1 Our Savior Lutheran Church 8001 Northwest 5 th Street Plantation, Florida Mark Abram, Pastor Serving Christ-Serving Others-Changing Lives Twenty-sixth Sunday after Pentecost November 13, 2016 As We Gather As the end of the Church Year draws near, God s Word holds before us the invitation to salvation, the end goal of the story we have been telling since Advent. There is coming a last day of divine judgment or deliverance. Judgment, either eternal separation for all who have rejected God s call to faith in Christ, or deliverance from that judgment for fellow sinners who have already been justified by their Baptism into Christ and faith in Him. There is no room for fear among those who already belong to Christ, even though the threatening perils of our sin and the attacks of the devil may shake our faith and hope. God has come to save us in His Son, born of Mary in Bethlehem God s beloved Son empowered by the Holy Spirit. He is the perfect fulfillment of God s Law on our behalf, the one, spotless sacrifice by whose resurrection and ascension God s love is now ours through faith in Him. 2 Confession and Absolution P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P Let us kneel and confess our sins to God our Father. C Since we are gathered to hear God s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. Apostles' Creed C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, for the countless blessings You so freely bestow on us and all creation. Above all, we give thanks for Your boundless love shown to us when You sent Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into our flesh and laid on Him our sin, giving Him into death that we might not die eternally. Because He is now risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity, all who believe in Him will overcome sin and death and will rise again to new life. If you are in a wheel chair, the servers will come and commune you at your seat. Ushers will then direct the congregation to the altar. Holy Communion is a gift from God. It is the Lord s Table to which He invites us. As we prepare to receive the Sacrament, we might ask ourselves the following questions: Do I realize that I am a sinful human being? Do I understand that our Lord gave His life, His body and blood, for me on the cross that I might be forgiven of my sins and in His resurrection raised me to a new life? Do I realize that in the Lord s Supper He gives me His true body and blood that I might be assured of forgiveness and that my faith is strengthened that I might serve my Lord and through Him serve others? If you are a baptized Christian and share these Biblical truths, please join us in the celebration of the Sacrament. If you have not yet received instruction, please come forward for a blessing, crossing your arms over your chest to indicate you are not receiving the elements. 8 Prayer of Thanksgiving P Let us pray together. C We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You that of Your mercy You would strengthen us through the same in faith toward You and fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. THE CLOSURE OF MINISTRY AT OUR SAVIOR FOR PASTOR MARK ABRAM Brad Heine: On April 3, 2016 we shared together in a service of celebration of a new ministry. It is now time to give thanks for the life we have shared in Christ. It is also time for us to move on to the next chapter of our spiritual journey on which the Lord is leading us. We have found our time together rewarding, and memories of what we have shared will always remain precious and meaningful. Pastor Mark: The LORD is good to all, and His mercy is over all that he has made. All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! (Psalm 145:9-10) I now ask you for a peaceful release from the call to be your pastor, that I may leave with your love and blessing. Brad Heine: We release you from your call and give you leave with our blessings and our prayers. May the grace of our Lord be with you and the people of this church when we are apart from one another. Let us thank God for His blessing and invoke His blessings upon us for the years ahead. 8

9 People: O, God, you have bound us together for a time as pastor and people to work for the advancement of your kingdom in this place. We give you thanks for the ministry which we have shared. We thank you for those who have been joined to this part of Christ s family through Baptism. We thank you for opening our hearts and minds again and again to your Word, and for feeding us abundantly with the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of your Son. Now, we pray, be with him who leaves and with us who stay, and grant that all of us, by drawing nearer to you, may always be close to each other in the communion of saints. NURSERY A nursery, with a qualified attendant, is provided for the care of children three years or younger and is located in the back of the church (Luther Hall) from 9:00-12:00. SUNDAY SCHOOL Classes for children age 3 through 5 th grade are held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Students join their families for the first two songs in the church before teachers take them to class. A SPECIAL INVITATION for everyone to join us in Adult Bible Classes at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room. COFFEE IS SERVED! Coffee fellowship every Sunday 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the Breezeway. White grape juice is found at the center of the Individual Cups for those having that medical need. If you choose the Individual cup when communing at the altar, please hold on to it until the chalice has passed. Please advise an usher if you need to commune in your pew. HOW CAN YOU BECOME A MEMBER? If you have a previous membership in a Lutheran church, you can transfer your membership to Our Savior by contacting the church office. We will gladly contact your previous church for your transfer. You may also join by profession of faith.
