The Rabbi is available to sell your Chometz in person before or after davening on any day until Monday morning April 10th at 7:30 AM, and is available to answer any and all questions you may have in preparing for Pesach. Easiest way to reach him is by - yossi@rogers.com. It is too late to fax or in forms to the office. PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF ANY FORMS AT THE RABBI S HOME. 3. The Rabbi is collecting Maos Chittim for those who are in financial need to take care of their Pesach expenses. Please contact the Rabbi or the office if you wish to contribute. 4. A Pre Pesach garbage disposal service has been arranged at the Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, 501 Clark Avenue West (Northwest Corner of the parking lot). The service will be available until April 10 (closed on April 8), open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. On April 10 the depot NOON. Garbage will NOT be accepted outside of these times. Enter via the EAST ENTRANCE Depot is in the Southeast corner of the parking lot behind and to the east of the building). 5. The Shul will have their annual Siyum Habechorim (of the first born) on Monday April 10th after Shacharis, followed by a deluxe Chametz breakfast. 2 MECHIRAS CHOMETZ [SALE OF CHOMETZ] All Chometz not destroyed must be given as a gift or must be sold to a non-jew. The Rabbi is appointed as an agent of the seller of the Chometz to sell it to a non-jew. Not only does one sell the Chometz in his possession, but also subleases to the non-jew the property on which the Chometz is located. The non-jew is allowed free access to the Chometz he purchases. This procedure is not a legal fiction but a true sale in accordance with the Talmudic and Secular Law. It is advisable to list with the Rabbi serving as the agent, the types of Chometz you are selling. The Chometz utensils (pots, pans and dinnerware) are not sold to the non-jew but they are rented to him and any Chometz within them sold to the non-jew. This is done because otherwise the utensils would require tevilah before use after Pesach. Any person who may not find it possible to appear before the Rabbi personally to appoint him as an agent to sell his Chometz may use the text below. Fill the blank spaces and give this to the Rabbi no later than Mon. Apr. 10th by 7:30 AM. Do not fax forms to the office after Thur. Apr. 6, 10:00 AM. The legal intricacies covering this transfer of property are many, and only a Rabbi should be entrusted with its execution. THE PROHIBITION OF EATING OF CHOMETZ BEGINS AT 10:37 AM ON Monday April 10th. IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE RABBI TIME TO COMPLETE THE ARRANGEMENTS WITH THE AGENT AT THE CONCLUSION OF PESACH, THAT WHICH HAD BEEN SOLD TO THE AGENT PRIOR TO PESACH SHOULD NOT BE USED UNTIL AFTER 10:00 PM TUESDAY APRIL 18th, The Rav will be available to arrange for the sale of Chometz prior to Pesach. The traditional selling of all Chometz in our possession is a mandatory legal procedure required of everyone in order to assure a Chometz-free household. Please contact the Rabbi to arrange for your Mechiras Chometz after Shacharis, Mincha or Maariv..... SHTAR HARSHAW-AW DELEGATION OF POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR SALE OF CHOMETZ Know ye that I, the undersigned, fully empower and permit Rabbi Yossi Michalowicz to act in my place and stead, and in my behalf to sell all Chometz possessed by me (knowingly or unknowingly) as defined by the Torah and Rabbinic Law (eg. Chometz, doubt of Chometz and usable utensils, and all kinds of live animals that have been eating Chometz or mixtures thereof.) And to lease all places wherein the Chometz owned by me may be found. Rabbi Michalowicz has the full right to sell and to lease by transactions, as he deems fit and proper and for such time which he believes necessary in accordance with all detailed forms as explained in the general authorization contract which have been given this year to Rabbi Yossi Michalowicz to sell the Chometz. This general authorization is made a part of the agreement. 3 EREV PESACH CHECKLIST -Monday, April 10th 1. Fast of first-born attendance at Siyum or Seudas Mitzva absolves one from the fast. 2. No Chometz may be eaten after 10:37 A.M. Koshering utensils should be completed by this time. 3. Burn Chometz by 11:58 A.M. Make sure that Chametz has been sold by this time. 4. Remove vacuum cleaner bags and dust busters by 11:58 A.M. 5. Remove garbage to the street by 11:58 A.M. 6. Take a nap. 7. Light Yahrzeit (memorial) candle before traditional candle lighting. (in order to have a fire from which to light on the second day of Yom Tov) SEDER PREPARATIONS 1. Shank bone should be roasted. 2. Egg should be prepared. 3. Vegetable for Karpas should be prepared. 4. Lettuce or Romaine lettuce should be checked/prepared. 5. Horseradish should be ground and placed in a sealed container. 6. Charoses should be ground or chopped. 7. Saltwater should be prepared. 8. Seals on wine bottles should be opened. 9. Matza boxes should be opened. 10.Pillows brought down to the table. 11.Sufficient Haggadahs should be at the table. 12.Wine glasses should be measured to meet minimum requirement. 13.Saucers to be placed under wine glasses. 14.Chart for Matza and Maror minimum requirements at the table. 15.Washing basin should be ready in the kitchen. 16.Prepare Seder plate and Three Matzos. 17.Pour wine into decanters. 18.Prepare cover or towel for Afikoman. 19.Extra Matzas at the table. 20.Extra Maror in the fridge. 21.Kittel for men. 22. New clothing/jewelry for women.
