2 The Seder Plate Fact Sheet What Is On The Plate ח רוֹ סת Charoses How to Do It A mixture of apples, nuts, cinnamon and sweet red wine chopped and mixed together. Most people use a roasted chicken wing or neck. If these are not available, any portion of roast meat or chicken may be used. Why The Charoses reminds us of the clay and straw with which the Jews made bricks in Egypt. In addition, when eating the Bitter Herbs at the Seder, we first dip it into the Charoses. This is to weaken the bitter taste of the Bitter Herbs, just as the Jews in.גאולה Egypt weakened the bitterness by constantly thinking of the The זרוע is a reminder of the Passover Sacrifice, which was a lamb that was offered in the המקדש,בית then roasted and eaten as part of the meal on Seder night. Karpas symbolizes the back-breaking work of the Jews as slaves. The Hebrew letters of karpas can be arranged to spell Samech Perach. Perach means backbreaking work and Samech in numerical value equals 60, referring to the 600,000 Jewish males who were slaves in Egypt. In addition, the Karpas is a symbol of Spring the season which Pesach falls. Spring symbolizes hope and a new beginning. The Bitter Herbs symbolizes the bitter and harsh times the Jews had suffered while in slavery in Egypt. מ רוֹר Herbs Bitter בּ י צה - Egg The egg should be well boiled and then placed on the fire and roasted until it turns a little brown or burnt. -The egg is a reminder of the Holiday Sacrifice that was offered in the בית המקדש and eaten as part of the meal on Seder night. Even though this was meat, we use an egg, a symbol of mourning, to remind us that we are still mourning over the destruction of the holy Temple and cannot offer any sacrifices in honor of Passover. - When we cook an egg, it becomes harder and harder- just like the Jews. No matter the hardship, the Jews become stronger and stronger.
