Roy Matlock The Monthly Mission Messenger Volume II, No. 22 June 2016 Roy Matlock Ministries The Messenger is free for those who love to study God s Word. The Messenger is supported by free love offerings from those who wish to help spread the Word. May God Bless You. My friends, Please send this link to all your contacts. The Monthly Mission Messenger is available on site with all other materials written by Pastor Matlock. NEW BEGINNINGS On June 18th, about the time you get your June issue of the MMM, your editor will be saying I do as I take a new bride, pictured below. Her name is Patricia (Pat) Staton. Most of you will remember that I lost my wife in I have lived alone since then. I knew Pat and her husband back in our earlier Christian life. We went to the same church at that time. She lost her husband several years back and has lived alone since then. We just saw each other one Sunday night when I was visiting her church. I later called her and asked her out to dinner so we could reminisce days gone by. We enjoyed the visit so much that we continued seeing each other for about nine months and by then we both knew that our coming together at this time was no accident. We both trust that we have some good years left in this life and it is so sad to live alone. We love each other and plan to spend the rest of our lives together. Our wedding is planned for 11:00 AM, Sat. June 18th. We invite our friends to rejoice with us and remember us in prayer as we embark upon this new adventure in our lives. I will be retiring from pastoral work at this time but I have a very active writing ministry through the writing and production of the Monthly Mission Messenger. Also, through the Internet web page (Address on page 7). I will also continue teaching in our local church as I continue writing study guides and possibly other commentaries. I will continue in this type ministry, as well as filling in as alternate speaker wherever the Lord leads, as long as my physical and mental ability allows. May God bless all of you who rejoice with me in this new venture in my life and who study and worship with me in this ministry. 1

A BIBLICAL CHRONOLOGY OF MAN In our previous studies we covered the time-period when the Israelites were taken captive by King Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians. In chronological order we covered the time period from Adam to the Exodus. We found the Exodus to be 2513 Post Adam. In 1 Kings 6:1 we found the time from the Exodus to the beginning of the reign of King Solomon to be at 2989 P.A. We then followed the dates of all the kings of Judah to the fall of the southern kingdom in 3430 P.A. Those of you who are studying with us on this subject are encouraged to file your copy of the MMM each month for future studies. You can print it out from our web page for other copies if you desire. ( After following the time-period from Adam to the fall of Israel we began a verse by verse study of the book of Daniel. We will pick up this month in chapter three. Daniel Chapter Three (3) V,1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and its width six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. We don t know what the image resembled. One cubit = 18 inches or one and one half feet. One score = 20. Therefore, threescore cubits = ninety (90) feet tall. Six cubits = nine (9) feet wide. We don t know how thick it was. That was a lot of gold. We don t know how long it was from the time that the king had his dream of the great image representing the world empires until he set up the image described here. V,2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the administrators, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. Understand that He was king over the known inhabited world. Therefore, he called his leaders from all provinces everywhere to Babylon to the dedication of his image. V,3-5 Then the satraps, the administrators, and governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4Then a herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, 5That at what time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up: On the day of the dedication all the leaders of all provinces everywhere were gathered before the image. At the dedication the law was given to all people that at the sound of music they fall down and worship the image. The people in distant provinces had never seen the image but they were to fall down and worship an imaginary god when they heard the music. (Suggestion: There may have been pictures of it drawn and sent to all provinces). V,6 And whosoever falls not down and worships shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. It was a national crime to refuse to fall down and worship. The same sentence was prescribed for all offenders. They were to be thrown in alive and burnt in the furnace of fire. The true God has a law somewhat like that if you don t believe in and worship Jesus. When you believe in Jesus your name is written down in the Lamb s Book of Life. As John, in the book of 2

Revelation describes the holy city, he states that those are the ones who will enter that city. Rev. 21:27 And there shall in no way enter into it anything that defiles, neither whatsoever works abomination, or makes a lie: but they who are written in the Lamb's book of life. At the final judgment it will be checked to see if your name is there. Rev. 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. V,7 Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. (A one world religion) Music is an international language, and in its written form and sound, is understood worldwide. When this music sounded the people everywhere fell down and worshiped the image for fear of the prescribed punishment. V,8-12 Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. 9They spoke and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live forever. 10You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image: 11And whosoever falls not down and worships, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded you: they serve not your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up. All of God s people everywhere and at all times should be dedicated to Him and Him alone. When the laws of man are contrary to the laws of God, all God fearing people should take their stand for the true God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were Jews and worshipers of the true God. They refused to obey the king s order to worship a false god. Therefore, the other leaders, who were no doubt very jealous of them, reported to the king their disobedience. V,13-14 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. 14Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do you not serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? The king liked these three men because of their wisdom and ability. He had placed them in positions of honor in his kingdom along with Daniel. You can rest assured that Daniel did not worship the image either. He is just not mentioned in this case. Regardless of his honor for these men it outraged the king that they would disobey his orders. V,15 Now if you are ready that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if you worship not, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? The king gives them another chance. He warns them that if they do not obey, the sentence will be carried out on them. He challenges them that their God can t deliver them from his hand. V,16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 3

18But if not, be it known unto you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were not frightened by the king. They gave him a definite answer that they would not worship any of his gods. V,19-20 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his appearance was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. 20And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Their answer angered the king so much that he commanded to heat the furnace seven times hotter than normal. He commanded the greatest warriors he had to do the job of carrying out the sentence. (Makes me wonder if he really was afraid that their God would deliver them). V,21-23 Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, and their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 22 Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. When he saw his best warriors die from the extreme heat, wonder what he thought? We don t know how much time passed before the king took a look at the furnace. V,24-25 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said unto his counselors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. 25He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods. When the fire cooled down the king looked in and was astonished at what he saw. Not only three men, but four. The fourth one looks like the son of God. (Different translations) V,26-27 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spoke, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the most high God, come forth, and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth out of the midst of the fire. 27And the satraps, administrators, and governors, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was a hair of their head singed, neither were their coats affected, nor had the smell of fire come upon them. The first thing the king recognized was that the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego was able to deliver them from the fire. When they walked out, all of the king s leaders saw them. When they went back to their hometowns they had a great story to tell about a God different from the one the king had called them to come and worship. V,28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Nebuchadnezzar recognized that these three Jews had a powerful God. After all that Nebuchadnezzar had experienced about the God of the Jews, It seems he would have accepted Him as his God but that was not the case as we shall find out further on V,29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, who speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, 4

and their houses shall be made an ash heap: because there is no other God that can deliver in this way. This is really strange. Nebuchadnezzar acknowledges that the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego can do what no other god can do. He pronounces death to anyone who says anything amiss against their God. Yet he does not turn to Him. Somewhat like Mohammad. Their god Allah can t do anything, yet they have their sharia law that says if anyone says anything about their god he must be killed. The good thing about that is their law is not sanctioned by America. V,30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon. The stand that they took no doubt caused the king to honor these men more than he had before. He gave them a promotion in his kingdom. (Chapter 4 next month) * * * * * * * BIBLE QUIZ FOR THIS MONTH Give the scripture that tells how long from the time God promise Abraham that He would give land of Canaan to his descendents to the Law of Moses., it was Yrs. Answer to last month s quiz: Genesis 46:27 And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were three score and ten. Acts 7:14 Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls. Moses said there were 70 people who were descendents of Jacob who came into Egypt. Moses is writing by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. There could be no error in his statement. 2 Tim. 3:16-17 Stephen spoke the words in Acts 7:14. Luke wrote them by inspiration of the same Holy Spirit that inspired Moses. There can be no mistake here. But their number is different. Why? QUESTION: WHY IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN THE NUMBER WRITTEN BY THESE TWO MEN OF GOD? A detailed posting of all the scriptures relating to this question is quite extensive. But I suppose it is a good Bible study. We will look at it in detail. ISRAEL S TRIP TO EGYPT Gen. 46:27 Acts. 7:14 Genesis 46:27 And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were three score and ten. Acts 7:14 Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls. ANSWER: We must notice intently what is written. We won t have room to print all the scriptures. We will list them but you must read them if you make this study. In Genesis 46:1-27 we note FIVE (5) facts. 1. He took all that he had v-1. v, 1. And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac. 2. He took his sons, their little ones and their wives. v,5. And Jacob rose up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. v,6. And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, 3. He took his sons sons, his daughters, his sons daughters and all his descendents. This indicates that Jacob had some daughters. It is in the plural form. However, there is only one daughter named in the Bible, Dinah. (Gen. 30:21, 34:1-31). We know that he had 12 sons. At the time of their going down into Egypt, these 12 sons were married. However, some of their wives were dead at that time. Some of them are not mentioned but it does mention their wives who went down into Egypt. 5

At that time Jacob had grandsons and granddaughters. v,7. His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all his descendants brought he with him into Egypt. 4. We note that all his sons and grandsons are named. 5. Those numbered are his direct offspring. (This is the key to our answer). Gen. 46:26 All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, who were his direct offspring, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were three score and ten; v,27 And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were three score and ten. The names of Jacob s sons will be underlined and numbered. v,8. And these are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: We will number all who went to Egypt. HIS SONS ARE: Reuben & his sons (1). Reuben, 1 Jacob's firstborn. (2). Hanoch, and (3). Pallu, and (4). Hezron, and (5). Carmi.. = 5 Simeon & his sons (6). Simeon; 2 (7). Jemuel, and (8). Jamin, and (9). Ohad, and (10). Jachin, and (11). Zohar, and (12). Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman. +7 = 12 Levi & his sons (13). Levi; 3 (14). Gershon, (15). Kohath, and (16). Merari. +4 =16 Judah & his sons (17). Judah; Er, and Onan, - but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan V,12. (18). Shelah, and (19). Perez, and (20). Zarah. And the sons of Perez were (Jacob s grandsons) (21). Hezron and (22). Hamul. Jacob s great-grandsons =22 Issachar & his sons (23). Issachar; 5 (24). Tola, and (25). Phuvah, and (26). Job, and (Not Job of the Book of Job.) (27). Shimron +5.. =27 Zebulun & his sons (28). Zebulun; 6 (29).Sered, and (30). Elon, and (31). Jahleel. (32). Dinah - the daughter +5 =32 These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore unto Jacob in Paddanaram, with his daughter Dinah: all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three. Add Jacob himself.. =1 =33 Gad & his sons (34). Gad; 7 (35). Ziphion, and (36). Haggi, (37). Shuni, and (38). Ezbon, (39). Eri, and (40). Arodi, and (41). Areli =41 Asher & his sons (42). Heber, and 6

(49). Malchiel. +8 =49 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bore unto Jacob, even sixteen souls (8 for Gad & 8 for Asher) = 49 Joseph & his sons (and his wife, already in Egypt) (50) Joseph 9 (51). Manasseh and (52). Ephraim, Jacob s grandsons +3 =52 Benjamin & his sons (53). Benjamin 10 (54). Belah, and (55). Becher, and (56). Ashbel, (57). Gera, and (58). Naaman, (59). Ehi, and (60). Rosh, (61). Muppim, and (62). Huppim, and (63). Ard.. +11= 63 These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen. But Joseph and his two sons were already in Egypt. -3=11 Dan & his sons (64). Dan; 11 (65). Hushim = 65 Naphtali & sons (66). Naphtali; 12 (67). Jahzeel, and (68). Guni, and (69). Jezer, and (70). Shillem. +5 = 70 These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bore these unto Jacob: all the souls were seven = 75 THESE ARE THE 70 OF GENESIS 46:27. And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were three score and ten v,27. The wives married to Jacob s sons were not of his blood and were not counted. Of necessity there had to be five of them who were still alive at the time of the trip to complete the number 75 as recorded in Acts 7:14. Help Spread the Word. THE MOST POWERFUL FOUR BIBLE DOCTRINES There are certain fundamental P doctrines taught in the Bible that are very important and should be known by all believers. This study covers the four most important doctrines for mankind to know in order to have perfect peace with God. MIRACLES AND TONGUES These teachings go into deep detail about what the Bible teaches on these subjects. They give the Old Testament prophecies concerning them and the New Testament fulfillment of them. There is much confusion in religious circles today about these subjects. A good Bible knowledge about them will remove such confusion. MY JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE Roy Matlock This will begin when and where I was born and covers the highlights of my life.
