1 Joshua 20:1-5 ADONAI said to Y'hoshua, "Tell the people of Isra'el, 'Select the cities of refuge about which I spoke to you through Moshe; so that anyone who kills someone by mistake and unknowingly may escape there; they will serve as refuges for you from the next-of-kin avenger. He is to flee to one of those cities, stand at the entrance to the city gate and State his cause to the city leaders. Then they will bring him into the city with them and give him a place, so that he may live among them. If the next-of-kin avenger pursues him, they are not to hand over the killer to him; because he struck his fellow community member unknowingly and had not hated him previously.'" Joshua 20:1-2 ADONAI said to Y'hoshua, "Tell the people of Isra'el, 'Select the cities of refuge about which I spoke to you through Moshe '" Exodus 21:12-13 Whoever attacks a person and causes his death must be put to death. If it was not premeditated but an act of God, then I will designate for you a place to which he can flee. Shabbat 1

2 Numbers 35:9-11 ADONAI said to Moshe, "Tell the people of Isra'el, 'When you cross the Yarden into the land of Kena'an, you are to designate for yourselves cities that will be cities of refuge for you, to which anyone who kills someone by mistake can flee.'" Deuteronomy 19:1-2, 8-9 When ADONAI your God cuts off the nations whose land ADONAI your God is giving you, and you take their place and settle in their cities and houses, you are to set aside three cities for yourselves in your land that ADONAI your God is giving you to possess. If ADONAI your God expands your territory, as he swore to your ancestors that he would, and gives you all the land he promised to give to your ancestors - provided you keep and observe all these mitzvot I am giving you today, loving ADONAI your God and always following his ways - then you are to add three more cities for yourselves, besides these three Refuge Mik-Lawt A place of protection, a safe haven, a harbor, a stronghold. 4 Flee Noos To take flight, to fly on horseback, to disappear. Joshua 20:5 If the next-of-kin avenger pursues him, they are not to hand over the killer to him; because he struck his fellow community member unknowingly and had not hated him previously. Deuteronomy 19:3 Divide the territory of your land, which ADONAI your God is having you inherit, into three parts; and prepare the roads, so that any killer can flee to these cities. Shabbat 4

Joshua 20:7-8 So they set apart Kedesh in the Galil, in the hills of Naftali; Sh'khem in the hills of Efrayim; and Kiryat-Arba (that is, Hevron) in the hills of Y'hudah. Beyond the Yarden east of Yericho they selected Betzer in the desert, on the plateau, out of the tribe of Re'uven; Ramot in Gil'ad out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of M'nasheh. But if anyone does sin, we have Yeshua the Messiah, the Tzaddik, who pleads our cause with the Father. Also, he is the kapparah for our sins - and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world. Shabbat 6

7 Mark 2:1-4 After a while, Yeshua returned to K'far-Nachum. The word spread that he was back, and so many people gathered around the house that there was no longer any room, not even in front of the door. While he was preaching the message to them, four men came to him carrying a paralyzed man. They could not get near Yeshua because of the crowd, so they stripped the roof over the place where he was, made an opening, and lowered the stretcher with the paralytic lying on it. John 3:36 Whoever trusts in the Son has eternal life. But whoever disobeys the Son will not see that life but remains subject to God's wrath. Numbers 35:19 The next-of-kin avenger is to put the murderer to death himself - upon meeting him, he is to put him to death. Shabbat 7

8 Numbers 35:31 Also, you are not to accept a ransom in lieu of the life of a murderer condemned to death; rather, he must be put to death. Isaiah 53:5-6 (CJB) But he was wounded because of our crimes, crushed because of our sins; the disciplining that makes us whole fell on him, and by his bruises we are healed. We all, like sheep, went astray; we turned, each one, to his own way; yet ADONAI laid on him the guilt of all of us. Isaiah 53:10 (CJB) yet it pleased ADONAI to crush him with illness, to see if he would present himself as a guilt offering. If he does, he will see his offspring; and he will prolong his days; and at his hand ADONAI's desire will be accomplished. Shabbat 8

9 Isaiah 53:5-6, 10 (MSG) But it was our sins that did that to him, that Ripped and tore and crushed him - our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed. We're all like sheep who've wandered off and gotten lost. We've all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we've done wrong, on him, on him. Still, it's what God had in mind all along, to crush him with pain. The plan was that he give himself as an offering for sin so that he'd see life come from it - life, life, and more life. And God's plan will deeply prosper through him. Shabbat 9
