By Ahuva Balofsky June 3 in Following a crackdown on Islamic State (ISIS) supporters in the Gaza Strip, ISIS issued a warning to Hamas, which controls the region: you have 48 hours to leave us alone, or else! The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Salafi-jihadists in Gaza issued the threat via Middle East media, though they did not specify what would happen if Hamas refused to comply. Tensions between the two groups have been on the rise since Hamas destroyed a mosque associated with a group called Supporters of the Islamic State in Jerusalem May 3, in response to a series of unclaimed bombings in the Strip. In a statement reported by the Egyptian daily newspaper Al-Masry al-youm, the Salafists accused Hamas of demolishing the structure in a manner that even the Jewish andamerican occupation has not done. In the light of Hamas new crackdown, we renew our loyalty to [ISIS Caliph Abu Bakr] al-baghdadi and call on him to strengthen his influence and to launch a campaign in Palestine, read the statement from Supporters of the Islamic State in Jerusalem. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacked two targets in Lebanon. 5 Hezbollah's official Al-Manar network has denied any airstrikes on its military targets, according to the Lebanese Daily Star. There have been conflicting reports from Lebanese security sources, with some denying the strike while others confirmed it and noted that it is not yet known whether there are any casualties. There is a possibility that the reported Arsal airstrike may have been confused with overflow from fighting on the outskirts of the same region, as the Daily Star reports that on Tuesday fierce fighting was taking place between Nusra Front - the Syrian affiliate ofal Qaeda - and Hezbollah. Nusra Front claimed it had killed several Hezbollah terrorists and seized their weapons from two military posts near the villages of Nahleh andarsal. This is not the first airstrike the IAF has reportedly carried out on military targets over the Lebanese border recently, with rocket transfers from Iran to its Shi'ite terror proxy in Lebanon Hezbollah reportedly being hit in a series of strikes last month. Among those reported strikes were hits on Hezbollah bound rocket launchers in the Qalamoun mountainous region as reported by Al Jazeera; the Qalamoun region has been a key weapons smuggling point between Syria and Lebanon. Just two days before that report a weapons convoy near Damascus bringing advanced rockets to Hezbollah was struck by the IAF according toarabic media. Egyptian Historian Maged Farag speaks in Support of Normalized Relations with Israel. In a recent TV interview, Egyptian historian Maged Farag called for normalized relations with Israel, saying that Egypt would benefit from cultural and economic exchange, from tourism, and from Israel's advanced agricultural and industrial technology. "For 70 years, the Palestinian cause has brought Egypt and the Egyptians nothing but harm, destruction, and expense," said Farag. "We should think with a scientific and open mind, with our eyes set on the future," said the historian, who recently visited Israel to attend a conference on Egyptian Jewry. Following are excerpts from the interview, which aired on the Egyptian Mehwar TV channel on May 26, Interviewer: You were quoted as saying that we should drop the Palestinian cause, and focus on normalizing our relations with Israel, and thus becoming its friends and buddies.are you serious?! Majed Farag: What I'm saying is that we should pay attention to the interests of our country. There are no such things as eternal enmity or eternal love. There are only eternal interests. We should identify our country's interest. Churchill once said that he was ready to cooperate with the Devil in the interest of his country. As a man who knows a little bit about history and about international relations, I believe that it is in our interest to maintain normal relations with Israel. Of course, we have the right to maintain caution in these relations... With regard to national security, according to my information, there is cooperation, and there is dialogue on the political, security, and military levels between Egypt and Israel. The state is not the problem. The problem lies with the 5

6 people, who still live the old ideology and the cultural heritage on which we were raised. Our generation was raised upon hatred and upon these people being barbaric... Interviewer: I don't like them. Majed Farag:You have the right not to like them. Interviewer: But we were forced to confront them... Majed Farag: Look, there is a difference between loving them... There is no love or hate in politics and in international relations. Interviewer: I agree. Majed Farag: There are only interests. It is in our interest to cooperate with people of culture, science, thought, and technology - all those things that can benefit us. [...] Majed Farag: As an Egyptian, I care about one thing and one thing only: my country's interests. I care about our national security. For over 70 years, the Palestinian cause has brought upon Egypt and the Egyptians nothing but harm, destruction, and expense. We have been preoccupied all our lives with the Palestinian cause... Interviewer: Peace in the Middle East... Majed Farag: No. The Palestinian cause is Palestinian. Egypt's problem has been resolved. The occupied land has been liberated. End of story, as far as I'm concerned. Let us now live and care about the interests of my country. Am I supposed to shackle myself to the Palestinian cause? Let the (Palestinians) resolve it. I have no problem with that. We have tried to help them many times. You remember the story of the (1977) Mena House meeting, to which they did not show up... Interviewer: Sadat told them to come and sign with him... Majed Farag: They don't think it is in their interest. They don't want to resolve their own problem. Two rockets from Gaza

7 exploded in the Sdot Negev region. There were no physical injuries or damages. Following the attack, Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman said that it is the Israeli government s policy of restraint that is to blame for the resumption of rocket attacks. Powerlessness leads to failure. The policy led by the Prime Minister, of restraint and containment and obvious reluctance to topple the Hamas terror regime, leads to the residents of the south and then all the residents of Israel, again being held hostage by the terrorists in Gaza, Liberman said. Israel must respond firmly and not just issue a verbal response or bomb empty sands, he added. Tamir Idan, head of the Sdot Negev Regional Council, also called on the government to respond to the attack. Wednesday s attack came just one week after terrorists from Gaza fired a Grad rocket towards southern Israel. The rocket exploded near the community of Gan Yavneh, near Ashdod. There were no injuries. The IDF retaliated for the attack by launching airstrikes on terrorist infrastructures in Gaza. RT.com reports indicate it was not Hamas, but its rival Salafist group called Omar Brigades, loyal to Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) that claimed responsibility for the attack. We are continuing with our jihad against the Jews, the group said in a statement, claiming the rockets were fired in retaliation for Hamas killing of an IS supporter on Tuesday, according to Reuters. The strikes took place in the western part of the strip, near the Maqousi Towers residential area. Khan Younis and Ubaidah garrison of Hamas-affiliatedAl-Qassam Brigades were also struck. There were no immediate reports of casualties, said Times of Israel citing Hamas media reports. Hamas said its military facilities were targeted. An Israeli army statement cited by Haaretz blamed Hamas for Wednesday s missile attack. IAF jets struck three terror infrastructures in the Gaza Strip, the statement said. The outlet reported that Hamas Gaza headquarters had been evacuated prior to the strikes, but the group adamantly denied being behind the launches. Hamas reportedly pointed a finger at the Salafist group, accusing it of trying to provoke a new all-out conflict in Gaza. Hamas security services had reportedly eliminated a senior Salafist, who had been planning attacks against the Palestinian group, just a few days before. 7
