2 Shared experiences by adults and teens Last Week Debrief the speaker from last week. If a student wasn t there, have the rest of the class explain it to the student. Explaining something can be a great way to learn and remember! See teen handout for discussion questions. Map of Jesus Take a look at the map of Jesus life! There is also a map on page C46 of the CYB. Talk about the events listed on the map in the THO and also on the map in the CYB. What happened at each location? Have a student retell each story/verse from that location so that all can remember/learn and be on the same page. There are verses on CYB C46 if you need a reference Community Building Who is Jesus quiz? This quiz can either be conducted as a competition between the students or as a class. If you decide to make it a competition, give the class a time limit (such as 5 minutes) to answer as many questions as they can. Then read the answers, having the students grade their own papers. The student with the most correct answers wins. Alternatively, you could break the class into 2 teams (boys vs girls, number off) with peers or catechists as team captains. Then see which team was able to come up with the most answers in the given time. You may also complete the quiz as a class. Answers: 1. Caesar Augustus. Luke 2:1 2. Nazareth. Luke 2:3 3. He was a carpenter. Matthew 13:55 4. In the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Matthew 3: Satan asked Him to turn the stones into bread: Matthew 4:3; To prove that He was invincible: Matthew 4:5-6; To worship Satan for the purpose of having the kingdoms of the world given to him: Matthew 4: Andrew, Simon Peter s brother and one of John s disciples. John 1:40 7. Turned the water into wine and the marriage of Cana of Galilee. John 2: Sleeping. Mark 4: Four days. John 11: Peter. John 18: Mary, the sister of Martha. John 12:3 12. Three. The widow s son: Luke 7:11-17; Lazarus: John 11:43-44; Jairus daughter: Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5:21-43, Luke 8: Five loaves of bread and two fish. John 6: Joseph of Arimathaea. Matthew 27: Go into the world, preach the Gospel, baptize believers and teach them. Matthew 28:19-20 Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8 2 P a g e

3 Scripture & Prayer Who is Jesus Delve deeper into who Jesus is and how we can relate to Him. Prophet/Teacher/Authority: Luke 4:14-15, Matthew 13:3; 13:13, Mark 4:2 Forgiver: Matthew 9:1-7, Luke 7:47-50 Innocent: Luke 23:44-49, Matthew 27:3-5 Divine: Luke 24:50-53 Healer/Miracle worker: Matthew 4:23-25, Luke , Luke 5:12-13 Human: Luke 22:39-46 Luke 23:46 Tempted: Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13 Catholic Teaching Timeline of Jesus life This is a sample time line of Jesus life taken from Luke s gospel. There are multiple ways to participate in this activity. 1. Have the teens, either individually or in groups, number the pictures in the correct sequential order. 2. Have the teens match the pictures to the correct passage then work out what order they fall in. 3. Have groups flip through Luke s gospel and find the correct passage that matches their picture. (The chapter headings in Luke are straight forward.) 4. Give the groups passages and have them draw illustrations. Each group could present their picture and then as a large group work out what order they go in. Birth of Jesus (Christmas) - Luke 2 The Boy Jesus in the Temple - Luke 3:41-52 Baptism - Luke 4:21-22 Tempted in the Desert - Luke 4:1-13 Calling the Disciples - Luke 5:1-11 Performs Miracles (ministry) - Luke 5:17-26 Last Supper (Holy Thursday) - Luke 22:14-20 Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives - Luke 22:39-46 Crucifixion (Good Friday) - Luke 23:33-43 Resurrection (Easter Sunday) - Luke 24:1-12 He is Witnessed by Many (Road to Emmaus) - Luke 24:13-35 Ascension into Heaven - Luke 24: P a g e

4 Debrief Questions: How long was Jesus teaching the Gospel before he was crucified? How long did the apostles know Jesus? How long would you have to know someone before you would follow them? (Most scholars believe Jesus was 30 when He began his ministry and around 33 when he was crucified.) History Channel Pitch Have groups spend some time and come up with a pitch as to why the life of Jesus could be turned into a history channel show. If they are comfortable have them present their pitch to the group. The following are examples of could-be loglines (pitches) for current television shows: "A likeable husband's tolerance and marriage is tested by the constant intrusion of his overbearing parents and dim-witted brother" - Everybody Loves Raymond "Twenty women will court and compete to win the affections of one man who will narrow the selection until he must decide on his one true love." - The Bachelor "Contestants' general knowledge will be tested when given the answers to questions they must then form." - Jeopardy Discuss: What do people today like to watch? Is Jesus story still relevant today? Does Jesus story have a rags-to-riches theme? Does his story have twists and turns? Violence? Love? Betrayal? If His story was a TV show would you watch it? Who Do You Say That I Am? Using the scripture and discussion questions on THO 7, talk about who Jesus is to each of the teens and the role that he plays in each of their lives. Mark 8:27-29: 27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, Who do people say I am? 28 They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets. 29 But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am? Peter answered, You are the Messiah. 4 P a g e
