3 Proverbs Chapter Nine Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: What has wisdom built and what did she make it out of? Directions: Cut out booklet. Fold in half and write inside. Fold tab on dotted line. Glue into lapbook. Proverbs 9:2 She hath killed her beasts (slaughtered her meat); she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table. What three things has wisdom done in Proverbs 9:2? 4 In Proverbs 9:2 Wine is the same Hebrew word as in Genesis 49:11, which shows that this wine is not fermented. Some think that mingled is a proof that it was fermented and that it was so highly alcoholic it needed to be watered down, but this is not true. One of the ways of preserving grape juice without fermenting it, was to boil it down to a very thick syrup which was incapable of fermentation. Then when used, it had to be mingled with water to thin it to a drinking consistency. Describe a way of preserving grape juice without fermenting it. Directions: Cut out booklet. Fold in half. 5 What is fermentation? Fermentation is a chemical change brought on by the action of microscopic yeast, molds and bacteria. Alcohol is produced when yeast enzymes break up sugar into roughly equal parts of alcohol and carbon dioxide gas. The souring of milk and the rising of dough are also examples of fermentation. Describe fermentation. What are two other examples of fermentation? Directions: Cut out booklets and fold in half. Write inside and glue into lapbook.

6 Proverbs 9:3 She (wisdom) hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth (calls out) upon the highest places of the city, Who has wisdom sent forth and where does she cry? Directions: For above booklet. Write one item on each flap. Cut out. Fold flaps on dotted lines towards middle of booklet. Glue into lapbook. Proverbs 9:4-6 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. Directions: What six things is wisdom saying in Proverbs 9:4-6? Write one item on each card below and then cut out the cards and store in pocket.

9 What is a scorner? A scoffer; a derider; in Scripture, one who scoffs at religion, its ordinances and teachers, and who makes a mock of sin and the judgments and threatenings of God against sinners. What is a scorner? What is shame? A painful emotion resulting from an awareness of inadequacy or guilt. What is shame? Directions: Cut out booklets, fold in half and write inside. Fold tab on dotted line and glue into lapbook.

10 What does rebuke mean? To chasten; to punish; to afflict for correction. Describe Rebuke. Directions: Cut out booklet, fold in half and write inside. Fold tab on dotted line and glue into lapbook. 11 Proverbs 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. If you give instruction to a wise man what will happen?
