Gail and I have had the honor and FUN of being with our Church family now for 5 years. Yikes! Like I said where does the time go? By the time this Carillon is being read; we will have already celebrated Thanksgiving, our Community TG Service, and decorating the Church with Advent beginning November 27 th. I m not ready for the snow. Are you? The older I get the less prepared I am to deal with the white flakes, cold, and ice! But as a kid, I could hardly wait for the snow to arrive. The snow was a sign that the king of kid holidays was just around the corner: Merry Christmas! My Mom, brothers, and I would ride up to Washington (our town) on the trolley. Yes, we had a trolley that went over the rails complete with a glass payment box. One could hear the clanging of the wheels over the tracks. It was especially festive after dark. The town was decorated with garland running from one side of the street to the other. Red, green, blue, and white lights decorated the garland as well as the wreaths. It made shopping a real wonderland for a kid of 6 or 7. G.C. Murphy& Co. was the local 5+10 store complete with everything from a small pet section to a large toy town in the basement. Glass bins held the latest treats like pretzels and potato chips, penny candy of all sorts and flavors, and fine jewelry. My plan this Christmas was to shop for a piece of fine jewelry for my Mom, but first I wanted to check out the small animal section; especially the parakeets. After all, she might like a bird or hamster. I arrived at the sales counter and was able to get someone to help me. The birds were jumping all around the cage and I spotted a bright yellow parakeet singing away and bouncing every which way. Before I knew what I was doing; I reached into the cage to grab the bird. Things got pretty foggy for me after that. But as I heard the sales lady scream; I noticed that the bird I was interested in buying was now flying around the store. It looked like a small B-52 with propellers roaring and dive bombing as it flew up and down and back and forth. I think it was singing, but I m not sure. I didn t have to be told that it was time to leave. My heart was sinking as I heard the intercom call go out for the manager to come to the small animal area for customer assistance! No help was needed. I was gone. This Christmas, 1956, was the year I ended up shopping for fine jewelry at the local drug store. Looking back, I can laugh about it now. Time has a way of doing that for us. Christmas is outside of time. It is a timeless moment when God took all of our ups and downs, hurts and joys, successes and failures and gave us the gift of Jesus. The offering of new life. Grace and Peace, Pastor Gary

The Carillon Page 2 Trustee Notes Hannah Harrington We would like to thank everyone that has been diligently assisting the Trustees on assuring the safety and security of our Church Building along with the demands of keeping the Church clean and organized after several events and functions the past few months. We are delighted that Rick Staples has decided to help the Trustees in the areas of his expertise. Recently our Church rugs were professionally cleaned. It s amazing how a little shampoo & conditioning can bring out the colors more. You will notice that the ramp area continues to receive fresh paint and we are hoping it will be finalized in the next month or two. In addition, we are looking into replacing the Sanctuary and Chapel light bulbs, checking into more security for the side and back doors and waiting on quotes for either refurbishing or fixing some of the Church Stain Glass windows. December and January will be very busy months as we end 2016 and begin 2017 financial statements and proposed budgets. You will notice on Page 11 of this Carillon there will be an Annual Business Meeting January 25th at 7pm. We are hoping all members can attend the Annual Business Meeting as our Quarterly Meetings the past year was not well attended. Please make every effort in prioritizing your schedule so you are able to attend. We will be reviewing old and new business, getting ready for the New Year by reviewing the proposed church budget items. Your Trustees, Betty Poitras Hannah Harrington

The Carillon Page 3 Christian Education Notes Amy Caswell The board of Christian Education has had a busy fall season; In September we hosted a Beth Moore simulcast E-Women s conference and approximately 30 women from churches in NH attended the all-day conference. In October we once again had Trunk or Treat in the church parking lot; approximately 80 kids were given treats with bible verses attached, along with information regarding our Sunday school program. They were also given bookmarks. Many thanks to our members and friends who took part in this activity. In November we held our 4 th annual Thanksgiving dinner for our One Heart families and those in need in our own congregation; and served approximately 80 families. Many thanks to everyone who donated food cooked food, helped set up, serve or clean up. Many hands do in fact make light work. Looking ahead, we will be planning a day after the Christmas season is over to clean and organizing our kitchen. Mae Bilodeau and Alice Lancaster will be taking on this task. Also, we have many books in our church library and the bookshelves are overflowing therefore we are looking into purchasing 2 more bookcases and will be reorganizing the library as well. Stay tuned for further details. Your Board of Christian Education Amy Caswell Carlene Keniston Mae Bilodeau Sue Jancetic

The Carillon Page 4 Christian In Action Notes Sue Jancetic The Christians In Action (CIA) Sunday School and the Nursery kids have been having lots of fun and learning this school year! We wound up our Summer Session which had covered topics: "We are like jars of clay", "The Story of David", "Jacob's Ladder", and a couple of weeks on "I am important to God- He knows me, He loves me, He cares for me, and He is with me everywhere!" including a fun skit about the possible prayers a pilot, an attendant, an airline mechanic, a TSA worker, and some Missionaries boarding a plane may have one day at the airport while trying to spread God's Word and live shining His light! Then we burst right into this school year's topics! We have been excited in our study through the "Gospel Light, Kids Time - God's Kids Grow" material. We've created songs, made crafts, done activities, played games, and acted out scenes of our lessons. Some examples have been: "Jesus Brings the Joy", "Keith Greene Music for God, "Isaac's Peace and Patience with King Abimelech paid off", a fun skit set in a bookshop in 1526 "William Tyndale who spoke 7 languages has translated the first bible edition in English - copies for sale (and the authorities are curious)!", "The Patience Project and how God can work through us", and paraphrasing, "O God, we give Thanks about Your Good Works Psalm 75:1". We are working ongoing on collects monies for One Heart Mission and also this year Posters to share with the Church Family. We are now into our Advent Season and Christmas Story lessons which we look forward to all year long! The children will be part of two classroom mission projects- one reaching out with a happy Christmas well wishing to residents of local Nursing Homes and one through Samaritan's Purse giving to others in need. Each of our CIA children will also get a special treat during our classroom celebration! Looking forward to the next few months we will have so much fun! Lessons include "Elisha and Gehazi Travel to Shunem and Elisha Shows Kindness", "Grace Chang's work in China", "Becoming part of Go's family", "Jesus Treats the Widows Fairly", "Charles Tindley's better Soup Kitchen" and more! Join us Kids! As we have been having a steady group of children in the Nursery (YAY) they are still welcome to share in the crafts, activities and lessons as before, but we are also working on getting them their own fun curriculum just for their age group starting in December! It's very exciting!

The Carillon Page 5 Diaconate Notes Richard Soucier Members list and various mailings have been corrected and arranged in a more manageable format thanks to Hannah and her expertise and Alys and her memory. We still need to pursue the members who have served in the Military. We have a preliminary list but would like to ensure all individuals that have or are currently serving the Military are accounted for in our list. Our thanks goes out to Jason Caswell and Joe Keniston for repairing the switch that turns the sound system on and off. This saved the Church a good sum of money and the aggravation that went into getting the system up and running. We will continue to pursue a new handheld microphone to replace the one that is currently broken. We are still looking into recording the Sunday Services to send or deliver a DVD to our Church members that are shut in. We continue to help members with their financial needs and will continue as long as funds are made available. Our Communion Offering supports these ministry. We continue to work with the Pastor to advance our various church services to people continue to see us as a Church Family as Church is more than just going to a building and function, its about our Great Lord and serving him. We need to bring the message of our Lord to the Community, anyone that will listen and we will succeed with God leading us. The Diaconate are available if anyone has an issues positive or negative that may need attention. Your Diaconate, Richard Soucier-Chair Alys Martinson Barbara Denault Jerry Davis Carl DeLuca Irene Lewis

The Carillon Page 6 Pastoral Search Committee Richard Soucier The search committee continues to meet monthly or more frequently, if needed. We also have been in contact with the ABC VT/NH representative to keep us updated and on track with new Pastoral Profiles to review. It s been a slow and meticulous but very important process to find the right Pastor for us. Prayer is very important for the processing of the information given to us on any prospective candidate. We have vetted through several Pastoral Profiles and had an interview with one prospect but we continue to move forward looking for the one most fitted to serve this Church family. We do believe God has chosen one for us and we are patiently waiting for God s timing to come. Please continue to pray for our Church and the Pastoral Search Committee. This report is a bit repetitive from the last one but the process takes time, prayer and patience. We will find the Pastor God leads us towards, in his time. Respectively submitted the Search Committee: Richard Soucier Barbara Denault Hannah Harrington Carlene Keniston Betty Poitras Sue Jancetic Jerry Davis

The Carillon Page 7 Mission News & Notes Alys Martinson, Susan Jancetic The World Mission offering has now concluded. Our Church family has raised an amazing $ Thanks to all of you who were very generous in giving. Our Church also participated in the White Cross Ministry of American Baptist Women. For those of you who might not know what the White Cross Ministry is or how it came about: During World War I, many church women assisted the American Red Cross by providing surgical dressings, bandages, and other medical supplies for U.S. service personnel. In 1919, following the end of the war, two American Baptist women from Cleveland, Ohio organized the White Cross Service League, channeling the war effort into support for Baptist mission. White Cross has been embraced by local churches throughout the United States by providing necessary items for various missionaries who make their request through the American Baptist Churches like ours. Although our Church currently does not have a Women s Ministry like we have had in the past we were still able to raise the monies for this ministry through the organization of our Christian Education. This year the focus was on the Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries located in Lexington Massachusetts. Our Church sent a donation in the amount of $150 for their cause. It has been acknowledged by their organization that the donation helped the needs of refugee families providing clothing and other necessary items, as they come into their state.

The Carillon Page 11 Up Coming Meetings & Opportunities Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him, he refreshes the spirit of his masters. Proverbs 25:13 Our Annual Business Meeting It s that time of year again when we as the Church Body come together to make very important Church decisions, review old and new business, and review proposed budget to finalize our financial situation for the upcoming year. As a member, your voice and attendance is crucial to the success of doing the work the Lord has called you to towards. Please save the date and mark your calendars now as our Annual Business Meeting will be held January 25th at 7pm. Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Scholarship Have you or a member of your church considered seminary, but the cost seems too heavy of a burden to bear? Consider applying to the Partnership Program Full-Tuition Scholarship at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary! Beyond covering a student s full tuition, the Partnership Program provides a unique opportunity for biblical stewardship training and an extremely valuable skillset in partnership development. Program participants team up with their local church and a network of prayer and financial partners to create a support system that extends beyond seminary into the next phase of ministry. Recent graduate Bobby Ross shared his experience how this scholarship made it possible for him and his family to serve the local church immediately upon graduation. Now Pastor of Dunstable Evangelical Congregational Church, Bobby shares that: "The Partnership Program actually enabled us to graduate debt-free and pursue this small town New England church." Interested in learning more? Recommend someone (or yourself) to the Partnership Program or request a phone call or to learn more! We look forward to exploring this option and your calling to pursue theological education through Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. 12 The Carillon Page 12 Greetings Sentinel friends, Up Coming Opportunities (Cont.) Letter from Camp Sentinel As we reflect on Thanksgiving and what it means, I am drawn to the bird feeder outside my window. Traci and I started feeding sunflower seeds to our birds a little early this year because we are excited to have the change of seasons upon us. As I watch these birds I am reminded of God s question in Matthew 6:26, Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they? How valuable do we feel in the presence of our Heavenly Father? During this season, my prayer is that our considerations of thanks are bathed in the knowledge of how valuable we are to God. Sentinel is a special place for this kind of reflection. This past summer over 700 campers came through the camp program, an 11 year increase for Boys and Girls overnight camp. Campers learned the importance of connection with God. Through the guidance of dedicated staff and volunteers over 150 campers dedicated their lives to God, many for the first time. Sentinel is a Mission First ministry as we strive to provide an overnight camp experience to all families despite financial challenge. Sentinel Lodge is open year round for churches, schools and groups to come together and experience sweet fellowship in the stillness of the outdoors. The Wixson Ministry Retreat opened this past June offering a year round place for pastors, missionaries and lay people who are directly involved in ministry, along with their household families for a donation. Sentinel is a camp in growth, both spiritually and physically as we are outgrowing the boys unit. As we look ahead, we have plans to build an additional cabin in the boys unit which cost $14,000. With our summer weeks filling to capacity, a new boy s cabin would allow us to house 56 additional campers each summer. Would you consider joining with Camp Sentinel by giving toward this upcoming project to help us to reach more people with the message of the Gospel? To date, $4270 has been raised! We are excited for what the 68 th summer season holds as we explore the All-Surpassing POW- ER of God and what it looks like to store up this POWER in humble earthenware jars of clay. Each day we will unpack a different aspect of how we are to live for God by standing for TRUTH, shining light out of darkness, storing up this treasure in jars of clay, and His life at work within us: We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 2 Corinthians 4:7. Thank you for standing in prayer and ministry partnership with us. See you on the Mountaintop! Rev. Kevin Van Brunt Executive Director, Sentinel Ministries

The Carillon Page 13 Women s Bible Study All Women are Welcome Each Saturday at 10am. In December, we will be starting Patriarchs: Encountering the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - by Beth Moore We will be diving into Genesis with personal studies 5 days a week, which will allow us to discover God's pursuit of a relationship with man, and marvel as His plan to bless all people. This study is full of twists and turns, ruin and redemption, revelation and mystery. We will be exploring concepts such as blessing, covenant, and promise, and the influence each has on a New Testament believer s life in todays world. We will plunge into the heart of Genesis, right into God s remarkable pursuit, of relationship and to the unfolding of His earthly plan: that through one nation and ultimately, one man all people on earth will be blessed. Adult Advent Bible Study All are Welcome!! Join us Sundays at 9:10-9:45 am in Pastor Andy s office. 4 Week Advent Series. Description: No other time of the year captures our imagination as much as Christmas: God coming into the world on a dark winter s night; a baby s cry that would change the course of human history; the heavens bursting into song; the certain hope that God will have the last word over our brokenness. This season fills our hearts with the wonder that anything is possible. This year, rediscover the true wonder of Christmas by sharing the love of Christ with others. Each chapter centers on one element of the Christmas story, looking to the Christmas story and the stories of real people today to offer inspiration and ideas for reflecting the light of Jesus at Christmas and throughout the year.

The Carillon Page 14 Merry Christmas Our Church will be kicking off on the 1st Day of Advent, November 27, 2016, the Campaign It s Okay, Wish Me a Merry Christmas by handing out buttons to all our congregation members. This campaign is to reach individuals by proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and the real meaning of Christmas. We should not yield to the ways of the world. Please read the below article from the Wish Me A Merry Christmas Campaign. Wish Me A Merry Christmas - The Attack on Christmas Although the liberal media and even some churches are leading the charge against Christmas, they are not the main force behind the attack on Christmas. When the angel came to announce our Lord s birth, he said, For behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10-11). This angel was stating that the spiritual atmosphere of the whole planet was about to be transformed. The good news was that the human race was about to be redeemed from the forces of darkness by the Savior. It is these same forces of darkness that are attempting to silence the good news today. We are organizing a campaign that stands up to the powers and principalities, the rulers of the darkness of this age (Eph 6:12), that lovingly announces the Light of the World through the wishing of Merry Christmas again. To wish someone a Merry Christmas is to proclaim the good news of great joy that will be for all people. It is to announce that there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (v.11). To tell someone they have a Savior is indeed good news! However, if they do not know of their need for a savior, it may be offensive. This is why we find people being offended by the kind gesture of wishing them a Merry Christmas. This is also the exact reason why we must continue to unashamedly wish people a Merry Christmas. In doing so, we are telling them that there is good news and that the God of the universe has put into motion a wonderful plan to offer them salvation. The statement Merry Christmas is indeed nothing less than the first step in opening a door to offer someone salvation. As Paul says, I am not ashamed of the gospel [good news], for it is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16). The Message says it like this, It's news I'm most proud to proclaim, this extraordinary Message of God's powerful plan to rescue everyone who trusts him. universe has put into motion a wonderful plan to offer them salvation. The Message says it like this, It's news I'm most proud to proclaim, this extraordinary Message of God's powerful plan to rescue everyone who trusts him. To wear a button that says, It s OK, Wish Me a Merry Christmas is to identify yourself as someone who has heard and received the good news. It tells people you are not just shopping for a winter festival, but what you are buying is celebrating your Lord s birth. It says that you are in need of the Savior whose birth the angels announced so long ago. It gives the other person the opportunity to proclaim to you the good news of great joy that will be for all people, and say "Merry Christmas." As the cycle of wishing and being wished a Merry Christmas begins, the forces of darkness in our nation will be affected. Light will be proclaimed. Hope will be announced, and the spiritual atmosphere will be changed
