3 MESSAGE FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR I am very delighted to welcome all the participants of INDRADHANUSHYA 2012 organised by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded. This is a young university committed to academic excellence and social justice. Established in 1994, this University has tried its best to become one of the premier universities of Maharashtra and we also hope to excel at the national level. The beautiful campus of the University sprawls over 500 acres and currently provides a hospitable atmosphere to 2,000 students, nearly 200 highly qualified and committed teachers and teaching associates and a sizable number of well-trained administrative staff. The student profile of this University is diverse and multicultural. The University campus also boasts of hosting the largest number of foreign students in Maharashtra. The University strives to provide students with the best of infrastructure in the form of modern buildings, well-equipped laboratories, etc. for achieving academic excellence. However, we understand well that infrastructure alone does not guarantee quality. We believe that a life of success also has to be a life of quality and values. A pervasive fear felt today is that youth is lost to the glittering world of fashion, entertainment and advertisements. It is also feared that today s youth has moved far from the world of creativity, arts, sports, reading, etc. However, the splendid performance of our young sportspersons at the London Olympics is a ray of hope. The Indian performers at the Olympics have become a source of inspiration for the youth today. The INDRADHANUSHYA 2012 is organised with the belief that enough opportunities should be provided to the students who are hard-working, deserving and diligent. In the fast-changing globalised world, today s youth will have to develop altogether different capabilities and qualities to fulfill their potential. If youth is to be seen as power inthe-making, the colleges and the universities must commit to providing youth not only with world-class facilities, but also with democratic space essential for multidimensional development. I promise to offer you all the best facilities possible and every comfort during your stay on the University Campus. My best wishes are with you. Dr. Sarjerao Nimse Vice-Chancellor 3

6 ABOUT NANDED CITY Nanded is today one of the fastest growing cities of Maharashtra. It is an important political and commercial hub of the Marathwada region. Nanded has also been mentioned in the Lilacharitra, a treatise written about 700 years ago by Mhaimbhatt. Guru Gobind Singhji, the tenth spiritual leader of the Sikhs, came to Nanded, and made it his permanent abode.
