Surah An Naziat (Ayah 15-19) This surah began with Allah س بحان ه وت عال ى swearing by the angels. The subject of the swear was about the س بحان ه وت عال ى day of judgement- about the people who are denying it but nobody can escape it. Now Allah mentions about the story of Musa ع 222 ليه الس 222 الم and Firawn. This surah begins by Allah س 222 بحان 222 ه وت 222 عال 222 ى telling us about the angels removing the souls of the disbelievers. Firawn was the most wicked disbeliever. Allah.عليه السالم tells us how he dealt with him and Musa سبحانه وتعالى ه ل أ ت اك ح د يث م وس ى -15 Ayah Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)?.جاء means to come with ease; not struggle like أتى The word The word حديث means speech, story about some incident. The story which came to the Prophet صلى اهلل عليه وسلم is like a speech, it came easily to him. Allah س 2222 بحان 2222 ه وت 2222 عال 2222 ى knows he sent story to the Prophet ص 2222 لى اهلل ع 2222 ليه وس 2222 لم. This question does not mean that Allah سبحانه وتعالى wants an answer to His question, but there are implications to the question. Allah س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى tells the Prophet ص 22 لى اهلل ع 22 ليه وس 22 لم this ayah [اهلل] ت 22 عال 22 ى ل 22 نبيه مح 22 مد ص 22 لى اهلل ع 22 ليه وس 22 لم).(ي 22 قول This.(وهذا االستفهام عن أمر عظيم متحقق وقوعه ( occur is a question about a great matter that will It is mentioned in the form of a question to show it is something important. It is also a wise way to start a conversation with a question. س ب 2 ح 2 ان ه To put it simply the ayah means, Did the speech of Musa come of you when he spoke to Allah?وتعالى Allah س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى is telling the Prophet ص 22 لى اهلل ع 22 ليه وس 22 لم about Musa الس 22 الم.ع 22 ليه Allah س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى sent him س بحان ه وت عال ى to firawn and supported him with miracles. Firawn continued his rebellious way until Allah seized him in punishment. This is the consequence of those who disbelieve like firawn. He disbelieved the messenger who came with all proof and miracles. Allah سبحانه وتعالى is consoling the Prophet صلى اهلل عليه وسلم as people also disbelieved in message. هل اتاك خبره you? To put it simply, the ayah means, Did his story come to إ ذ ن اد اه ر ب ه ب ال و اد امل ق د س ط و ى -16 Ayah When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, The word نادى means to call with a loud voice. -! 1-

The word رب ه shows that when Allah س بحان ه وت عال ى is calling Musa ع ليه الس الم this is nurturing and care for ع 22 ليه raised him up. There were so many unique incidents in life of Musa س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى Allah.ع 22 ليه الس 22 الم Musa His mother put him in the river, he grew up in the house of firawn, he killed a person and later he.ال 2 س الم ع 22 ليه الس 22 الم spoke to him. He did not speak to Musa س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى was a shepherd- it is after all this that Allah earlier than this. This shows Allah سبحانه وتعالى knows the best time. The word واد means a valley between mountains..عليه السالم spoke to Musa سبحانه وتعالى is the specific name of that valley in which Allah املقدس طوى The word The word املقدس is from تقديس - it is so pure and blessed. The name of Allah القدوس is blessed and pure. Allah سبحانه وتعالى called that valley in which He spoke to Musa عليه السالم pure and blessed. In another ayah, Allah س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى tells us that when Musa ع 22 ليه الس 22 الم was moving to Egypt with his family, he saw a fire and only he went there. As he entered the place, he was told take off your shoes - this shows it is a sacred place. Allah سبحانه وتعالى chooses whatever place He wills to be sacred. The name of this valley is Tuwa or Tur. This is the place in which Allah س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى spoke to him, املح 22 ل ال 22 ذي ك 22 لمه اهلل ف 22 يه) (وه 22 و that is why this is really a sacred place. Allah س 222 بحان 222 ه وت 222 عال 222 ى favoured him with the message. ع 222 ليه ب 222 ال 222 رس 222 ال 222 ة) (وام 222 نت and specially chose to ع 2 ليه الس 2 الم chose Musa س 2 بحان 2 ه وت 2 عال 2 ى From all the people Allah.(واخ 2 تصه ب 2 ال 2 وح 2 ي واالج 2 تباء) give him the revelation to be his messenger..(كلمه نداء) voice. He spoke to him by calling him with a In another ayah it is mentioned that when Allah س 222 بحان 222 ه وت 222 عال 222 ى spoke to the angels, they fainted. This shows that to hear the call of Allah سبحانه وتعالى really needs nurturing, Allah س 2222 بحان 2222 ه وت 2222 عال 2222 ى called him in the pure valley امل 2222 قدس).(ب 2222 ال 2222 واد This shows that Allah س 2222 بحان 2222 ه وت 2222 عال 2222 ى chooses what is the blessed pure place. Also, we can only seek from Allah س بحان ه وت عال ى to get purity and blessings. May Allah purify our hearts. Ameen..(طوى وهو اسم الوادي) The name of the valley is tuwa اذ ه ب إ ل ى ف ر ع و ن إ ن ه ط غ ى 17 Ayah Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). This is a good example for the art of speech- Allah س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى is teaching Musa ع 22 ليه الس 22 الم how to speak to firawn. -! 2-

Notice that the prayer was ordained upon the Prophet ص لى اهلل ع ليه وس لم from the heavens. He went up to receive the honour of prayer. On the other hand, Allah س 2222 بحان 2222 ه وت 2222 عال 2222 ى spoke to Musa ع 2222 ليه الس 2222 الم while he was.سبحانه وتعالى on earth. This is the ability of Allah The word طغى means to exceed the boundaries. Allah س 2 بحان 2 ه وت 2 عال 2 ى commanded Musa ع 2 ليه الس 2 الم to specifically go to firawn to forbid him from exceeding his.(فانهه عن طغيانه وشركه وعصيانه) boundaries, doing shirk and disobedience Notice that Musa ع ل 2 ي 2 ه ال 2 س الم was not commanded to go to anybody else; Firawn has so much power that everybody followed him and to speak to Firawn was a big task by itself..(بقول لني وخطاب لطيف) to do this with gentle, soft words عليه السالم commanded Musa سبحانه وتعالى Allah س 2222 بحان 2222 ه وت 2222 عال 2222 ى Nobody is worse than firawn, so there is no excuse to talk harshly with anybody else. If Allah didn't tell Musa ع ل 22 ي 22 ه ال 22 س الم to talk harshly with firawn, then it is not acceptable to speak harshly with anybody else- not to our children, or those who work for us. Nobody deserves harshness. Speak gently to him in order he will either remember or he will fear. This is the result of gentle speech. Don t be deceived and think that one needs to be harsh in order to make others afraid. In reality, if you speak softly, either your softness will remind them or it will make them afraid. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of (ﷺ) Allah said: "Allah is Gentle and loves gentleness, and He grants reward for it that He does not grant for harshness. [Sunan Ibn Majah 3688].(تجرد وتمرد وعتى) Firawn was dominating, rebellious, exaggerating ف ق ل ه ل ل ك إ ل ى أ ن ت ز ك ى -18 Ayah And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)", Now Allah سبحانه وتعالى explains what is that soft speech which Musa عليه السالم needs to tell firawn. The word تزكى means increment. You find the art of speech in this ayah. Allah س 2 بحان 2 ه وت 2 عال 2 ى did not command Musa ع 2 ليه الس 2 الم to go to Firawn and tell him You are transgressing or Become Muslim. The conversation began with a question and not -! 3-

with a command. Firawn is a leader; it is not suiting to command him. Nobody like others to dictate over them. Even though Firawn is transgressing his boundaries, yet he was addressed in such a beautiful manner. Also, he is being asked, would you like to be better?, he is not being asked would you like to go to Paradise?. This is how to address a tyrant. This shows that we need to speak to people according to their level. Also, don t put down anybody because they made mistake. Notice that his explanation is based on the whole Quran. He explains this ayah saying, Is it possible for you to have a praised character, which deserves beautiful ه 22 ل ل 22 ك ف 22 ي خ 22 صلة ح 22 ميدة ومح 22 مدة ج 22 ميلة ي 22 تناف 22 س ف 22 يها) get? praise, which the men of understanding are competing to (أولو األلباب إلى اإليمان والعمل الصالح What is this good character which you would like to have? To purify yourself and to purify it from وه 2222 ي أن ت 2222 زك 2222 ي ن 2222 فسك وتطه 2222 ره 2222 ا م 2222 ن دن 2222 س ال 2222 كفر) deeds. disbelief and transgression with the faith and righteous good.(والطغيان Everybody want to be pure. It is in our fitrah. We notice this in small children- they don t like to be dirty. The nature of human being is that you want to be beautiful, pure, clean. Shaithan is teaching people to be dirty, wicked. This is the right approach- telling him about beautiful things. Purity is by faith and righteous good deeds. He explained this ayah saying, Is it possible that you will respond to a path by which you will be purified ) هل لك أن تجيب إلى طريقة ومسلك تزكى به وتسلم وتطيع) obedience? through submission and When you submit and obey Allah وتعالى,سبحانه it is out of belief and through righteous good deeds. In general, when you have more prepositions in a speech it is a sign of showing more respect. Imagine the state of Musa الس الم.ع ليه He left Egypt in fear after he accidentally killed a person. Now he is being commanded to go back to the same people. He went through so much nurturing, when he left Egypt he was strong but through the nurturing of Allah س 22 بحان 22 ه وت 22 عال 22 ى he became calmer and more humble. It is so challenging- what will they think about me? He had changed so much. We learn that by escaping we cannot solve our problems. When we have to go back to the same situations or people, we need to overcome ourselves and face the problem. We need to watch our reactions, bring change in ourselves and face our fears. This is how to have the victory. -! 4-

و أ ه د ي ك إ ل ى ر ب ك ف ت خ ش ى -19 Ayah And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him? ع ل 2 ي 2 ه ال 2 س الم The previous ayah is telling Firawn what he will get in the end. This ayah is about what Musa will do. The word هدى means guide to the path, to show the way. Notice that he is inviting Firawn to your Rabb and not to himself. When he will be guided to his Rabb, then he will fear Allah with knowledge. The word تخشى means to fear with knowledge. He explained this ayah saying, Musa ع ليه الس الم is telling Firawn, I will lead you to and I will make it clear.(أدلك عليه وأبني لك مواقع رضاه من مواقع سخطه) Wrath. for you the places of His Pleasure and His For example, when we tell people to be patient, we need to tell them the ways to be patient. Here Musa way. is saying, if you want to purify yourself, I will show you the عليه السالم Knowing the actions of Allah وت 2 عال 2 ى,س 2 بحان 2 ه leads a good heart to fear Him with knowledge. When you learn about how to earn the pleasure of Allah and how to protect oneself from His wrath, it will lead to fearing Him with knowledge. This leads to knowledge of the straight path. The messengers show us the straight path by telling us the actions of Allah وتعالى -سبحانه how He is reforming, nurturing and taking care of all our affairs all the time. Fearing Allah سبحانه وتعالى begins with knowledge about Him. إ ن م ا ي خ ش ى اهلل م ن ع ب اد ه ال ع ل م اء It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah. [Surah Fatir 35:28] He explains this ayah saying, Musa ع ل 2 ي 2 ه ال 2 س الم is talking Firawn, I will show you how you worship your Lord. إلى ربك أي أدلك إلى عبادة ربك).(وأهديك To have fear with knowledge (خشي) is a worship of the heart. The word أتاك هل in the Qur an ه ل أ ت اك ح د يث ض ي ف إ ب ر اه يم امل ك ر م ني Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibrael (Gabriel) along with another two] of Ibrahim (Abraham)? But you did hide in yourself (i.e. what Allah has already made known to you that He will give her to you in marriage) that which Allah will make manifest, you did fear the people (i.e., Muhammad SAW married the divorced wife of his manumitted slave) whereas Allah had a better right that you should fear Him. So when Zaid had accomplished his desire from her (i.e. divorced her), We gave her to you in marriage, so that (in future) there may be no difficulty to the believers in respect of (the marriage of) the wives of their adopted sons when the latter have no desire to keep them (i.e. they have divorced them). And Allah's Command must be fulfilled. [Surah Al Ahzab 33:37] -! 8-
