THE STEEPLE WILL SHINE THIS WEEK in honor of Lucas Hrehocik s birthday, with love from Dad and Lisa COAT DRIVE: During the next six to eight weeks, WPUCC will be accepting new and gently used coats that can be dropped off at the church office. The coats will be made available at no cost to those in need at West Park UCC s November community meal, warming the bodies and lifting the spirits of those most vulnerable during this challenging time of year. Please take a moment to donate your gently used (or new!) winter coat to this worthy cause. Thank you in advance for your participation! The Board of Outreach & Growth OPEN MIC NIGHT: Do you have a talent you would like to showcase for our church? Our second annual open mic night will be held on Saturday, October 13 at 6pm in Bartter Hall. If you are interested in participating, there are sign-up sheets in the office and the narthex. The Board of Growth and Outreach will provide light snacks and beverages. THINKING AHEAD: Christmas Pageant! We plan to offer a multigenerational (all ages) Christmas Pageant on Sunday, December 16, 2018 during the worship service. PART 2 Join us at 11:30 on October 21 for our monthly adult education forum. We will talk about the financial implications of death and the planning that we can do now to help our families when we transition to our next life. PINK ENVELOPE FOR OCTOBER Neighbors in Need - West Park UCC s October pink envelope is dedicated to Neighbors in Need (NIN), a special mission offering of the UCC that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry. Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC s Justice and Witness Ministries to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct service projects through grants, including childhood hunger. So please give generously to the October pink envelope offering as each of us do our part to make sure no child goes to bed hungry. REGINA BRETT is coming on October 13th at 9 a.m. to Dover Congregational UCC in Westlake, Ohio, located at 2239 Dover Center Road, Westlake, Ohio. Brett, New York Times best-selling author and former writer at The Cleveland Plain Dealer, will speak on Finding Miracles in the Mess and Madness of Life. Cost of the event is $25 and includes the event, Q/A, lunch and book signing. Participation enables the Westside UCC Theological Forum, which includes Avon Lake UCC, First Oberlin, Pilgrim UCC and Dover UCC to bring national faith leaders to the area.
