1 Proverbs Introduction Handout Hebrews 4:12 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Proverbs 5: Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, 19 a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love. Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. 3 Proverbs 27: Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds, 24 for riches do not last forever; and does a crown endure to all generations? 25 When the grass is gone and the new growth appears and the vegetation of the mountains is gathered, 26 the lambs will provide your clothing, and the goats the price of a field. 27 There will be enough goats milk for your food, for the food of your household and maintenance for your girls. Proverbs 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. Proverbs 24:3 3 Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house (a life, a home, a family) built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation], Proverbs 21:1 1 THE KING S heart is in the hand of the Lord, as are the watercourses; He turns it whichever way He wills. Proverbs 16:7 When a man s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 17:14 The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts. Proverbs 22:1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold. Proverbs 15:4 A soothing tongue (speaking words that build up and encourage) is a tree of life but a perversive tongue (speaking words that overwhelm and depress) crushes the spirit. Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes (boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance), then come dishonor and shame, but with the humble (the teachable who have

6 been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God) there is wisdom and soundness of mind. Proverbs 17: He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. 28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. Proverbs 13:3 3 He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
