What is it like being part of Vocare? Busy, interesting, get to know new pupils that I didn t know before. What do you like the most about the school? The staff are friendly and I really like the students. What was your favourite subject as a child? Biology What is your favourite subject now? History What s your favourite food? Lasagne Have you always wanted to be a teacher? Yes, always!!!! What makes you smile the most? My little boy Harry. Have you got any plans for the future of Vocare? Yes, I want pupils to be proud to be in Vocare and take part in events such as sports day. What is your favourite film? Harry potter and the prisoner of Azkaban Interview by Katie Ashley Before Christmas, Year 8 were asked to pick a poem and memorise it over Christmas. In class each individual presented their poem to the rest of the class. Each teacher chose two to three contestants to participate in the final. The 11 finalists performed to Mr Alderson and their class. We all worked incredibly hard to memorise the poem so we could represent it to our classes. Everyone was very supportive of each other as, for some people, it was a new and scary experience. After all the contestants had finished, Mr Alderson and a team of teachers had a vote to determine the winner. The winner was Nimisha Arun who won the main prize of a Kindle. Zofia Gorzkiewicz finished second with a 1 point difference! Well done to the rest of the contestants that took part in the competition; Zac Holmes, Lucas Gonzalez Herran, Frankie Maguire, Ffion Roberts, Gretel Bennet, Amy Street, Patryk Podgorski, Maria Erazo Bastidas and Kai Parkinson. By Lucas Gonzalez Herran, Zofia Gorzkiewicz, Amy Street.

Bullying is unwanted and unnecessary behaviour amongst a group of individuals where there is a perceived power imbalance. Bullying can be evident in a variety of different forms; verbal, physical, social or psychological which is intended to cause harm or fear to another individual. If you are or feel like you are being bullied by an individual or group of individuals you have a lot of options within school to ensure you feel safe and supported; tell a friend, your form tutor, head of house, parents or support staff. At All Saints Catholic Academy it is our job to ensure you feel happy and enjoy school, therefore we do not tolerate bullying of any form within our school community. This academic year, as a school we have provided forms with sixth form officers who are there to provide the younger students with support and guidance through all aspects of their school life, particularly with bullying or behaviour issues. In addition to this pupils have participated in; anti-bullying week, PSHE activities and collective worship which have allowed students to understand the meaning and importance of anti-bullying. Make sure you keep an eye out for the anti-bullying competition which starts after the half term on the 22 nd February 2016 and will run for 2 weeks Miss Stringfellow By Luca, Max & Kiegen

Easter Sunday, March Easter is the most important festival in the Christian calendar. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, three days after he was crucified. The Easter story is at the heart of Christianity. Easter Sunday Easter Sunday marks Jesus' resurrection. After Jesus was crucified on the Friday, known as Good Friday, his body was taken down from the cross, and buried in a tomb. The tomb was guarded by Roman soldiers and an enormous stone was put over the entrance, so that no-one could steal the body. On the Sunday, Mary Magdalene, followed later by some of Jesus' disciples, visited the tomb and found that the stone had been moved, and that Jesus' body had gone. Jesus himself was seen that day by Mary and the disciples and for forty days afterwards by many people. His followers realised that God had raised Jesus from the dead. The week leading up to Easter is called Holy Week. Holy Week Palm Sunday This is the Sunday before Easter Day. It is the first day of Holy Week and celebrates Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem riding on a donkey. Crowds of people came out of the city to greet him, throwing down palm branches on the road. Anglican and Roman Catholic churches give out small crosses made from palm leaves, as a reminder of Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem and his death on the cross. Some Christians keep these in their homes all year as a symbol of their faith. Maundy Thursday This is the Thursday before Easter Day

Last Supper: On Maundy Thursday Christians remember when Jesus ate the Passover meal with his disciples, breaking bread and drinking wine, which is now known as the Last Supper. Many Christians remember this by sharing bread and wine together in a service called Holy Communion. It is a reminder that Jesus sacrificed his life for mankind. At this meal Jesus told his followers that they should love and serve one another. He demonstrated this by washing the feet of the disciples - something a servant would normally do. You can read this story in the Bible in John Ch.13v1-15 The word maundy comes from the command (mandate) given by Jesus at the Last Supper, that we should love one another. Roman Catholic church services include a ceremony in which the priest washes the feet of 12 people to commemorate Jesus' washing the feet of his disciples. Good Friday Good Friday is the Friday before Easter Sunday. It commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. Good Friday is a day of mourning in church. During special Good Friday services Christians remember Jesus' suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith. The main service on Good Friday takes place between midday and 3pm. In many churches it takes the form of a meditation based on the seven last words of Jesus on the cross, with hymns, prayers, and short sermons. By Ashley Neale in V-LJN

The Chaplaincy Team members from Vocare are running a quiz Day to raise money for Water Aid on Monday 22 nd February. This will only be for our house and the questions will be about water and flooding. We have chosen Water Aid as our charity because they are becoming really successful during this, the Year of Mercy. They work in many places all around the world to bring safer water to poor communities and have also saved many lives due to their work. It is just 1 to enter. Every day, around 900 children under-five die from diarrhea diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. Your support will enable parents to protect their children by giving them access to clean, safe water and the chance to build proper toilets and by teaching members of the community about the best ways to stop the spread of diarrhea, parents can pass their learnings on from generation to generation. Congratulations to Max Manfredi, who has been working really hard on his Accelerated Reader book quizzes. He achieved 100% 10 times in a row! Max was awarded a certificate and a book as a prize for all his hard work. Well done Max, keep it up!

Find the words from the list: Revising is important and will benefit you. Although it may not seem important to you, revising is and it determines what you can do when you leave school, whether that will be going to college, sixth form or an apprenticeship. Why revise? Simple, so you can achieve your full potential at school in your GCSEs so when you leave school it widens your options up. Then that will lead to getting a good job and being successful. How long to spend revising? For year 11, I would say around 2 hours a night at least. Do it in 30 minute chunks and have a break in between. On the weekend I would advise to spend around 3-4 hours revising. For year 10, I would advise to complete all homework set and to spend around hours revising a day. The reason being is so you don't have so much revision to do in year 11 and so you are better prepared for your exams. Always remember to leave time for things you enjoy doing, whether that's playing a sport, going to the cinemas with friends or just relaxing at home. I wish you the very best of luck Year 11 with your exams, you can do it! Panni Darzanos

Why is taking part in sports day important? Great Britain provides us with all sorts of opportunities to introduce young people to new and exciting sports. By giving more children the opportunity to try a wider variety of sports we will be able to increase participation levels, widen the talent pool and help young people lead a healthier, more active lifestyle. Sport is important for people because you will have a healthier body. Exercise and sports participation has long been established as an important factor in reducing the risk of many physical problems such as cardiovascular disease and obesity. Sport has many physical benefits, but there are also many other benefits that taking part in sport can provide, this makes sport an important part of each individual s life. Schools, colleges and Universities have the opportunity to inspire and help young people get active and participate in sport. Sport can be a powerful tool for educational establishments to use. The Youth Sport Trust says sport can have a positive impact on young people in areas such as attendance and behaviour. Taking part in sporting activities can be very rewarding. The Youth Sport Trust says Physical Education can be used to raise the self-esteem of young people and give them confidence. There is a fantastic opportunity with the international sporting events. This opportunity should be used to engage young people in fun and exciting sporting activities, to help them develop their values. Sport events are a good thing for young teenagers who like sport. Sport is fun, exciting, challenging and rewarding. This year we can t wait to get involved in sports day and as a team finish in first place! By Julia Gorczynska Dearest Heavenly Father, I want to thank you for the precious gift of love you have given to the world and to me. Thank you for blessing me every day with this love and the power and strength that I get from you every single day. To keep up to date with everything happening in Vocare, visit the school website at: uk/ Please continue to let me feel your comforting love in my life and Lord I give myself over to you to perfect in me this gift of love that I may be able to express it and share it with others. Lord some people are harder to love than others but I want to be like your Son Jesus so please continue the work you are doing in my heart so my heart will be like yours. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
