In The Beginning: Dinosaurs Did dinosaurs really exist? Yes! Dinosaurs did live on the Earth in the past. We know this because scientists find their fossils in different places all over the world and their skeletons are in museums all over the world for everyone to see. How do we know dinosaurs really existed? Directions: For the above booklet. Cut out, fold in half, write inside and glue into lapbook. Gideon Mantell When were dinosaurs found? Gideon Mantell was an English obstetrician, geologist and palaeontologist. In 1822, he a discovered strange, giant teeth in a quarry in England. Intrigued, Mantell showed his teeth to various authorities, initially they dismissed them as belonging to a rhinoceros. Shortly thereafter, it was established beyond any dispute that the teeth belonged to a large reptile, which Gideon named Iguanodon because they resembled those of an iguana, but were twenty times larger. He concluded that the Iguanadon must have been at least 60 feet (18 meters) in length. This was the the first dinosaur fossil ever found.

Here are some neat pictures of Iguanadon. (Cut out and glue into lapbook if desired.) Iguanadon hand Who was Gideon Mantell and what did he discover? Directions: For Gideon Mantell booklet. Cut out, fold in half and write inside. Glue into lapbook.

Sir Richard Owen Is the word dinosaur in the Bible? The word "dinosaur" is not found anywhere in the Bible. This is because the word "dinosaur" was not invented until the mid 1800's. The King James Bible was translated into English in So we would not expect to find the word " dinosaur." Famous British scientist, Sir Richard Owen, came up with name Dinosauria, meaning terrible lizard, for this is what the huge bones made him think of. Explain why the word dinosaur is not in the Bible. Who invented the word dinosaur and what does it mean? For above booklets. Cut out, fold in half and write inside. Glue into lapbook.

How big were dinosaurs? The largest dinosaur found to date is the Argentinosaurus, recently discovered in Argentina. It is 70 feet (21.4 meters) high. That's about the size of a six story building! It is 120 feet (36.6 meters) long and weighs 100 tons! The smallest dinosaur as far as we know, was compsognathus or delicate jaw. It was about the size of a large chicken. About 23 inches (60 centimeters) long and weighed 12 pounds ( 5.5 kilograms). Describe the largest dinosaur. Describe the smallest dinosaur. For above booklets. Cut out, fold in half, write inside. Glue into lapbook.

What makes dinosaurs different? Dinosaurs were land-dwelling reptiles that walked with an erect stance. Their unique hip structure caused their legs to stick out from under their bodies like a cow, and not sprawled out from their side like other reptiles, such as a crocodile. When did dinosaurs live? Explain how dinosaurs are different. Directions: For above booklet. Cut out, fold in half, write inside and glue into lapbook. God created dinosaurs on Day six of creation week along with all the other land animals. God also created Adam and Eve on Day six, so dinosaurs lived at the same time as people, about 6,000 years ago, not separated by millions of years. Many facts about Adam and Eve's children and their children s children are given in Genesis. These are called genealogies and are recorded throughout the Old Testament, up until the time of Christ. To find the age of the earth the genealogies of the descendent's of Adam and Eve are added up and that is how it is figured out that the earth is only about 6,000 years old not millions. Now, what I want you to do is to find out how old the earth is for yourself. I want you to see that dinosaurs lived only thousands of years ago. Not millions. I will show you how to figure it out it's not hard it just takes a little digging.

I can figure out the age of the earth. To find how old the earth is we need to trace what happened from creation until now. Time Line C R E A T I O N T H E F L O O D A B R A H A M J E S U S N O W 0 Years to Adam Years Years 4 B.C. A. years B. years Years Step one: For the above time line, go ahead and cut it out and set it aside. We will be filling in the blanks as we go.

Step Two. Now look up and read Genesis 5:1-3. How old was Adam when he had Seth?. Look on the chart below. I already put Adam's age when he became the father of Seth. Now read each listed verse on your chart below. Fill in the age of each father that tells us when he fathered the son that is listed in the third column. When finished add all the ages up and put them in the total box on your chart below. Verse Father Son Genesis 5:3 Genesis 5:6 Adam Seth Seth Enosh Genesis 5:9 Enosh Kenan Genesis 5:12 Genesis 5:15 Genesis 5:18 Genesis 5:21 Kenan Mahalalel Jared Enoch Mahalalel Jared Enoch Methuselah Genesis 5:25 Methuselah Lamech Genesis 5:28 Genesis 5:32 Genesis 11:10 Lamech Noah Shem Noah Shem, Ham, Japheth Arpachshad Total Age of Father 130

Step Three. Now read Genesis 11:10. How many years after the flood was it when Shem had Arpachshad? years after the flood. Now take the total from your chart on the previous page and place it in first blank below. Next, put how many years it was after the flood that Shem had Arpachshad in the second blank below and subtract it from the number in the first blank to get the number of years from Creation (Adam) until the flood. (total years) - (years after the flood when Shem had Arpachshad) = years from creation until the flood. Next, take your time line that you cut out and put your answer in the blank under "The Flood" on your time line.

Step Four. Now look at the second chart below and read each verse that is listed. Fill in the ages just like you did on the first chart. This chart is from Arpachshad to Abram (Abram's name was later changed by God to Abraham in Genesis 17:5). When finished putting in the ages, add up the number of years and put it in your Total box at the bottom of the chart. Then take this number and put it on your time line in the blank under Abraham's name. Remember, this covers the time period from the flood up to Abraham. Verse Father Son Genesis 11:12 Arpachshad Shelah Age of Father Genesis 11:14 Shelah Eber Genesis 11:16 Eber Peleg Genesis 11:18 Peleg Genesis 11:20 Genesis 11:22 Genesis 11:24 Reu Serug Nahor Reu Serug Nahor Terah Genesis 11:26 Terah Abram, Nahor, Haran Total

Step Five. Look up and read Matthew 1:17. Fill in the chart below by reading Matthew 1:17 and putting how many generations there were from Abraham to David. Do the same thing for the generations from David until the carrying away into Babylon and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ. Let's add up how many generations there were from Abraham to Jesus, placing the total generations on the chart. Verse Matthew 1:17 Matthew 1:17 Matthew 1:17 Events Abraham to David David until the carrying away into Babylon Carrying away into Babylon unto Christ Total Number of Generations How much time do you think a generation might be? A generation is an average time period between the birth of the parents and the birth of their children. So a generation was probably somewhere between 30 to 50 years. The Bible doesn't tell us exactly how long a generation is, so we have to estimate (make a guess) how long we think a generation would be. Let's say a generation is around 30 years. Take the number of generations that you just added up on your chart and multiply it by 30. Like this: (total number of generations from the above chart) X 30 (total number of years in a generation) = years

Now try making a generation around 50 years. Take the number of generations that you just added up on your chart on the previous page and multiply it by 50. (total number of generations from the above chart) X 50 (total number of years in a generation) = years This shows you approximately the number of years from Abraham to Jesus. Approximately means "almost exact, to come close to." This means that this number of years is very close to the correct number of years from Abraham to Jesus, but it is not the exact number because we don't know exactly how long a generation really was. So take the two answers that you got from making a generation 30 years and 50 years and place each of the answers on your time line in the blanks under " Jesus." Put the answer for 30 years in blank A and the answer for 50 years in blank B. This is the approximate number of years from Abraham until Jesus. Now, look at your time line. There is only one blank left, and that's the "now " blank, which is the year you are living in right now. The calendar we use today is based on approximately on the time of Jesus' birth: 4 B.C. So we can place the year that we are living in right now (2010) in the blank under "Now." Now to find out how old the earth is, look at your time line and add up all the years that you wrote in the blanks from Creation until now. When you get to the blank for Jesus, use the number of years in blank A under Jesus on your time line. So here we go! The beginning of time, 0 years, Creation (Adam) + years Flood + years Abraham + A. years Jesus + years Now = years, approximate age of the earth. Now do this one more time using the numbers in blank B under Jesus on the time line. The beginning of time, 0 years, Creation (Adam) + years Flood + years Abraham + B. year Jesus + years Now = years, approximate age of the earth.

What is the range of the total number of years of the earth? Put the lowest number of years that you totaled in the first blank below and the highest total in the second blank from years to years. The reason we did a range of the total numbers of years is because we had to estimate (make a guess) on how long a generation was. But even though we do not know exactly how old the earth is, we can come very close by looking at what the Bible says. Is the earth billions of years old? Yes No How about millions of years old? Yes No But books and some scientists say that the earth is billions of years old. Are they wrong? How do you know? So whom are you going to believe: God, our Creator or man whom God created and who is limited in his knowledge and experience?

Where did dinosaurs come from? It says in the Bible that God created all the land animals of Day six of creation. Dinosaurs being land animals must have been created on Day six along with Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:24-31). When God created dinosaurs, they were fully formed, they would have been 100% dinosaur. Looking at fossils of dinosaurs we find today, that is exactly what we see. Explain where dinosaurs came from. Directions: Cut out booklet, fold on dotted lines. Write inside. Glue into lapbook.

What did dinosaurs eat? Since the Bible tell us that Dinosaurs were created on Day six of creation with man, that means man and dinosaurs lived together. Well, you might say, "Wouldn't the dinosaurs eat the people?" The Bible says no. According to the Bible there was no killing at this time, all the animals and man lived on plants. In Genesis 1:29-30 it says that the original animals that were first created and the first humans were commanded to be vegetarian. Genesis 1: ) And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30.) And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. In the original creation there was no death or killing or the eating of meat by man or animal. It was a perfect world. Adam and Eve including the dinosaurs lived together and ate only plants. Directions: Dinosaur and man ate only plants in God's original creation. Genesis 1:29-30 confirms this. Write out Genesis 1:29 and Genesis 1:30 one verse on each card. Put in pocket on next page.

I ate plants. Directions: Make a pocket for your Bible verse cards from previous page. Cut out cards from previous page. Next cut out pocket. Fold in half, lightly glue the sides but not the top to make a pocket. Insert cards glue into lapbook.

Teeth Well, what about the dinosaurs sharp teeth? Wouldn't they be good for eating meat? Yes, but they would also be good for eating the tough rinds of watermelons and other large fruit. Tooth of a T-Rex What would a dinosaurs sharp teeth be good for besides eating meat? Directions: For above booklet. Cut out and fold in half. Answer question. Write inside. Glue the T-Rex tooth picture inside the booklet. Glue into lapbook. There are other animals today with sharp teeth that only eat fruits such as fruit bats and panda bears that only eat bamboo. So, what do those big, sharp teeth mean? It means simply that they had big, sharp teeth. Fruit bat skull Directions: What are some other animals that have sharp teeth and eat only plants? And what do big sharp teeth mean? Write the answers on the lines in the booklet above. Cut out booklet. fold on dotted lines so that flaps cover the writing like a shutter. Write on the front of the booklet. Big Teeth. Glue into lapbook.

When did dinosaurs start eating meat? In the Bible it says that man was not allowed to eat animals (meat) until after Noah's flood. The Bible doesn't tell us if animals ate each other or not before the flood, after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. We know death, as a result of Adam and Eve's sin, entered the world. But we don't know for sure how soon after the sin in the Garden of Eden dinosaurs and other animals ate each other. It is possible that man could have hunted animals, including dinosaurs before the flood for other things besides food such as their skins and fur for clothing. In Genesis 6:12 it says, "And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth." So it is possible that man, dinosaurs and other animals ate each other before the flood. In Genesis 9:2 is says, "And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. " So it looks like that man and animals did not fear each other before the flood. In Genesis 9:3 it says, "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things." This is when God gave permission to man to eat meat as well as plants. One thing we know for sure is that death and killing was not part of the original creation in the Garden of Eden it was a result of Adam and Eve's sin. Color, cut out and glue in lapbook if desired.

Explain when dinosaurs started eating meat. Directions: Cut out above booklet. Fold in half. Write inside. Glue into lapbook.

Why do we find dinosaur fossils? We find fossils because of the flood of Noah. In Genesis 6:5 it says,"and GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. " And in Genesis 6:11-13 it says, "The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, "The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. " The earth according to the Bible was corrupt for all flesh (man and animals) had corrupted his way upon the earth. Maybe people and animals had been killing each other, maybe dinosaurs and other animals started killing man and each other. No matter what was happening it was bad and the earth was corrupt. Because of this God said he was going to destroy the earth with a flood. (Genesis 6:17). God told Noah, a godly man that he was going to destroy the earth with a flood and to build a huge ship (the ark), so that all the kinds of land animals (which would have included dinosaurs) and Noah's family could survive on the ark while God sent the flood that destroyed the earth (Genesis 6:13-14). Some people think that the dinosaurs would have been too big to fit on the ark. However, God could have sent young dinosaurs to the ark and that way they could reproduce more easily after the flood as opposed to older dinosaurs. God sent all sorts of land animals to Noah to put onto the ark. The animals that were not on the ark drowned. Many of the animals including dinosaurs that drowned would have been covered with tons of mud and debris as the water covered the earth. (Genesis 7:11-12, 19) The animals (including dinosaurs) would have been buried very quickly, many would be preserved as fossils. That is exactly what we see today animal remains (including dinosaurs) in rock sediments all over the world.

Directions: Cut out booklet below, write inside, glue into lapbook. Explain why we find dinosaur fossils.

How are dinosaur fossils formed? If the dinosaur was not on Noah's ark when God sent the flood then it drowned. The dinosaur or other animal would have been buried very fast as waters of the flood laid down soft layers of mud, debris and sediment that would later harden into stone. As the dinosaur or animal rotted away, fossilization occurs. Bones are being replaced with dissolved minerals in ground water. Eventually, the fossilized animal will become exposed because the ground it is buried in erodes away.

Directions: Describe the steps of how a fossil is formed. Write one step on each card. Cut out cards. Store is pocket on next page.

Directions: To make a pocket for your cards on previous page. Cut out pocket. Fold in half. Lightly glue sides but not the top to make a pocket. Add cards from previous page to pocket. Glue into lapbook. How Fossils Are Made

If humans and dinosaurs lived together, why don t we find human fossils with dinosaur fossils? To put it simply it just means that they weren't buried together. During the flood people would have tried to move to higher ground they would have tried to swim or hold on to debris to float for as long as possible. A human corpse would bloat and float on the waters surface rotting and decaying without being buried in layers of sediment and fossilizing like sea creatures, plants and insects. So it would be very rare to find a human fossil. Explain why we don't find human fossils. Directions: Cut out booklet, fold in half. Write inside. Glue into lapbook.

Are dinosaurs mentioned in the Bible? The answer is yes! Dinosaurs are mentioned in the Bible but they are not called dinosaurs. As discussed earlier the word dinosaur was not invented until 1841 and the King James Bible was translated in Behemoth, Leviathan and Dragon in the Bible all refer to dinosaurs. (The only exception is when the Bible uses the word dragon to refer to Satan.) Lets look at these dinosaurs individually. Behemoth. In Job 40:15-24 it talks about Behemoth this is what is says, "Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares." Directions: According to the scripture above. What do you think the Behemoth looked like? Cut out booklet, Fold in half. Inside the booklet draw the Behemoth according to what you think it looked like from the Bible's description. On the outside of the booklet write Behemoth. Glue into lapbook.

Some bibles and study bibles will translate the word behemoth as elephant or hippopotamus. Others will put a note at the edge or bottom of the page, stating that behemoth was probably an elephant or a hippopotamus. Although an elephant or hippopotamus can eat grass, neither an elephant or a hippopotamus has a tail like a cedar (that is, a tail like a large, tapered tree trunk). Hippo Elephant Directions: For above booklet. Cut out and fold in half so that the pictures are folded to the inside of the booklet. Explain why a Behemoth cannot be an elephant or a hippo. On the outside of the booklet write Why Behemoth is not a elephant or hippo. Glue into lapbook. We would expect behemoth to be a large land animal whose bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron, so whatever a behemoth is, it is large. A key phrase is He is the chief of the ways of God. This phrase in the original Hebrew implied that behemoth was the biggest animal created. Although an elephant or a hippopotamus are big, they are less than one-tenth the size of a Brachiosaurus, one of the largest (complete) dinosaurs ever discovered. A Brachiosaurus could therefore easily be described as The chief of the ways of God.

Brachiosaurus, elephant and man compared. Directions: Color the above picture. Cut out and glue into lapbook Behemoth Dinosaur Cut the above out and color, use as bookmarks if desired.

Leviathan Leviathan is talked about in Job chapter 41, Psalm 74:14, Psalm 104:26 and Isaiah 27:1. Go ahead and read the above scriptures that talk about Leviathan as you read think about what this creature would have looked like. Directions: According to the scripture passages listed above. What do you think Leviathan looked like? Cut out booklet, Fold in half. Inside the booklet draw the Leviathan according to what you think it looked like from the Bible's description. On the outside of the booklet write Leviathan. Glue into lapbook. Unlike behemoth, who is huge, Leviathan is ferocious and terrifying. Many references refer to the sea, so Leviathan could have been a sea creature. Although some bibles refer to Leviathan as an alligator or crocodile (and both of these are fierce) neither of these is a sea creature. They like the water, but they spend much of their time on land. Further, the question Who can open the doors of his face? implies that nobody can open Leviathan s jaws. Although an alligator's jaws cannot normally be forced open, a punch to their sensitive snout or poke in eye might startle them enough to release their grip. Although this is a good description of an alligator characteristic, it does not fit perfectly with the description of Leviathan.

Explain why you think Leviathan is not a Alligator or Crocodile. Directions: For above booklet, Cut out fold in half and write inside. Glue into lapbook. The description of the scales is interesting. Several verses describe these great scales. Compared to Leviathan s armor, iron is like straw and arrows cannot make it flee. An arrow can do a lot of damage to a crocodile or alligator. This is not a description of either of them or any living animal we are aware of. Directions: Draw what you think the scales of the Leviathan looked like in the box above. Cut out and glue into lapbook.

And now for the key ingredient: fire. It is hard to read Job 41:18-21 without realizing the Bible is telling us that Leviathan breathes fire. That alone will eliminate almost every living animal. Yes, there is one animal like that in today s world. It is called a bombardier beetle. This beetle is a native of Central America, and has a nozzle in its hind end that acts like a little flame thrower. It sprays a high-temperature jet of gas (fueled by hydroquinones and hydrogen peroxide with oxidative enzymes) for protection. Now, if a Central American beetle can do it, so could Leviathan. Directions:Write out the verses that talk about Leviathan breathing fire. Write Job 41:18-21, write one verse on each card. Cut out cards.

Directions: To make a pocket for your cards on the previous page. Cut out pocket. Fold in half. Lightly glue sides but not the top. Glue into lapbook insert cards. Leviathan Breathed Fire

What about Dragons? The word dragons is also mentioned in the Bible. Dragons are usually regarded as mythical beasts that did not actually exist. But all myths are likely to have had some factual basis at some point. Remember the King James Bible was translated in 1611 and the word dinosaur was not invented until So it would be natural that the word dragon would have been used. The history of every culture is filled with stories of dragons and fire-breathing dragons. If you think about it, in all the past ages wouldn t someone have made up a story of a fire-breathing lion or something? Nobody did because the dragon stories are based on truth, and only dragons breathed fire. It is easy to imagine Leviathan as a member of the dragon family. Many fossil dinosaur skulls contain unexplained, empty passages. Scientists have not been able to guess the reason for these passages. Would it make sense that some dinosaurs used these passages as gas tanks for the combustible mixture used to breathe fire.? Look at the flag of the country of Wales: What does the creature on the flag look like to you? Thats right a dragon. Could this image of a dragon have some truth behind it? China and Japan and many places in Europe also have many dragon legends along with other cultures around the world. Cut out the above flag of Wales and glue it in your lapbook.

Dragons from around the world. Dragon statue from Slovenia. Dragon made out of bamboo in Seoul, Korea. Chinese dragon on a banner. Coat of Arms of South Vietnam,

Dragon sculpture, Taipei, Taiwan. St. George and the Dragon in Germany. Dragon in Japan. Dragon on the Ishtar Gate, around 600 BC. Babylon Directions: Cut out cards on this page and previous page. Put them in the pocket on the following page and glue into lapbook.

Dragons From Around the World Directions: To make a pocket for your cards on the previous pages. Cut out pocket. Fold in half. Lightly glue sides. Add cards to pocket. Glue into lapbook.

What happened to the dinosaurs? To put it simply they died. When the flood happened the animals (including dinosaurs) that were on the ark were saved to reproduce after the flood. Those animals (including dinosaurs) that were not on the ark died in the flood. After the ark landed on the mountains of Ararat and the flood waters receded, Noah was told by God to leave the ark. The animals that had lived after the flood would have had a completely different world to live in the dinosaurs probably died out for several reasons. 1.) There was now competition for food, the food would have not longer been plentiful they would have had to search out food after the flood. 2.) Possibly other weather related catastrophes the weather would have been a lot different. 3.) Man could have killed dinosaurs and other animals for food, clothing and sport. 4.) Animals would have been killing each other. 5.) The destruction of their habitats from the flood many dinosaur species and other animals would have died out, becoming extinct. We also see different groups of animals becoming extinct today as well for different reasons. So you can see it is really very simple what happened to the dinosaurs. Can you think of any other reasons dinosaurs became extinct? Cut out and color the above dinosaur and glue it into your lapbook.

Directions: Give five reasons dinosaurs died out. First cut out above flap booklet. Next, cut on dotted lines and stop cutting when you get to the blue solid line. Next fold flaps over on solid blue line so they cover the boxes on the right. Next on the boxes on the right give one reason per box why the dinosaurs died out. Your flaps will cover your writing when done. On the outside of the flaps write Why dinosaurs died out.

What about dinosaurs and birds? Evolutionists believe that reptiles gave rise to dinosaurs, and then to birds. But according to scripture birds were created on Day 5 and both dinosaurs and reptiles were created on Day 6 (the same day as other land animals and humans). On what day were dinosaurs created? On what day were birds created? Many links between dinosaurs and birds have been proposed, but none stand up to detailed examination. All they have found are fossils of dinosaurs and fossils of birds, but none are in between no fossil of half bird and half dinosaur has ever been found. Have any half dinosaurs, half bird fossils ever been found? Directions for booklets. Cut out, fold in half, write inside and glue into lap book.

These features are claimed to be reminiscent of their dinosaur ancestors. An artists depiction of a fossil bird called "Archaeopteryx" (are-key-awp-tur-iks). This creature has been used by Evolutionists to promote the idea that dinosaurs evolved into birds. They claim that it is a transitional form with physical features of both dinosaurs and birds. The Archaeopteryx found in 1860, is a bird with what Evolutionists consider "reptile-like" features. Archaeopteryx has teeth in its bill, claws on its wing, and has a long bony tail. Evolutionists claimed that Archaeopteryx is 150 million years old, and upheld it as the missing link between dinosaurs and birds. As far as the physical features, Archaeopteryx was a bird with teeth. Some birds such as ducks and geese have teeth-like serrations to help cut vegetation. This doesn't mean they used to be dinosaurs. It simply means they had teeth. Teeth If desired, cut out pictures and add them to your lap book. Teeth

Directions for booklet. Cut out, fold in half, write inside and glue into lap book. What does it mean that the Archaeopteryx had teeth? Does it mean it was related to a dinosaur? Hoatzin well. Many birds living today have claws on their wings. The Hoatzin when newly hatched has claws on its thumb and first finger and so is enabled to climb on the branches of trees with great dexterity until such time as the wings are strong enough to sustain it in flight. Some species of geese retain spurs on their wings into adulthood, and young European coots have a single claw on each wing that helps them climb back to the nest as Another bird is the Turaco, like the Hoatzin, the young have a wing claw to help them scramble around the treetops. The simple truth is that God made some birds with claws on their wings and some without. It doesn't mean that they are related to dinosaurs. All similar characteristics between birds and dinosaurs would simply mean that birds and dinosaurs have the same designer not the same ancestor. White Crested Turaco

Directions for booklets. Cut out, fold in half, write inside and glue into lap book. What does it mean that some birds have claws on their wings? Does it mean they are related to dinosaurs? The feathers of Archaeopteryx are not "half feather and half scale". They are 100% fully formed feathers. Some have suggested that bird wings evolved from frayed dinosaur scales. They point out the fact that both are made of the protein keratin. Of course the importance of this is over stressed. Hair, nails and our skin are also made of keratin. If Archaeopteryx has anything that modern birds do not it is because they are more complex, having lived closer to the time of creation than birds alive today. The bottom line is, the Archaeopteryx is, and always was a bird. What do the feathers of the Archaeopteryx show us?

Here is a neat photo of an Archaeopteryx fossil.

What can we learn from the dinosaurs? When we see dinosaur fossils we can be reminded that death was not a part of God's original creation. God created everything perfect and that death is a result of Adam's sin. (Genesis 2:17) The Bible tells us because Adam sinned we have sinned too. (Romans 5:12) We can also remember that God sent a world wide flood that covered the earth to judge the rebellion in Noah's day, which killed millions of creatures, including dinosaurs. (Genesis 6-8) Now that I have listed some of the things we can learn from dinosaurs think about what you can learn from them. Write those things in the booklet below. What can I learn from the dinosaurs? Directions: Cut out booklet, fold in half, write inside. Glue into lapbook.
