(1) That Allâh may forgive you your sins of the past and the future, and complete His Favour on you, and guide you on the Straight Path; (2) And that Allâh may help you with strong help. (3) He it is Who sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and tranquility) into the hearts of the believers, that they may grow more in Faith along with their (present) Faith. And to Allâh belong the hosts of the heavens and the earth, and Allâh is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise. (4) That He may admit the believing men and the believing women to Gardens under which rivers flow (i.e. Paradise), to abide therein forever, and He may expiate from them their sins, and that is with Allâh, a supreme success, (5) And that He may punish the Munâfiqûn (hypocrites), men and women, and also the Mushrikûn men and women, who think evil thoughts about Allâh, for them is a disgraceful torment, And the Anger of Allâh is upon them, and He has cursed them and prepared Hell for them and worst indeed is that destination. (6) The competition in Ramadan is not about our outside but inside. If we don t have tranquility then it will be difficult to go forward. The Prophet (ﷺ) said there is no surah more beloved to him than the sunrise than Surah Al Fat h, subhan Allah. (جل جلاله) Surah Al Fat h is an opening, forgiveness and tranquility. It s an opening when the sins are forgiven, Allah completes His favors upon us, and guides us to the Straight Path. (جل جلاله) and Companions from performing umrah, but Allah (ﷺ) The disbelievers were trying to stop the Prophet opened something greater for them. The Prophet (ﷺ) dreamt entering Makkah, and when drafting the treaty with the disbelievers, everything seemed like the lower-hand for the believers. So Allah (جل جلاله) brought down tranquility upon them in order to accept and go forward. With belief, tranquility is brought down, and when there s tranquility then it will increase their faith afterwards, subhan Allah. Thus tranquility can only be attained with belief. The dream of the Prophet (ﷺ) will be fulfilled, and had they entered initially then they would have been in fear, but by being reformed afterwards, they entered with security. The deen needs to be apparent, visible and sufficient Allah (جل جلاله) as a Witness. The Prophet (ﷺ) is the Messenger of Allah and we need to follow his Sunnah. What are the qualities of the Companions? They are firm on the disbelievers, meaning they are firm with what is right and wrong, though they are merciful between each other, between the people of truth. They are bowing and prostrating. prayer is our connection to Allah (جل جلاله) and if our prayer is good then everything else will be good. We want our prayer to be in tranquility. We could be memorizing Quran or doing dawah, but if our prayer is not good then everything else will not be good. Page 1
It s important that we come to the prayer with tranquility, and not rush through it. The prayer is so great and a great distraction is the shaitan and there s even a shaitan dedicated to distracting our prayer. The wisdom behind the prayer is it forbids from indecency and wrong, it should change us a person. But if our prayer is not good then we will not change. What is the inner of the Companions? They re seeking favor from Allah (جل جلاله) and His pleasure. We have to ask ourselves, are we seeking Allah s favors and pleasure?. We can be more interested in seeking openings, booty, but Allah s pleasure is greater. There s a sign in their faces, and it s not a mark on their forehead, but a glow in their faces as a result of their.(جل جلاله) sujood. A person should submit and surrender to the commands and decrees of Allah So the real opening in Surah Al Fat h is the prayer and we need tranquility in our prayer. When we connect to Allah (جل جلاله) then we need to disconnect from other connections. It cannot be two connections at the same time otherwise we will not have tranquility. If we want tranquility then we should have.(جل جلاله) one connection with Allah Meaning of Prayer and Tranquility Prayer means connection, invocation and mercy. And tranquility is being at rest, and we get tranquility from faith. Two important keys of the prayer in order to have khushu are: o Presence of the heart: the heart should be gathered and not distracted with doubts, wiswas, wishes or desires. When we know Whom we re talking to then we ll have presence of the heart. o Understanding: to understand what s being said in the prayer Prayer with Tranquility (هللا أكبر) Akbar (1) Takbeerat Al Ihram saying Allahu We are standing in front of our Creator, in front of Al Hayy Al Qayoom, the One Who made us to stand upright. In this position we cannot eat or drink. We say Allahu Akbar because He is greater than anything great in our heart. In every transition in the prayer we say Allahu Akbar in order to bring ourselves back to focus which is Allahu Akbar. Anything that s big in our life then we ll think about it, so we need to bring back our attention to Allahu Akbar. (جل جلاله) We have look at the place of prostration and not look left or right. When we say Allahu Akbar then Allah places His Face in front of ours..(جل جلاله) Saying Allahu Akbar removes pride and arrogance and initiates humility and breaking before Allah (االستفتاح) (2) Opening supplication We need to begin by purifying ourselves and asking for forgiveness. There are different opening supplications and one of them is: Invocation for the Beginning of the Prayer Page 2
Glory is to You O Allah, Subhaanakallaahumma And praise. wa bihamdika Blessed is Your Name wa tabaarakasmuka And Exalted is Your Majesty. wa ta'aalaa jadduka There is none worthy of worship but You. wa laa 'ilaaha ghayruka (Sunan an-nasa'i 899) Those who are arrogant from the truth then Allah (جل جلاله) will divert His ayat away from them, astaghfar Allah. (أعوذ باهلل من الشيطان الرجيم) (3) I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed shaitan I seek refuge in Allah from Shaytaan, the outcast. A oodhu billaahi minash-shaytaanir-rajeem. (Muslim) There s an enemy which wants to distract us so we need to attack him first; this is the shaitan. Allah (جل جلاله) is the Lord and He can take the shaitan away. Allah (جل جلاله) is As Samee Al Aleem All-Hearing All-Knowing. The shaitan is our clear enemy and he will bring all the solutions we re looking for during the prayer and remind of things which we ve forgotten. So we enter and exit the prayer the same as a result of our distractions from the shaitan. When we seek refuge with Allah (جل جلاله) from the shaitan, we need to have presence of the heart and understanding. The shaitan is a great thief and he will steal our prayer. (البسملة) (4) Bism Allah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem. Page 3
When we say the besmellah, it s important that we understand what we re saying. We begin in the Name of.(جل جلاله) and there s no goodness or beauty except in the Name of Allah (جل جلاله) Allah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem is full of mercy and His mercy reaches all and a special mercy for those who believe in Him. It s by Allah s mercy to give us a connection to Him through the prayer. Sometimes we feel happy when.(جل جلاله) connecting with people we love, but we need to feel happier when connecting with Allah (سورة الفاتحة) (5) Surah Al Fatiha In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of existence the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgment. You (alone) we worship, and You (alone) we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path Guide us to the straight path. The way of those on whom You have granted Your grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your anger, nor of those who went astray..(جل جلاله) it s a dialogue between us and Allah ;(جل جلاله) Surah Al Fatiha is divided in two parts, between us and Allah Though it s not about saying what we want, but saying what Allah (جل جلاله) has taught to say what s suitable for Him. that we re all under His (جل جلاله) (Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds): we need to praise Allah ) الح مهد لل ر ب الع ال م ي ن ( Lordship and control. He nurtures us with commands, knowledge, decrees and people, even if it looks unfair ; it s all nurturing and elevation. We praise Him for His names, attributes and bounties. Alhamdulilah fills the Scale. And when we say Alhamdulilah, Allah (جل جلاله) will appreciate it and bring a blessing worthy for us to say alhamdulilah afterwards, subhan Allah. When we say All the praise is to Allah, the Lord of all that exists, Allah says: My servant has praised Me. because He s Disposing all (جل جلاله) (The Merciful, the Compassionate"): we need to think good of Allah ) الر حم ن الر ح ي م ( affairs. Allah (جل جلاله) will fulfill His Promise but it needs patience. We should never despair from His mercy; there s a solution to every problem. When we say ( الر حم ن الر ح ي م ), Allah says: My servant has extolled Me,. ("Master of the Day of Judgement"): we are not real owners because everything we have will be ) م ال ك ي و م الد ي ن ( removed from us, only the Dominion and Kingship of Allah (جل جلاله) will remain. When we say ( ك ي و م الد ي ن,(م ال Allah says: My servant has glorified Me. Page 4
("It is You we worship and it is You we ask for help".): this is the contract between us and ) إ ي اك ن عبه هد و إ ي ا ك ن ست ع ي هن ( Allah (جل جلاله) and it removes any shirk or self-amazement. We can t do anything without Allah s help. ("Guide us to the Straight Path,): the Sirat on the Day of Judgement is thinner than a hair (اهد ن ا الص ر اط الهمست ق ي م ( and sharper than a sword, and the relation with kith and kin / and the amanah will either push us forward or take us down. We need guidance from Allah (جل جلاله) to be on the Straight Path and we re asking guidance for all. What is the example of those who were on the Straight Path? (the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favors,): they are the ones whom Allah ) ص ر اط ال ذ ي ن أ نع م ت ع ل يه م ( them. bestowed His favor upon (جل جلاله) (nor of those who are astray): we don t ) و ل الض ال ي ن ( angry) (not of those against whom You are (غ ير الم غهضو ب ع ل يه م ( want to be like those who had knowledge but didn t act on it and not among those who acted but with no knowledge. respond. (Ameen): O Allah (آمين) Then we recite from the Quran and we should understand and interact with it. (ركوع) (6) Bowing We bow to Allah (جل جلاله) thus bending our back to Him. We magnify Him only and we will say: Glory to my Lord, the Exalted (3 Times) Subhaana Rabbiyal-'Adheem. It s forbidden to recite the Quran while bowing and sujood. Kallam Allah (جل جلاله) should be said while standing. Another supplication which can be said is: الل ه م ل ك ر ك ع ت و ب ك آم ن ت ول ك أ س ل م ت خ ش ع ل ك س م ع ي و ب ص ر ي و م خ ي و ع ظ م ي و ع ص ب ي Allaahumma laka raka tu wa bika aamantu, wa laka aslamt, Khasha a laka sam ee, wa baṣaree, wa mukh-khee, wa aẓmee, wa aṣabee O Allah, unto You I have bowed, and in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. My hearing, and my sight, and my mind, and my bones, and my tendons are humbled before You. (Sunan Abi Dawud 760, Authenticated by Al Albani as Sahih) (الرفع من الركوع) (7) Rising from bowing Allah responds to whoever praises Him. Sami'allaahu liman hamidah. Page 5
Our Lord, praise is Yours, Rabbanaa wa lakal-hamd. Only Allah (جل جلاله) can make us straight after being bent. Only He s worthy of all praises. Another supplication which can be said is: Note: This supplication is to be made while standing. س م ع هللا ل م ن ح م د ه Sami -allaahu liman ḥamidah Allah responds to him who praises Him. Rabbanaa [wa] lakal-ḥamdu ḥamd-an katheer-an ṭayyib-an mubaarak-an feeh mil -as-samawaati wa mil -al-arḍi wa maa baynahumaa wa mil a maa shi ta min shay in ba d ahl-ath-thanaa i wal-majd, aḥaqqu maa qaalal- abd, wa kullunaa laka abd Allaahumma laa maani a li maa a ṭayta wa laa mu ṭiya li maa mana ta wa laa yanfa u dhal-jaddi minkal-jadd Our Lord, to You belongs all praise, an abundant beautiful blessed praise. [a praise] that fills the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and all that You will. O Worthy of praise and glory, the truest thing a slave has said (of You) and we are all Your slaves. O Allah, none can prevent what You have willed to bestow and none can bestow what You have willed to prevent, and no wealth or majesty can benefit anyone, as from You is all wealth and majesty. (السجود) (8) Prostration (Sahih Muslim 477) We come down and prostrate to Allah,(جل جلاله) this is the closest we are to Allah.(جل جلاله) We are in one position but.(جل جلاله) we re moving at the same time, how? With our heart moving. We have value when we are near to Allah Glory is to my Lord, the Most High (3 Times) Subhaana Rabbiyal-A'laa... Allah (جل جلاله) is The Most High and is in the highest position though He will listen to us when we are in the lowest position. If we want to go up, we should bring ourselves down to Allah,(جل جلاله) if we want honor then we should Page 6
bring ourselves down to Allah.(جل جلاله) But when we exalt or attach to others then this is humiliation because we re attaching to something low. When we put anyone up in our life then Allah (جل جلاله) will bring them down in front of our eyes; this is the way of Allah.(جل جلاله) Everyone is human, people make mistakes and are full of faults. When we prostrate, we put our face on the ground and we can only do this for Allah ;(جل جلاله) this is honor. هل هل ة " إ ذ ا ق ر أ ( Hadith: When we make sujood, Iblis cries, subhan Allah. ع ن أ ب ي ههر ير ة ق ا ل ق ا ل ر هسو للا صلى للا عليه وسلم ابهن آد م الس جد ة ف س ج د اعت ز ل الش يط ا هن ي بك ي ي قهو ي ا و يل هه - و ف ي ر و اي أ ب ي هكر يب ي ا و يل ي - أهم ر ابهن آد م ب الس هجو د ف س ج د ف ل هه الج ن ةه و أهم رهت (t is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that when, the son of Adam recites the Ayat (ب الس هجود ف أ ب يهت ف ل ي الن ا هر " of Sajdah (prostration) and then falls down in prostration, the Satan goes into seclusion and weeps and says: Woe unto me, the son of Adam was commanded to prostrate, and he prostrated and Paradise was entitled to him and I was commanded to prostrate, but I refused and am doomed to Hell.) - Sahih Muslim 81 We should increase in dua while in sujood. The sujood position is the following: o Make sure these body parts are touching the floor in the sujood position the forehead along with the tip of the nose, both hands, both knees, the toes of both feet, and make sure that your belly is away from your thighs. o The 2 hands should point to the Qiblah with the fingers close to one another o The forehead and the nose should be firmly placed on the ground o The toes should point towards the Qiblah o The feet should touch each other o Your arms and elbows should be away from the ground Another supplication for sujood which can be said is: الل ه م اغ ف ر ل ي ذ ن ب ي ك ل ه د ق ه و ج ل ه و أ و ل ه و آخ ر ه و ع الن ي ت ه و س ر ه Allaahumm-agh-fir lee dhambee kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, wa awwalahu wa aakhirahu, wa alaaniyatahu wa sirrah O Allah, forgive me all of my sins, the small and great of them, the first and last of them, and the seen and hidden of them. (Muslim 483) (الجلسة بين السجدتين) (9) Sitting between the two prostrations My Lord forgive me, My Lord forgive me. Rabbighfir lee, Rabbighfir lee. Another dua: O Allah, forgive me, Allaahum-maghfir lee Page 7
Have mercy on me, warhamnee Guide me, wahdinee Mend me, wajburnee Protect me, wa 'aafinee Provide for me, warzuqnee And elevate me. warfa'nee (Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, At-Tirmithi) Then we go to a second prostration. This is completion of one unit. (التشهد) (10) Tashahud Here you say: All greetings of humility are for Allah, Attahiyyaatu lillaahi And all prayers, wassalawaatu And goodness. wattayyibaatu Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. assalaamu 'alayka 'ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu Page 8
Peace be upon us assalaamu 'alaynaa And upon the righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. wa 'alaa 'ibaadillaahis-saaliheen 'Ash-hadu 'an laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu wa 'ash-hadu 'anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasooluhu (Al-Bukhari 831).(جل جلاله) all greetings belong to Allah :(التحيات هلل ( You. all prayers and connections belong to :(والصلوات).(جل جلاله) all goodness belongs to Allah :(والطيبات) which means we are (ﷺ) we send peace, blessings and mercy to the Prophet :(السالم عليك أيها النبي ورحمة هللا و بركاته (.(ﷺ) to protect the Sunnah of the Prophet (جل جلاله) asking Allah us. send peace upon all of :(السالم علينا ( righteous. knows who are the (جل جلاله) Allah.(جل جلاله) and peace upon all righteous slaves of Allah :(وعلى عباد هللا الصالحين ( witness. here you bear :(أشهد أن ال اله اال هللا و أشهد أن محمد رسول هللا ( Final testimony: How to Recite Blessings on the Prophet After the Tashahhud O Allah, bestow your favor on Muhammad And on the family of Muhammad As You have bestowed Your favor on Ibrahim and on the family of Ibrahim, You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. (التسليم) (11) Tasleem Allaahumma 'innee 'a'oodhu bika min 'adhaabi jahannama wa min 'adhaabil-qabri wa min fitnatil-mahyaa walmamaati wa min sharri fitnatil-maseehid-dajjaal.. j.
