3 Orientation and Introduction THE BEATITUDES Russell J. Benoit, Th.D., Ccc, Instructor I. COURSE DESCRIPTION This is a study of THE BEATITUDES of Jesus as they appear in Matthew Chapter in the Sermon of the Mount. We will analyze each statement of the Beatitudes and search out its abiding principles and apply them to our own lives as twentieth century Christians. II. COURSE OBJECTIVES This course aims to: A. Increase our understanding of THE BEATITUDES and their message from Jesus. B. Examine the permanent principles in each of these remarkable sayings of Our Lord. C. Apply / these principles to our lives today and explore ways to use them daily. D. Encourage a further study and appreciation of the Bible as God's Word to encourage, enhance, and instruct all Christians. III. SUGGESTED TOOLS OF STUDY A. The Holy Bible - KJV (Preferably) Greek/Hebrew B. One other version of the student's choosing. C. This Study Guide D. Other books pertaining to The Beatitudes 3
4 IV. SUGGESTED STUDY HABITS A. Read through Matthew 5-7 prayerfully before the course begins. Endeavor to absorb the contents and see the setting of The Beatitudes within the Sermon on the Mount. B. Study the Course Syllabus - Workbook as much as possible before the course ends. C. Do Not miss a single class session unless absolutely necessary. D. Take many notes. Note: It will help if you share notes with a study partner at the end of each class session. V. CLASSROOM METHODOLOGY A. Lecture followed by class discussion. B. 7 THE BEATITUDES PRE-CLASS QUESTIONNAIRE** Instruction: This seminar is designed to lead the student into a study Of the Beatitudes of Jesus in order that he or she might Derive a full understanding or the permanent principles Of faith contained in them and apply them to his or her Own life. Initiation: Each participant most completes the BEATITUDES UNDERSTANDING QUESTIONNAIRE. The Instructor calculates the Rating of each student and Average them to obtain a group rating. This will be The seminar Pre-Text. The results will be the groups Understanding of the overall Beatitudes. Note: the Goal of this seminar is to increase our knowledge of the Beatitudes of Jesus. Group: On the 1 st Lecture The Class will be broken up into 4 Different Groups or less, depending on the size of the Class. Instructor will assign certain BEATITUDES to each group. Note: Class participation is a must in order to pass this course. Study will be done as a group, but final examination Must be turned in individually. In An Effort To Roll Money Back Into Your Pocket 1. If All Tuitions is Paid Up: The Winners Will receive a $ Bonus to be split among themselves. 2. If All Tuitions is Not Paid Up: The Bonus will be awarded and split between the ones that Paid Up. 3. If Everyone's Tuitions is Not Paid Up: The Bonus will be forfeited And we will try again the next class. (ALL Group Evaluations will be due at the end of the second Lecture) 7
