often. Usually the author appreciates the extra recognition it gives him. We have a Top Shelf newsletter and we d like to keep it that way. It won t happen if content of TIGER NEWS gets stale or boring. Paul s Pg. 4 cruisintigersgto.com
President s Page by Steve Lucas doing a great job as Editor but he can always use help with content of the newsletter. It shouldn t be a one man job. Famous Editors such as Senior Contributing Editor, Paul Zazarine, of MUSCULE CAR ENTHUSI- AST has a panel of Contributing Editors to help him with content for the magazine. Our famous Editor, Paul Weinstein, needs Contributing Editors. The Indian Uprising All Pontiac car Show Committee will be getting together again to make plans for our car show in August. If you want to be part of this committee, Call Show Chairman Rick Last at or at rickbettylast@yahoo.com. The Committee usually will meet each month an hour or two before the Chapter meeting at Mr. Beef & Pizza. Mark your calendars: Sunday, April 3 rd, The 14 th Annual Buick-Olds-Pontiac-Cadillac (B.O.P.C.) Swap meet will be sponsored this year by the Illinois Valley Olds Chapter. (I.V.O.C.) 10 The 2004 Indian Uprisng makes national coverage in the March / April edition of Pontiac Enthusiast. After a few conversations with Barry Kluczyk (editor), the magazine was kind enough to include the clubs show with a feature they called Car Show Round Up. This included pictures of cars in four shows around the country from One notable picture was of our very own John Skwirblies with not only a picture in the article, but on the inside cover! On behalf on the entire club, we d like to thank Barry for the kind words that were written about The Cruisin Tigers and The Uprising. To a club that is really trying to grow our show into a large event, it meant a lot. Thanks again!!!!!! Paul Pontiac Enthusiast Pg. 10 cruisintigersgto.com

BOD Meeting Minutes By Ken Smith Due to the amount of subject matter on the agenda for the 2005 Cruisin Tigers Board of Directors (BOD) annual meeting, it was rescheduled to start earlier than originally planned. At 2:00 PM on February 5 th the meeting commenced. The Directors (Jim Stern, Mike Lannom, John Skwirblies, Rick Last, Doug Mecklenburg) were present, Doug Rudisuhle arrived at 4:00 PM and Mark Holnicker was absent. Also in attendance were President Steve Lucas, Secretary Ken Smith, Treasurer John Campbell (arrived at 3:00 PM) and Tiger News Editor Paul Weinstein. Joe Panico, Randy Ray, Ric Murphy and Bob Zeiger represented the By-Laws committee. For future reference any currently active Cruisin Tiger member can attend the first hour of the BOD meeting to discuss any club related issues. After that timeframe it becomes a closed meeting for only Directors and officers of the club. There were five items on the agenda: Review Chapter By-Laws as presented by the committee Approve 2004 Financial Report Discuss 2005 Purchases & Expenses 2005 Indian Uprising Car Show Tiger News Everyone is aware of the Herculian task that Steve Lucas handed the By-Laws committee. The 8-page document that the BOD reviewed with the committee over the next 3 hours and 40 minutes showed the level of detail that is required to get an understandable and enforceable set of club rules. Bob took the minutes of this portion of the meeting, so that any adjustments to the by-laws can go back to committee. At the end of the by-laws review Joe Panico made a motion that the document should go back into committee and he will advise the President and Board of Directors when we will get back together to further review the revised Club by-laws. This motion passed. For some, perhaps silly, reason I can not get the picture of a family on a road trip, with a child in the back seat repeatedly asking are we there yet, out of my mind. The answer, then and now, is not yet but soon. After allowing the committee to leave and a soft drink and bathroom break for those remaining, the meeting continued into the 2004 Treasurer s Financial Report review. Due to the software that Jim Stern installed on the club computer that Treasurer John Campbell is using to keep our books, it was acknowledged that the 2004 report Pg. 12 cruisintigersgto.com
BOD Meeting Minutes was much clearer to understand than previous years reports. Major categories include: Club Apparel, Car Show, General, Tiger News, Web Site and Banking & Professional Fees. After some discussion on which category the club dues should be in, it was agreed that they should remain in General Income and offset Non-Show Charity Donation, Membership Entertainment Expense (Christmas Party) and Printing & Postage. The report showed a positive cash flow for 2004 and was unanimously approved. Board directors were concerned that Mark was not in attendance and could not be contacted by phone or . They requested that I send him a letter to get his current status. The next topic was Purchases and Expenses for Arnie s twopiece fire suit that the club originally purchased in November of 2003 for Arnie s drag racing return was returned to the supplier for credit (since Arnie really wanted a safer one-piece fire suit). There was discussion that Arnie was already getting his new fire suit through another source. After Steve called Arnie and found that this rumor was not true, Rick said that he would work with Arnie in acquiring the new suit. Note: the onepiece suit is more expensive, but we promised Arnie (at the club meeting in Novermber 2003) that he could exchange the original suit for anything he prefers colors, styles, etc. The Board understands that a driver has to feel comfortable with his equipment and this suit is a major piece of safety equipment. The Board unanimously approved this purchase. There was discussion afterwards concerning getting the Cruisin Tigers logo on the back of this suit and possibly on Arnie s new car. Rick will ask. Jim Stern identified another future purchase as a projector for club meetings and events, but he did not recommend this item for immediate purchase. Paul Weinstein, our Tiger News Editor, said that he might have to upgrade the Club owned Microsoft Publisher software at a cost of less than $200. Approval was granted to proceed if Paul found this to be necessary. Steve was given approval to purchase a lightweight Santa suit before the 2005 Christmas party at a cost of $ (Apparently, Santa was losing a great deal of body moisture while attending our party and almost didn t make it back to the North Pole). Budgeting for 2005 income and expenses will be discussed at a later date. The Christmas party location for 2005 will be at the same location as the 2004 party and it will be paid from the club treasury (as it has been in recent years). Proud to be the largest chapter of The GTOAA Pg. 13
Next on the agenda was a discussion on the 2005 Indian Uprising. Rick Bogoff has expressed an interest in joining this year s car show committee. The event will be held at Kane County Events Center on August 14 th (with a rain date of August 28 th ). The site cost has increased $50 and there will be an additional expense for electricity of $100. John presented Rick with a check for $600 to secure this location. There are four celebrities that will attend this event (Arnie Beswick, Ken Crocie, Linda Vaughn and Jim Wangers). Rick identified additional expenses that will be needed to secure these individuals (for flights or hotel accommodations), but felt sure that the additional income will more than cover the cost. 3-D Sound and vendors (Kent s Ice Cream & Uncle Bub s) have contracts for this event. Doug will have a roach coach available early. It was decided that a $5000 cap would be in place for the primary charity (that will be decided on at a later date). Any additional contributions will benefit another charity (possibly around Christmas time). Also the Kane County employees will be available prior to our arrival this year to avoid set-up delays. Paul Weinstein found a new printer for our Tiger News. Jim Stern told us the only way this printer would extend a line of credit to us was if Paul would offer his personal credit card in guarantee of payment (apparently our Club has little or no credit history). Jim mentioned this only because he thought Paul deserved recognition for having made this personal commitment on behalf of our Club. Tiger News will be delivered in a new format early this year. Color covers vs. full black & white printing options were also discussed. Due to the increased cost of color printing, the ad revenue would need to be increased. Jim made a motion that we proceed with the new publication format, in black & white, and take up the discussion of color printing at a later date. Because the cost of going to the new format was relatively small, this motion was approved. With a great deal of satisfaction the meeting ended at 7:25 P.M. Whew! 15 Member Input is Needed A few months ago a new committee was formed to review the club by-laws. This committee, which is headed by member Joe Panico, is made up of several members that have volunteered their time to review possible amendments to the clubs constitution. These amendments will be voted on by the membership at a later date. Joe has asked for input from the membership as well. If you have anything that you would like the committee to consider in its review, please Joe at jpanicofamily@aol.com. The Uprising Committee is about to form again this year. The first meeting will be at 2:00 Saturday February 19th (two hours before the regular club meeting at Mr. Beef) We are looking for a few more dedicated members who would like to help form this years show. Please call me if you are interested Rick Last -Show Chairman (630) Donation of you time is time well spent. The more input the club gets from its membership not only makes the club stronger, but makes the club more valuable. GET INVOLVED IN YOUR CLUB Proud to be the largest chapter of The GTOAA Pg. 15
Tameless Tiger In the Making For those of you who are regular visitors to the club website, these pictures are nothing new. I thought I would post a few of the pictures from the website of Arnie s car getting ready for paint for those of you who are not avid web surfers. After Arnies accident nearly a year and a half ago, owners and long time friends of Arnie, Jim Martino and Rick Last made a long standing offer to paint The Tameless Tiger for free once the car was ready. The pictures were taken at Best of Show Restorations about a month ago, so I am sure the car is further along buy now, but this is a very strong indication that you might see Arnie running down the quarter mile sometime this summer...paul Pg. 16 cruisintigersgto.com
