FR.FRANK REPORTS... Volume 3 Issue 4 July 2018 In 2018 Priests for Life Celebrates Fr. Frank Pavone s 30th Anniversary of Ordination and 25th Anniversary as National Director of Priests for Life Priests for Life TV (EndAbortion.TV) continues to evolve Something new is happening at Priests for Life TV. Since Priests for Life s online television channel launched March 16, daily programming is attracting an average of 1,500 viewers a day. Every weekday, viewers tune in to see talks given by Father Frank Pavone and other Pastoral Team members around the country; pro-life music videos; highlights of past projects, like the 2010 Freedom Rides, and excerpts from Priests for Life s shows on EWTN. Alveda King and Father Frank Pavone both onscreen. In May, for the first time Father Frank and Alveda King, director of Civil Rights for the Unborn for Priests for Life, were able to chat onscreen, even though he was in PFL headquarters in Titusville, Florida, and she was home in Atlanta, Georgia. We can do what the networks do, Father Frank said. For John in the audio/video/graphic design department, there was nothing magical in the process. Using the equipment already available in Priests for Life s state-of-the-art television studio, John said, we were able to pull in the guest Alveda on Skype. While it was perhaps not magical to John, he conceded that we ve been able to cross some milestones so it s moving along. We have some more milestones to cross. The TV studio is equipped with five cameras, computers and Macs equipped with sophisticated editing software, studio lighting, a green screen, a teleprompter and space enough to create a variety of backgrounds. The studio is also equipped with a monitor that allows Father Frank and TV 1

2 news hosts to see each other. Father Frank has been interviewed on Newsmax TV and One America News from the new studio, and interviews have been recorded for Priests for Life s Defending Life and The Catholic View for Women, both on EWTN. To watch PFL TV, go to Eucharistic Processions for Life As Priests for Life has pointed out for decades, the same four words Jesus uses to give life to the world are used by those who want to bring death by abortion: This is my body. Some claim their body to do whatever they want; Jesus gives his body in self-sacrificing love. Fr. Stephen Imbarrato at a Eucharistic Procession to Planned Parenthood. The pro-life commitment of the Church is Eucharistic, because the Eucharist is the sacrament of life and the sacrifice that destroys death. It is therefore highly appropriate that as the People of God go to the places where children are killed by abortion to pray, they also at times bring the Blessed Sacrament. The dynamic of death is confronted by the dynamic of life and love; the selfassertion of choice is contradicted by the self-immolation of the Lamb of God; the dismemberment of the bodies of children is contrasted with the remembrance of the Body of Christ. At the beginning of Priests for Life, Fr. Frank Pavone was invited by Bishop James Sullivan of Fargo, North Dakota to participate in a Eucharistic Procession for Life, where the Blessed Sacrament was brought to the onlyremaining killing center in the state. After that experience, Fr. Frank wrote to all the bishops recommending the same practice. Since then, Fr. Frank and other priests, including some bishops, have undertaken Eucharistic processions to nearby abortion mills. Father Stephen Imbarrato began celebrating Eucharistic Processions for Life 10 years ago in July 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fr. Stephen at the time was Director of Project Defending Life where twice a week he would celebrate Mass in the Holy Innocents Chapel next to Planned Parenthood. After Mass dozens of faithful pro-lifers would process across the side street with the Blessed Sacrament and prayer the Rosary before processing back for Benediction. Over the next several years many priests of the area led Eucharistic Processions for Life including Archbishop Michael Sheehan of Santa Fe.

Christ conquered death by shedding His innocent precious blood on Calvary. Abortion facilities are at once modern day Calvaries where today s most innocent blood is being shed. The paradox is that these killing centers are also the gates of hell where Satan sacrifices our little brothers and sisters in the womb, the ultimate manifestation of the culture of death. It makes perfect sense that we process with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament to abortion facilities in our desire to end pre-born child killing; that Jesus conquer the culture of death that permeates our country and world. Upon joining Priests for Life, Fr Stephen continued to lead Eucharistic Processions for Life not only in Albuquerque, but also across the country in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Massachusetts. For more information about Eucharistic Processions for Life and how to schedule one in your parish, visit Priests for Life Statement on Irish Referendum Fr. Frank Pavone released the following statement on behalf of Priests for Life upon the conclusion of the May 25th referendum in Ireland taking away protection from the unborn: The referendum in Ireland yesterday took away protection from children in the womb. Those who voted to remove that protection, which was given by the 8th Amendment to the Irish Constitution, have made a grave mistake. The referendum itself, of course, is morally illicit. No referendum can remove fundamental rights. We cannot vote as a society to approve slavery, terrorism, or child abuse. Neither does any vote on abortion make it permissible. A nation may fail to recognize the child s rights, but it cannot remove them. The tears of joy that some pro-abortion fanatics have today are a foreshadowing of the tears of grief that will flood the Irish cities and countryside as mothers abort their children. They will find, as we have found in America, that abortion solves no problems, but only creates new ones. Hear for yourselves the voices of these moms, dads and families of our Silent No More Campaign at AbortionTestimonies.com. The words of St. John Paul II should echo today across Ireland and the world. Writing in Evangelium Vitae (n. 20) about what happens when a state legalizes abortion, he declared, The State is no longer the common home where all can live together on the basis of principles of fundamental equality, but is transformed into a tyrant State, which arrogates to itself the right to dispose of the life of the weakest and most defenceless members... The appearance of the strictest 3

4 respect for legality is maintained, at least when the laws permitting abortion are the result of a ballot in accordance with what are generally seen as the rules of democracy. Really, what we have here is only the tragic caricature of legality; the democratic ideal, which is only truly such when it acknowledges and safeguards the dignity of every human person, is betrayed in its very foundations When this happens, the process leading to the breakdown of a genuinely human co-existence and the disintegration of the State itself has already begun... This is the death of true freedom. Because this is the case, legislators in Ireland should refuse to pass any measure permitting child-killing, and pro-life citizens should continue to rise up to resist such legislative action and continue to educate their fellow citizens that abortion is nothing other than violence. Priests for Life will continue to assist the pro-life movement in Ireland and worldwide to end this holocaust and to heal the wounded. Campaign for Life and Path to Peace Foundation Galas Bob Lalonde, Coordinator of International Activities for Priests for Life, and Michele Velasco, Priests for Life Associate were pleased to participate in the Susan B. Anthony List Gala on May 22 in Washington, DC featuring President Trump and honoring Kellyanne Conway with the Distinguished Leadership Award. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others were recognized for their heroic work on behalf of the unborn. Bob also represented Priests for Life at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations Path to Peace Foundation Gala on May 23 in New York. The Santa Marta Group, an international alliance of religious leaders and police chiefs working with religious sisters and civil society to eliminate human trafficking and modern slavery, was honored at the dinner. The Group was represented by Cardinal Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, England and Kevin Hyland the UK s first Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner. Bob Lalonde, second from left, with, from left, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Kevin Hyland and Cardinal Vincent Nichols. Day-long event in Delaware urges Catholics to engage in the public square By Father Denis Wilde, OSA Three days before the Pennsylvania primary, I was a speaker at a Faith & Freedom Coalition Delaware event called Rekindle the Fire. About 80 people from Delaware and Pennsylvania gathered at the beautiful Sacred Heart Oratory in Wilmington to be inspired by a variety of speakers. Monsignor Charles Pope, a popular blogger and pastor of Holy Comforter

St. Cyprian Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., incited the audience to get beyond the cultural aspects of important issues to see the spiritual components. John Horvat II, vice president of Tradition, Family and Property, spoke on reclaiming the culture. I centered my talk on the public square and I used Phoenix Bishop Thomas Olmsted s treatise on Catholics in the public square; Father Frank Pavone s pamphlet on his book Abolishing Abortion and the U.S. Bishops Living the Gospel of Life to drive home the importance of Catholics putting their faith into action, in the political arena and elsewhere. I hit hard at the urgency of this year s election, beginning with the determining primaries. Everyone s vote is needed in rolling back evil and saving threatened lives. Protecting the babies requires a solid pro-life majority in House and a filibuster-proof Senate. Churches and individuals need to learn and galvanize others to promote candidates who will protect our real future. The day also included the rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. I provided the music for a closing Mass and Monsignor Pope was the homilist. Priests for Life Resource Department is a model of efficiency Less than a year after being unloaded from a tractor-trailer, Priests for Life s Resource Department rivals the biggest internet companies fulfillment centers. When Priests for Life moved from Staten Island, N.Y., to Titusville, FL., in September 2017, the New Yorkers staffing Resources were unable, for family reasons, to make the move. But two new hires, Dolores and Jim, have the huge new warehouse stocked and organized and are turning out orders in a day two at the most. We take orders a variety of ways, Dolores explained. Online store, mini-catalogs, newsletters, and by phone. Our turnover is one to two days to ship orders out. We mainly ship ground USPS to save money, but if a customer wants an order shipped overnight, they can pay to have it shipped. Pro-lifers all over the country order books, brochures, pamphlets, CDs, DVDs and more to help them in their own pro-life work. A first-class relic of St. John Paul II is popular all over, but especially in the Philippines. One of our volunteers, Hope Dolores and Jim constantly update and track inventory of the resource room, which is arranged by category pro-life products, office supplies, overstock boxes, and packing materials. They also keep the machinery in shape, including the Pitney Bowes USPS postage machine, printers, paper 5

straightener, paper folder, and envelope slicer. Father Frank Pavone, Janet Morana, Alveda King, Kevin Burke, Bryan Kemper and Anthony DeStefano all have books on the shelves, and these are popular items, too. It s not unheard of for Dolores and Jim to be mailing out more than 100 books in a day. Father Frank s Proclaiming the Message of Life and Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day are big sellers, and In the Palm of His Hand, a compilation of prayers a book of prayers he wrote Volunteers are treasured in the Resource Department and more are always welcome. They help us to be efficient, Dolores said, and they also pray for us. They are an important part of our mission. Public Outreach Reports In the aftermath of Ireland s repealing of the 8th amendment, which protected both mother and child equally under the law, Priests for Life s Public Outreach and Correspondence has had a lot of shocked reactions from supporters around the world. Many were hoping that Ireland s Catholicism would win the day and the scourge of abortion would be held back. It wasn t. What s worse were reactions of Ireland s youth, celebrating the repeal on countless videos on social media. For American pro-life activists who have seen up-close the damage of abortion in our families for the last 45 years, these women s reactions were perplexing and upsetting. Our female and male casualties of abortion have been living with PTSD, suicide, depression, eating disorders, substance abuses, and all the behaviors associated with deep abiding trauma. Somehow the young generation of Irish have been deceived into believing the false narrative that abortion will set them free. And so Priests for Life is committed to continue working harder than ever to fight back against the lies that pervade the culture of the day. Two countries, two states in two weeks! By Janet Morana, Executive Director, Priests for Life; Co-Founder, Silent No More Awareness Campaign It s no secret that I travel a lot, and sometimes I only have enough time between trips to unpack and repack. But when I left home on a recent journey, I had to pack for two weeks and multiple climates. My trip started out in Ottawa, where I represented the Silent No More Awareness Campaign along with National Coordinator Angelina Steenstra at the annual March for Life in the Canadian capital. 6

FR. FRANK REPORTS... Every year, right after the march, the women and men of Silent No More give their testimony on the steps of Parliament Hill, and Angelina and I give remarks. This year, for the first time, we also had a speaker at the rally preceding the march. Dale Barr, regional coordinator in Cornwall, Ontario, did an outstanding job. EWTN interviewed Angelina and I, and we both spoke briefly at that night s Rose Dinner. The next leg of my journey brought me back to Staten Island, where I was able to spend Mother s Day with my daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren Lily and Lucas. But then it was back to the airport, this time for an overnight flight to Rome. I had meetings with some high-level Vatican officials, including Dr. Flaminia Giovanelli, undersecretary of the Pontifical Council on Integral Human Development, and Monsignor Graham Bell of the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization, and had a chance to visit some old friends, Cardinal Renato Martino and EWTN s Joan Lewis. The co-hosts of The Catholic View for Women were interviewed by Jim and Then I did something I ve never done before. I Joy Pinto for their EWTN show. addressed the March for Life IN ITALIAN. I was a French major in my undergrad days but Italian was new for me. I asked the Holy Spirit for help! The final leg of the journey brought me to EWTN in Alabama, where I taped 13 episodes for The Catholic View for Women with my co-hosts Teresa Tomeo and Elena Rodriguez. We also were interviewed for At Home with Jim and Joy and I taped an episode of Bookmark with Doug Keck that focused on my latest book, Shockwaves: Abortion s Wider Circle of Victims. I was very grateful for all the opportunities this trip presented, but I was very happy to get home to Florida. Janet at the Rome March for Life. Janet at the Canada March for Life. 7
