1 March 30, 2014 Noah s Ark Possible? According to the Bible, Noah s ark was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. It was built of a type of wood called gopher wood. This may have been laminated wood, but it was wood. However, skeptics claim that even today wooden boats cannot be made that large simply because wood is not strong enough to endure the huge stresses generated by such a large structure; they say only iron can endure these stresses. That is, of course, not true. Ancient writers tell us of a sea battle in 280 b.c. in which the Leontifera participated. They describe the Leontifera in some detail. They tell us that she carried 1,600 rowers and 1,200 additional fighting men. From these and other details, the Leontifera has been estimated to have been between 400 and 500 feet long. Plutarch tells us of another ship built around 294 b.c. that had twice as many banks of oars as the Leontifera. In the late third century b.c., Ptolemy Philopator built a ship that took 400 sailors to run, in addition to 4,000 rowers. With additional soldiers on board, the ship carried 7,250 men. This battleship was 420 feet long, wider than Noah s ark, and about the same height. When one becomes a Christian they are taken from the world (darkness) and placed into the kingdom of light (Col. 1:13; 1 Pet. 2:9). Spiritually speaking, those in darkness are not on the same page as those in the light (Jn. 1:5; 3:19-20; 15:18-25; 17:14). A PASSAGE TO CONSIDER EPHESIANS 5:11 Christians do not walk in darkness (Eph. 5:1-8; Rom. 13:12). Christians are to open the eyes of those who are blind, that is, those who walk in darkness (Ac. 26:18; Rom. 2:19). Christians are called to expose darkness (Eph. 5:11; Ac. 19:8; 24:25). A PATHWAY THAT WORKS EPHESIANS 4:15 Path 1: The Fundamentalist Approach. Call sin out; separate yourself from the world; approach everything from an defensive or negative standpoint. The Bible is a truth club. Path 2: The Culturalist Approach. Ignore or excuse sin; blend in with the world; approach everything from a whatever makes you happy standpoint. The Bible is a good reference. Path 3*: The Realist Approach. Address error/sin at the proper time, and in the proper way; engage the world; approach everything from an open, yet exclusive Christian worldview. The Bible is the standard.
