Michel Khoury Parish Council Chairman: Salim Qaru Sunday, December 15 th, 2013 Parish Council Election December 15 th after the Divine Liturgy On Sunday, December 15 th, there will be a parish Council election meeting for the sole purpose of electing some members of the Parish Council for the coming term. Three are to be elected and one to be appointed by the Pastor. This annual process will keep the membership of 12 complete. Each elected/appointed member serves for three years. Nominating committee is in formation. NO NOMINATION FROM THE FLOOR the deadline was Sunday, Dec. 8 th. In order to vote in the elections, members must be in spiritual and financial good standing with the Church. 2 THE GOSPEL Luke (14:16-24)- The Lord spoke this parable: A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many; and at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, Come; for all is now ready. But, one by one, they all began to make excuses. The first said to him, I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame. And the servant said, Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room. And the master said to the servant, Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet. For many are called, but few are chosen. اإلنجيل: لوقا 43-11:13 قال الرب هذا المثل: انسان صنع عشاء عظيما ودعا كثيرين فأرسل عبده في ساعة العشاء يقول للمدعوين: تعالوا فإن كل شيء قد أ عد. فطفق كلهم واحد فواحد يستعفون. فقال له األول: قد اشتريت حقال وال بد لي ان أخرج وأنظره فأسألك ان تعفيني. وقال اآلخر: قد اشتريت خمسة فدادين بقر وانا ماض ألجر بها فأسألك ان تعفيني. وقال اآلخر: قد تزوجت امرأة فلذلك ال أستطيع ان أجيء. فأتى العبد وأخبر سي ده بذلك. فحينئذ غضب رب البيت وقال لعبده: اخرج سريعا الى شوارع المدينة وأزقتها وأ دخ ل المساكين والجدع والعميان والعرج الى ههنا. فقال العبد: يا سيد قد ق ضي ما أ مرت به ويبقى ايضا محل. فقال السيد للعبد: اخرج الى الطرق واألسيجة واضطررهم الى الدخول حتى يمتلئ بيتي. فإني اقول لكم انه ال يذوق عشائي احد من اولئك الرجال المدعوين ألن المدعوين كثيرون والمختارين قليلون. From the heights thou didst descend, o compassionate one, and thou didst submit to the three-day burial, that thou might deliver us from passion; thou art our life and our resurrection, o lord, glory to thee. Thou hast justified by faith the ancient Forefathers, and through them Thou hast gone before and betrothed unto Thyself the Church of the Gentiles. Let the saints, therefore, take pride in glory; for from their seed sprouted forth a noble fruit, and she it was who gave birth to Thee without seed. Wherefore, by their pleadings, O Christ God, save our souls. Thou hast become like the Apostles in their states, a successor to their throne, finding indeed the intelligential ladder, O thou God-inspired. Today the Virgin cometh to the cave where she will give birth in an ineffable manner to the Word Who is before all the ages. Sunday of the Holy Forefathers On this Sunday the Church commemorates the Holy Forefathers, i.e. the earthly ancestors of our Lord Jesus Christ, beginning with the first man, Adam, and on through Seth, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, King David, and others. These ancient people, separated from us by millennia, nevertheless have a direct and close bearing upon us, contemporary Orthodox Christians. What connection is there between them and us? In general, the Church brings them to our attention now, right before Christmas, largely because of their faith their belief in the promise given by God to Adam during his expulsion from the garden of Eden, that in the end a Saviour will come into the world and will redeem mankind from original sin. All the forefathers who lived on earth long before the birth of Christ lived and burned with this faith, never allowing it to be extinguished. They are a shining example to us, who are living on earth after the incarnation of our Lord. Just like those ancient people we, too, have never actually seen Christ: they only knew that He would come into the world, while we know that He did come into the world. But they firmly believed in His coming and their faith was justified.we are expected to have even greater faith. We must believe that the Lord was, and is, and will be; that He lived on earth as a man; that through His Church He remains with us constantly; and that He will again return to earth to judge mankind. But for such a faith the Lord Himself promises us eternal bliss. When Jesus Christ appeared before the doubting Apostle Thomas, who could not believe in the Lord s resurrection unless he actually touched Christ s wounds, and upon touching them cried out: My Lord and my God!, then the Lord said to the apostle: Because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed; but blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. But apart from faith there is something else that binds us closely with the ancient forefathers and that is their faithfulness to the awaited Messiah. They lived surrounded by a pagan world a world which did not yet know Christ, but which had already rejected God. We too, dear brethren, live in a similar and even worse situation. For nineteen centuries after the birth of Christ the world lived with Christ and the Christian culture, but in the 20th century an abrupt change took place. We now live in a post-christian era, in a world that has once again become totally immersed in paganism. We often hear mention of the arrival of a new age. However, there is nothing new in this new age except for its more modern form. It is the same old rejection of God and even negation of God, and moreover a complete rejection of Christ and profanation of Christ. Most Christians do not even see how they are perverting their Christian faith in trying to modernize it, and how they are betraying Christ in attempting to unite with the religions of His persecutors and abusers. And so, dear brethren, against the background of this horrifying world, let us remember not only the faith of the Holy Forefathers, but also their faithfulness to Christ the Saviour; and as we prepare very soon to celebrate His Nativity, let us turn away from the paganism that surrounds us, and let us witness our total devotion and loyalty to the One Who said: Lo, I am with you until the end of time. 5 أحد األجداد اليوم ذكرى ألجداد المخل ص "الذين كانوا قبل الشريعة وبعد الشريعة". ونعني بهم الذين كانوا في الوثنية ومن كان موح دا مثل ابراهيم وذريته. فللسيد المبارك ن س ب في إنجيل متى يعود الى ابراهيم ون س ب آخر في إنجيل لوقا يعود إلى آدم ذلك ان هذا األخير اراد ان ي ظهر في إنجيله ان يسوع مخل ص العالم كله وينحدر. وتقول صالة الغروب عن هؤالء ان المسيح "عظ مهم في جميع األمم" وتقول عنهم صالة الس ح ر انهم "برأي مستقيم تعب دوا للرب السيد" وانهم "متمتعون اآلن بنوره الذي ال يغرب". وتريد الخدمة اإللهية ان قيامة الرب انعكست ليس فقط على ابناء ابراهيم ولكن على من سبقوه في األمم الوثنية. وفي من ذكرتهم الخدمة ملكيصاداق الذي كان ملك اورشليم قبل تهو دها واستفاض الحديث عنه كاتب الرسالة الى العبرانيين انه ملك السالم "وليس له أب وال ام وال ن س ب". وهو الذي بارك ابراهيم. وفكر هذه الرسالة ان المسيح لم يكن على رتبة الوي الذي منه انحدر الكهنوت اليهودي ولكن المسيح قالت فيه المزامير: " انت كاهن الى األبد على رتبة ملكيصاداق". هذا يعني ان الحقيقة لم تكن محصورة في اليهود ولكن عرفها بإلهام إلهي أبرار عاشوا خارج الخط الذي أتانا من ابراهيم. وهذا يعني ان المخلص ليس وريث العهد القديم وحده ولكنه وارث لكل حق وخير وجمال ظهر في األمم. وقد أكد احد المعلمين الكبار اوريجانيس ان الله كان يحفظ الهند بالمالئكة وان كل شيء لم يكن مغلوطا في الهند وفي غيرها. كذلك عل م القديس يوستينوس الفيلسوف الشهيد الذي عاش في القرن الثاني ان الله كانت له كلمات مبثوثة في الخل ق كله وان هذه الكلمات هيأت لظهور الكلمة اإللهي. قولنا ان المسيح هو كلمة الله الذي جاء به كل الحق وال نحتاج الى رسالة اخرى من بعده االاننا قادرون ان نتبين إلهامات إلهية هنا وهناك في معتقدات ظهرت قبل التجسد وبعد التجسد. كل ما كان حقيقيا وطاهرا عند هذا وذاك من غير المسيحين هو بالضرورة منحدر من روح يسوع. لذلك نسعى الى كل فكر صحيح أن ى و جد. ذلك ان المسيح ليس موضوعا في قفص. انه المخل ص الذي يحوي في نفسه كل قولة جميلة في العالم وهذا ليس فقط في الرساالت الدينية ولكن في الفلسفة واالجتماع. ان كل صرخة حق صدى لما كانه وقاله. ان كل نضال في سبيل الفقراء وكل تقويم للفكر وكل تقدم حقيقي في البشرية من روحه. كل عذوبة كل رحمة كل لطف أن ى وجدناها نحن منها وهي منا. فاذا اقمنا احد األجداد اليوم نكون ممتدين الى كل الخيرات التي سبقت ظهور المعل م وتو اقين الى كل الجماالت التي تجل ت من بعده أفي الجماعة المسيحية بدت ام خارج هذه الجماعة. المسيح لم يولد ألجل المسيحيين فقط ولكنه يولد من المسيحيين من محبتهم ونقاوتهم. كذلك يتكون في كل القلوب المحبة للحق. اجل اإلنجيل هو المحك ولكن اذا رافقه انسان ال يقول به فهذا اإلنسان منا. المسيح كائن في نفوس أتباعه وفي نفوس غير اتباعه. )رعيتي( ظهور المسيح: في هذه الرسالة الى أهل كولوسي يكل منا بولس على مجيء المسيح الثاني ويسم يه ظهور ا. هذا عند حدوثه ت ظهرون أنتم حينئذ معه في المجد. ظهوركم في المجد وليس في الظالم يفترض انكم قضيتم على شهواتكم وبالفضائل ح ل عليكم النور. وهنا يعدد فئتين من الرذائل: الفئة األولى تتضم ن بخاصة ما ي رتكب في الجسد باإلضافة الى الطمع الذي يقول عنه الرسول انه عبادة وثن ألنه عبادة المال الذي يعتبره الكاتب وثنا.ثم يهدد بنزول غضب هللا على أبناء العصيان ومنهم مسيحيون اذا سقطوا فيها بعد معمودي تهم. ويفترض ان المهتدين الى اإليمان ال يرتكبونها كما يعرف انهم سلكوا قديما فيها. يؤمن بولس ان من اهتدى الى المسيح يهتدي ايضا الى فضائل المسيح. بعد قوله هذا ينتقل الرسول الى فئة أخرى من الشهوات: الغضب والسخط والخبث والتجديف والكالم القبيح والكذب. هذه خطايا ت رتك ب خارج الجسد. بعضها باللسان كالتجديف والشتائم والكذب وغيرها بالفكر مثل الخبث. ليس ان هذه الشهوات هي كل الشهوات. آباؤنا النساك قاموا بعد العصر الرسولي بتصنيفها وطرق مكافحتها. االنسان الغارق فيها يسميه بولس اإلنسان العتيق اي الذي لم ينل بعد نعمة المعمودية واما الذي لبس المسيح فيسم يه اإلنسان الجديد الذي يتجد د دائما بالنعمة للمعرفة اي لمعرفة هللا وذوقه ومحبته وطاعته فيصير بشكل ساطع على صورة خالقه وعند هذا التجديد ال يبقى فرق في الكنيسة بين يوناني وال يهودي. تزول العنصرية واالنتماءات القديمة. وما يرادف هاتين الكلمتين لفظتا الختان )اليهود( والقلف )الوثني ين(. وكذلك يزول الفرق بين بربري )ال ينطق اليوناني ة( واسكيثي و هؤالء كانوا قوما لهم حضارة كبيرة في جنوب روسيا بنوع خاص. ثم يزول الفرق بين العبد والحر الذي كان قائما في االمبراطورية الروماني ة وانضم الى الكنيسة عبيد وأحرار وهم في الكنيسة إخوة ولو بقي التفريق القانوني بينهم. بعد ذلك بكثير زال نظام الرق واليوم يعتبرون انه ضد حقوق اإلنسان. طبعا ما بش ر بولس إللغاء نظام الرق. فقد كان قائما. ان ما قال نحن ال نعتبره في الكنيسة ونساوي بين العبد والحر. وبقي بعض المسيحيين عندهم عبيد ولكن هم كانوا يعاملونهم كإخوة. لماذا تزول هذه الفوارق ألن المسيح يقول الرسول هو كل شيء وفي الجميع. )رعيتي(
