2 The Land of Palestine at the time of Jesus of Nazareth Some highlights: Cana- Remember the wedding? The Sea of Galilee- And you thought the baptismal font was big? Nazareth- Everyone has to grow up somewhere Jerusalem- Where the greatest sacrifice was made Bethlehem- The beginning of the story 2 P a g e
3 You have heard the name Jesus probably your entire life. So what do we know about him? You can probably name facts about him: mother s name, place of birth, how he died. So what do you remember? 1. Who ordered the census which brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem? 2. Where did Joseph, Mary and Jesus live? 3. What type of work did Joseph (Jesus earthly father) do? 4. Where was Jesus baptized and by whom? 5. What were the three temptations that Satan gave to Jesus? 6. Who was the first disciple to come to Jesus in John 1? 7. What was the first recorded miracle of Jesus? 8. What was Jesus doing when the disciples were scared during a storm on the sea? 9. How long had Lazarus been dead when Jesus brought him back to life? 10. Which disciple denied Jesus three times? 11. Who anointed Jesus feet with an expensive perfume and then dried His feet with her hair? 12. How many people did Jesus raise from the dead? 13. How many loaves of bread and fish did Jesus use to feed the 5000 in John 6? 14. In whose new tomb was Jesus buried? 15. What was Jesus final command to the disciples before ascending to Heaven? 3 P a g e

7 27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, Who do people say I am? 28 They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets. 29 But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am? Peter answered, You are the Messiah. Mark 8:27-29 So we can name facts about Jesus and his life, but Jesus was more than just a man on Earth. Today, he has a much larger impact on the world. Remember how the peers talked about Jesus? That he is more to them than just a man. He can be a person, an event, or even a place. Think about that as you answer these questions: As kids, we may have only seen Jesus as the picture of a man with a beard. But now that we re older, we may see Jesus in other places and in other ways. Who is Jesus to you? Can he be more than just a man? Where do you see Jesus? In what actions or people or experiences do you see Jesus? Is there any moment in your life where you knew Jesus was with you? What aspects of Jesus confuse you? Is there anything about him that can be difficult to understand? I learned Statements complete one or two of the sentences below: 1) I learned.. 2) I relearned.. 3) I discovered.. 4) I wonder if. 5) I was surprised 7 P a g e
