1 Spring Quarter, 2018 Junior Visuals Instruction Booklet See the Junior Teacher s Guide for detailed instructions for using each visual. Item 1 Theme Banner for the Spring Quarter. The banner can be cut in strips or used as is. Display the banner on a wall in the learning center or over a bulletin board. Item 2 Be Kind to Others poster for Unit 1. Display the poster on a bulletin board or wall in the learning center. Encourage learners to design the kindness calendar and commit to do a daily kindness for others. Pictures can be cut from magazines and old literature and glued or taped in each day s space on the calendar. Item 3 Forgiveness poster for Unit 2. Display the poster on a bulletin board or wall in the learning center. Encourage learners to read the examples of forgiveness listed on the poster that are demonstrated in the lives of Bible characters. Item 4 Forgiveness Arrow, Forgiveness Pleases God. A l l arrows will be mounted on Forgiveness poster, Item 3. Cut out then glue arrow to a piece of poster board. Cut the arrow out. Glue a support (Item 8) on the feather end of the arrow. Then, attach arrow to the Forgiveness poster with pushpins or tape. It will stand out away from the poster, giving a three-dimensional effect. Item 5 Forgiveness Arrow, Jealousy Hinders Forgiveness. Forgive Guilty People. Follow instructions for Item 4. Item 6 Forgiveness Arrow, Forgive Guilty People. Follow instructions for Item 4. Item 7 Forgiveness Arrow, Forgiven People Show Appreci ation. Follow instructions for Item 4. Item 8 Support pattern. Use pattern to make supports to mount arrows on Forgiveness poster. It will give a three-dimensional effect to the poster. You will need four copies of the pattern (one for each arrow). Item 9 Generosity Begins with Love poster for Unit 3. Have learners add bricks beneath the cross and hands around the cross, copied from patterns in visuals. Display poster on a bulletin board or wall in the learning center. Item 10 Brick pattern. Have learners cut bricks from brown grocery bags then write on them suggestions for simple service projects and attach the bricks beneath the cross. Item 11 Hand pattern. Have learners cut copies of hand pattern from construction paper. Write on the hands service projects they completed during the week and cluster the hands around the cross. Item 12 Unit 1, Salvation Poster. See Unit 1 page in teacher s guide, for instructions. Use the salvation poster to help lost learners understand God s kindness to provide salvation for all people. Item 13 Unit 2, Salvation Poster. See Unit 2 page in teacher s guide, for instructions. Use the salvation poster to help lost learners understand God s love and forgiveness extended to them. Item 14 Unit 3, Salvation Poster. See Unit 3 page in teacher s guide, for instructions. Use the salvation poster to help lost learners apply the concept of God s love and generosity in giving up His only Son to save them from the penalty of sin. Lesson 1 March 4, 2018 Sing or read the words of visual 1-1, Under His Wings, song to help learners understand what is meant by being under God s wings. Make a copy of visual 1-1, song, for each learner. Make one copy of visual 1-2, Praise Capsules Photomaster. Cut capsules apart. Roll up in capsule fashion and fasten with a small dot of glue or small piece of tape. Put Praise Capsules in a large medicine bottle. Distribute Praise Capsules to learners and encourage them to praise God continually. Learners will take one from the bottle, unroll and follow the instructions during the Final Activity. Lesson 2 March 11, 2018 Have learners choose Serving Elders strips, visual 2-1, following the Bible story and name older church members they may serve. Lesson 3 March 18, 2018 Have learners play Name Tag using visual 3-1, Name Tags, to teach learners they should take the initiative to welcome
2 visitors and help them feel wanted. You may need to make additional copies. Use visual 3-2, Three Arrows, in relation to the Say section in the teacher s guide and following the Bible story on page 12 in the Junior Learner s Manual. Display visual 3-3, What Kindness Is teaching picture, to demonstrate that kindness is the opposite of being self-centered. Lesson 4 March 25, 2018 Use visuals 4-1 and 4-2 flash cards following the Bible story to show the difference in David s and Saul s feelings toward each other. Cut out visual 4-3, People with God s Heart flash cards, and give to four volunteers and have them read Bible verses aloud. Encourage learners to understand that their actions often determine how others treat them. Use visual 4-4, A Skunk or a Magnet? teaching picture, to show how a person s attitude or actions can draw people or drive them away. Lesson 5 April 1, 2018 Display figures 5-1, Stephen s Sermon to Council, 5-2, Stoning Stephen, and 5-3, Stephen Died, during the Bible story in the order numbered. Read the charges the Jews and Stephen made against each other, visual 5-4, Charges teaching picture. Show figures 5-1, Stephen s Sermon, and 5-5, Joseph Forgives, to compare their acts of forgiveness. Lesson 6 April 8, 2018 Visuals 6-1 and 6-2 are Easy, Hard flash cards. Following the Bible story, have two groups of learners use the flash cards to signal answers to questions. Lesson 7 April 15, 2018 Use visual 7-1, Bible Relationship tags, during Lesson Set to help learners understand they are involved in relationships by birth and by choice. Visuals 7-2 through 7-4 task cards guide learners to accept the teaching that forgiveness is not holding guilty people responsible. Lesson 8 April 22, 2018 Have pairs of learners standing in a circle support visuals 8-1, Using Possessions, 8-2, Using Influence, 8-3, Using Money and 8-4, Using Time flash cards by holding the ends of yarn that have been attached to each visual. Help learners understand they should use whatever they have and do whatever they can to advance the cause of Christ in their world by using those things God has given them for the benefit of others. See illustration in teacher s guide. Lesson 9 April 29, 2018 Place one of the Sharing squares, visual 9-1, on the wristsquares of learners to help them understand Christians must be involved in each other s burdens, problems, joys and triumphs. Give learners checkbooks made with copies of visual 9-2 Photomaster, I Love, I Care, I Share Checks. Lead them to compare Abigail s generosity with their own. Lesson 10 May 6, 2018 Have learners fill in blanks on visuals 10-1, 10-2, 10-3 and 10-4, Paul s Instructions to Youth task cards. Use the Bible answers to guide a discussion of their service to parents and their church. Lesson 11 May 13, 2018 Place figures 11-1 through 11-3 to illustrate God s abundant supply on the woman s behalf. Use figure 11-4 and make the personal need of salvation clear for any learner who may be unsaved. Follow up with visual 11-5, The Invitation teaching picture, in the Final Activity. Be sensitive to any learner who expresses a desire to talk further about being saved. Lesson 12 May 20, 2018 Have learners match visuals 12-1, God s Generosity slips, to visuals 12-2, Your Generosity slips, by cutting all slips apart and placing on table in view of all learners. One learner will choose one slip from God s Generosity, look up the verse and read it aloud. Then, all learners will discuss and decide which word from Your Generosity slips matches the verse just read. Do all slips in the same manner. This will help learners understand they will have contentment and happiness in proportion to their generosity. Demonstrate that God s standard for generosity remains the same in all generations by discussing with them visual 12-3, A Generous Sacrifice teaching picture. Lesson 13 May 27, 2018 Use figures 13-1 through 13-5 to illustrate the Bible story. Use figure 13-1 with paragraph one. Use figure 13-2 with paragraph two. Remove figures 13-1 and Use figures 13-3 and 13-4 with paragraph four. Remove figures 13-3 and Use figure 13-5 with paragraph five.
