1 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: a blessing, if ye obey the Commandments of (YHWH) your God and a curse, if ye will not obey the Commandments of (YHWH) your God... Deuteronomy 11:26-28 Lighted Way Ministries Newsletter August-September, 2011 Issue 24 Today Christianity commonly nails the Law to the Cross, calling it a burden and rejoicing that it was taken away by the Saviour s Death. But is this the Truth? The Bible tells us that we can discern the spirit of a person or teaching by the fruits (Matthew 7:15-20) manifested in the life or concept. So what is the fruit of this Torah-is-a-burden-done-awayat-the-Cross perspective? If this teaching is from YHWH, we can expect to find great blessing and freedom in it. Does this negative view of the Torah bring blessing and freedom, or does it produce the fruit of curses and bondage? In response to this question, let us begin by considering a story which took place this last week. We received a call from a lady on the Eastern Seaboard. She and her husband called to say that they planned to join us for Tabernacles. The two teachings she and her husband had found to be so life-changing were: learning to understand and obey (by YHWH s Grace) the Torah, and the principles of Spiritual Warfare. The caller made a profound observation, which we believed might be a blessing to all of you. It was: both the Torah and Spiritual Warfare are essential to victorious Christian living. Here s why: 1) If you only have the understanding of Spiritual Warfare, but do not shama (hear, understand, obey) the Torah, you are not fully submitted to YHWH. Only when we are FIRST fully submitted to YHWH can we effectively resist the devil (James 4:7). 2) If you only have the principles of obedience to Torah, but do not also have Spiritual Warfare, you have no means with which to obey YAH and resist Satan. When this dear couple discovered both the Torah AND Spiritual Warfare, they began to have real, life-changing victory in their personal walk with Yahshua! Theirs was a powerful testimony! And we joined them in rejoicing and praising YHWH for His marvelous work in their lives through these two vital Truths. 2 Perspectives on Torah, from page 1 This was our testimony as well as numerous others who had discovered and implemented both practices into their lives and homes! What s more, we find that as we increasingly shama (hear, understand and obey) the Torah our spiritual eyesight sharpens (which is our ability to perceive Truth and spiritual realities) and our spiritual hearing grows more acute (which is our ability to discern YHWH s Spirit and its promptings). Thus, like the illustration on the right shows, the more we align our lives with the Torah, by the indwelling Grace of YHWH and using the Heavenly Weapons, the more Holy- Spirit filled and empowered we become! Now, what happens if a person believes the Torah was nailed to the Cross? The fruit of such a belief is the opposite of shama. Instead of hearing Torah, learning to understand it and obeying it; the person who nails the Torah will not be motivated to hear it, have no interest in understanding it, and finds no value in obeying it. Now, since the more we shama the Torah the more our ability to discern the Holy Spirit and understand and percieve Spiritual Realities grows, clearly if we do not shama the Torah, our spiritual hearing and vision dims. This is exactly what the prophet Ezekiel warned us about: Ezekiel 12:2 - Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house. The word rebellious in this Scripture is from the Hebrew root word marah, which means bitter, rebel and to disobey. What is being disobeyed which produces this blind condition? The Bible answers this clearly in several place. For space, we ll look at one: 1 Sam. 12:15 But if ye will not obey the Voice of (YHWH), but rebel against the Commandment of (YHWH), then shall the hand of (YHWH) be against you... Ability to Discern the Holy Spirit increases Ability to see and understand Spiritual reality increases Obey Torah by Yahshua s Power Considering that when we do not shama (hear, understand, obey) the Torah we become Spiritually blind and deaf, we can clearly see that nailing the Torah to the Cross produces bad fruit. If ever there was a time we needed Spiritual perception, it s now! We need Torah! (Prov. 6:23 and Isaiah 8:20). Hear Torah Repent for past disobedience See, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse Deuteronomy 11:26 BLESSINGS PROMISED TO THOSE WHO SHAMA THE TORAH: It will be well with us and with our children forever Deuteronomy 5:29 YHWH will put curses on our enemies Deuteronomy 30:7 Whatever we do or produce will prosper Deut. 30:9, Psalm 1:1-3 We ll live long Deuteronomy 32:47-48 YHWH will be with us in the End of Trouble Deut. 4:30-31 YHWH will heal our diseases Exodus 15:26 CURSES WHICH FALL UPON THOSE WHO REBEL AGAINST TORAH: Plagues & pestilences fall upon us Deuteronomy 28:59 Terrible long-lasting sicknesses destroy our heath Deut. 28:59-60 We will be unable to be at ease or rest Deuteronomy 28:65 We will have great sorrow Deuteronomy 28:65 We will be filled with fear Deuteronomy 28:66 The food we plant will be eaten by enemies Leviticus 26:16 Our prayers will be an abomination unto YHWH Proverbs 28:9 Deuteronomy 30:16 I command thee this day to love (YHWH) thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His Commandments and His Statutes and His Judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and (YHWH) thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. 2

5 A New Speaker is Coming to Sukkot: Rod Blair Biblical Sites Archaeological Discoveries THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES Meet Rod Blair: Rod Blair is a Bible scholar, design engineer and traveler. Rod will share the history and the artifacts that support the Turkish government s reason for declaring this to be the ruins of Noah s Ark. Exodus 14:28 From the city of Cairo, Egypt, Rod will share slides and video of the ruins of Saqqara and the evidence that links Joseph to the history of these ruins. Then our journey will continue across the Sinai desert to the Crossing point in the Red Sea. Slides and video footage will show the remains of coral encrusted Egyptian chariots. Our journey will culminate at the real Mount Sinai (located in Arabia, just as the Bible says). Genesis 19:24 North along the west coast of the Dead Sea, Israel, we ll stop at Herodian and the tomb of Herod the Great. This talk will show the site of the Dead Sea Scrolls at Qumran and the ruins of Gommorah. Luke 14:34 Jerusalem, Israel, and the surrounding areas will show the remains of the last city of David and the tomb of Lazarus. This talk in the series will display slides and video of the Garden of Gethsemane, Mount of Olives, the Garden Tomb and the Crucifixion site. Revelation 2:4 Ephesus, Turkey, was the city of the apostle Paul s journey in the book of Acts, also mentioned in the book of Revelation. Through pictures and experience, Rod will take us to this location which was one of the ancient wonders of the world, and the center for evangelism in the first century AD.
